His playing on the One Step Beyond album inspired me to pick up the bass.

Also eliminates the need for a jack lead for me to trip over.

I started on bass and picked up the guitar about 8 years later. Hearing how the major and minor chords worked together made me appreciate how bass lines were constructed. Still prefer the bass though.

The late 70's for me. JJ Burnel and Bruce Foxton with their plectrum powered, almost lead basslines to the fore. No more bass is easy to play and anyone can do it. Right up there in the mix showcasing the power of the bass.

No. All my basses are strung with Ernie Ball Regular Slinkies. When I buy new or second hand, the original strings come off. Doubly quick if they are flatwounds.

The only times I get anxious pre-gig is when there are very few people in the crowd. Playing to an empty pub really brings me down.

I have never actually broken a string by playing. I have, on occasions had a roundwound string winding unravel on me, where it has been sitting over the bridge saddle.
