1. Yes. My Markbass CMD 121 combo is plenty loud enough for small venues. I have the New York ext speaker if needed, but rarely do.
2.
I'm glad I wasnt the only one that thought that! I just didnt say it. But now I have!!!
I thought he was a bit rude too. Still, I now know about those headphones which I never knew existed.
3.
Stunning looking bass IMO, jaw-dropping.
Bass? What bass?
4. Ok fairy nuff. I am not familiar with the Wilburies stuff and that song and the fact they dont (didnt) have a regular bass player inspired me to post this.
5.
It's their song - in all fairness it is up to them to decide what bassline goes on it !
Oh yes, I agree. But it still seems thrown together to me though.
6. Someone has requested that we play The Traveling Wilburies' - 'Handle With Care' for their birthday party in a few weeks time. While its an innocuous little song, I feel it has been let down by the bassline which was probably played by Jeff Lynne who is not really known as a bassist. A really nice walking line would IMHO suit the song better, rather than just doubling the guitar parts in the verse. I,m sure they could have used a session bassist rather than a one take 'That'll do' bass part.
7.
London and Home Counties seems to be around the £250 mark, give or take.
True. Unless its a first (audition) gig then its usually only £200. If they like and re book you, then it usually goes up.
8.
Yep - thats what we did. Except it was about 60 foot and 12 plugs! - and the plug that it was put in to a double adapter that was charging someones phone
9.
Not telling Granny how to suck eggs and all that, but were you not able to take the main power from another socket not affected by the meter, ie the room next door etc?
Not without running a 30 foot ext cable across the pub floor and then having to overload it with about 8 plugs.
10. £995 on a buy it now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/191879583930?lpid=122&chn=ps&googleloc=1006886&poi=&campaignid=207297426&device=c&adgroupid=13585920426&rlsatarget=aud-133395220626%3Apla-131843261346&adtype=pla&crdt=0
11. Just to wind the OP up. 12. Using the program is effortless, simply play the CD every day for 55 minutes. There is no boring music to listen to over and over, only pure subliminal messages blended with a synthesized randomizing soundtrack that sounds like bubbling water. Yes, that works, I now I'm bursting for a pee!
13. Played ln another pub with a noise meter. It was set so low that even the crowds cheering and clapping set it off! Another band who came along to listen told us they counted it going off 15 times! As Bassbiscuits commented above, we also had to play classic rock so low with no balls to it. Funny how the quieter you play, the slower you play We wont be going back. Shame as the crowd loved it!
14.
If I played a Squier I doubt I'd replace the logo with an F-decal. In fact, the Squier logo can be more desirable in certain circles where you're only considered a 'proper' gigging bass player if you play a Squier bass through a Peavey combo, or some other workhorse rig. Genuine Fenders and expensive lightweight gear are seen as a bit gauche and probably means you're a weekend warrior. Edit: Wasn't there a picture of Trotsky on here just now? Or did the Politburo airbrush it out??
And my post has gone too. Oh well, easy come easy go!
15. There's so many Fenders on the market these days compared to 30 years ago when we only had one... Fender USA. Now we have have Japanese, Mexicans, Nate Mendels, Dee Dee Ramones and lord knows what else. The 1963 Limelight I bought from Discreet, I have no intention of passing off as the real Mc Coy, as I also will not try to defraud someone by passing my Fender badged Squier bitsa as an original . Frankly, I have more important things to worry about.
16. I bought my USA P bass new and now matter how I set it up, I couldnt get it to play like I wanted. In the end, I took it to Andrew at Chandlers in Kew, who took one look at it and told me that it had a typical Fender hump at the top of the neck. He sorted it out and now it plays like butter! I dont know wether thats a QC issue, or just the way they are these days.
17. Those early single coil pickups are prone to damage. I had a paisley pink one and the E string got caught under the rim of the pup and snapped it in half.
18. I was toying with the idea of importing a bass from Japan but decided against it. This may help you from getting stung again. http://www.dutycalculator.com/
19.
Are you planning on walking any distance with this gig bag on your back? If so I recommend that you try before you buy. Having bought a (single) Mono M80, I found it very uncomfortable to wear and would not consider buying another expensive gig bag without trying it out first.
No not really. Just from the house to the car and the car to the venue.
20. Yes, the mono seems to be the favourite. I have also seen Fender do one but its quite cheap and will probably fall to bits after 1 week.
21. I believe John Mc Vie from Fleetwood Mac uses a Lakland these days, Although I'm sure he uses sensible strings.
22. I have finally succumbed to the idea of taking 2 basses to a gig in a single gigbag. I have seen a few for sale on here and ebay etc, and was just wondering whether these are a good investment or a bit of a gimmick?
23. I sing backing vox, so I am generously allocated space at the front to get my mike stand in. Our lead guitarist doesnt sing, so he has to stand at the back near the toilets!
24. The drummer from The Specials was nicknamed 'Prince Rimshot' He was an excellent ska drummer.
