1.
Is it true or false that a driver gets 3 months off when this happens?
A driver can have as little or as much time off as he needs. It will need to be covered by a doctors cert though. London Underground offers a counseling scheme which is excellent. Of course it can affect people in different ways. I know one guy who never drove a train again.
 2. I am a tube driver on the Central Line in London. About 4 months ago some young lad jumped under the train I was driving at Tottenham Court Road station. He never made it. I feel sorry for his family but I never knew his name or why he did what he did. I was taken away from the scene almost immediately while the emergency services did their bit. It is however, an occupational hazard in my job, but a loss of life is still a huge loss. Celebrity or not.
 3. I,m the bassist and main backing vox. I am also the de facto musical director. If anyone wants to know a chord sequence etc they always ask me. I only load my own stuff in and out, the singer takes care of all the PA stuff. I sometimes help the drummer carry his stuff to his car if he wants to get away sharpish.
 4. I know these things are a bit old hat with most recordings done on computers or tablets. But are there still the dedicated all in one units like the old Boss BR 800 in my loft? And what are the recommended models these days?
 5. I play the harmonica on a few numbers with the band. Its not really unusual though.
 6. There are two versions of Radio Free Europe. The first was recorded for Hibtone records and the second for the debut album 'Murmur' Although the band hated it at the time, they still prefer the first version which I find a bit muddy. While I prefer the second more punchy version. The 1st version is on a compilation call 'Eponymous' if you wanna compare them.
 7. My Markbass CMD 121 the other night in a loudish rock band punches well above its weight.
 8.
Of course, we've yet to solve the trickiest question on this subject... Exactly what does one do with oneself during verses of Alright Now?
I take a swig of my pint and rock back and forth like Andy Fraser in the IOW video.
 9. Old Macca drops a clanger about 3:01 in Let it be. He plays a wrong chord on the piano and quickly corrects it before anyone notices. Unfortunately, I did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfX0q1aNCos
 10. I always carry a spare bass. I have one of those double gig bags so one is left in it in case of bass failure or string breakage. I dont have a spare amp so I may have a look at getting a sansamp.
 11.
Erm hadn't you already decided a few posts back that this photo wasn't actually a Nate Mendel and therefore wouldn't have had a Badass (or hi mass as is now) fitted? Confused....
Yes you are right. I had completely forgotten the original post. I had to re read it after I posted the comment. My memory went with my hair.
 12.
What was there first album for Warner's?
Green. Released in 1988. It was the follow up to Document.
 13.
I loved out Out of Time, a truly great album, I must have worn that tape thin in my car throughout 91/92.
I was in a band who's guitarist was a fan of the early IRS abums. We used to do Begin The Begin, but after they signed to Warners he thought they sold out.
 14.
LOL! That is my bass I found it via google images and I was like... "when did I post it on basschat??!?"
Sorry mate. BTW you havent got the badass bridge on it. Did you not like it? Edit. I re read the post from last year. Sorry mate. BTW have you seen what these are going for now?? https://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-nate-mendel-p-bass-candy-apple-red/75186?gclid=Cj0KEQiA6_TBBRDInaPjhcelt5oBEiQApPeTF8i47Z14HWdvavUUAhnTYhbYmukqOFi10eIVIL4mGJAaAsAX8P8HAQ
 15. There has been a lot of recent publicity regarding the 25th anniversary of the mandolin bothering 'Losing My Religion' and its parent album Out Of Time. I have just been watching a Late Show repeat from 1991 on the BBC iPlayer where the bespectacled bass master Mike Mills switches to keyboards and Drummer Bill Berry takes over on bass on Half A World Away. They split up at the right time I guess, but I,m off to dust of my old vinyl LP's for a trip down memory lane.
 16.
+1. A very under rated bassist. For anyone new to blues bass, all you need to do is listen to his contribution on the John Mayall "Beano" album (John Mayall & Eric Clapton).
And he was barely 20 - 21 when he made that record.
 17.
Check out the TGI Extreme - I paid £37 from Bassgear, but I'm not sure they do them now they are online only.
Another vote for the TGI. Good padded gigbag.
 18.
Thanks, I saw those videos before, but I don't want to tamper with truss rod, after seeing my wife snap the string last night when tuning i realise how fragile they are!
I never let my wife anywhere near my basses or my strings.
 19.
Thanks, And I'm fully aware I can be a bit of a "stick in the mud" on certain topics and issues Blue
Get yourself a plane ticket to the UK. We'll soon sort you out!!!
 20. Never done it. Always tuned straight to pitch and they seem to stay there.
 21. Peter Cooks shop in Hanwell has recently closed down and been converted into flats.
