1.
I'm not trying to be argumentative but I have never had a strap detach itself from a bass and so have never used straplocks. This could be because I don't go in for onstage gymnastics, spinning my bass round my head etc.; rather I jiggle in place at the most. Are straplock users more acrobatic?
Ive had a few straps come undone while gigging. The worst one was when I was singing the lead vox and had to grab the bass to stop it from hitting the floor. I had to carry on singing without the bass and it sounded dreadful. I use the Fender straplocks with the push button quick release on all my basses these days.
2. Please let us all know how you got on. Good luck.
3. My first bass was yet another Satellite short scale nightmare. Bought from the Exchange and Mart in West Ealing in July 1982. No I dont still have it, but this one sold on ebay last summer for £86!
4. I,m gonna have to get my eyes tested. I thought the thread said Headset Mice!
5. I'm not a really great fan of The Foo fighters or, Nate Mendel, but the signature bass is perfect for me and the music I play. I,m not really that bothered if its a sig bass or not. Its got a great neck and tone and thats all I care about. Although I do like the early 70's vibe.
6. Some bloke was telling me the other day, that the reason there are so many copies of Precisions and to a lesser extent Jazzes, is that Leo failed to copyright his design. I find that a bit hard to believe seeing as, there are copies of Gibsons etc. on the market
7. I started playing guitar many years after starting bass. Once I learnt how the major and minor chords work together it made so much sense. I was about 30 then. There are are lot of similarities between guitar and bass in as much as all your scales pentatonic etc you can carry across. If you played a P bass before, have a look at the Squire strats or tele Affinity range to get you going.
8. No privacy for this young lad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJXn57H3Uos
9. Yes, I would plump for SPB1's. In fact, I already have. I use them on my bitsa Precision. A nice vintage old school sound. The polar opposite of the Quarter pounders on my Nate Mendel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1obnQfl2r4
10.
As I play in an acdc covers band, I thought I had better get a Stingray of some description. Not having the cash to get a "real" one, I bought a Sterling Sub in black and maple and after a few cosmetic changes, I have to say I am well impressed with it. A set of flatwound Chromes are winging their way from Germany and will be going on as soon as they arrive.
Really? What sort of cosmetic changes?
11. My Nate Mendel. The Quarter Pounder pickup really beefs up the bass in my Classic Rock band.
12.
What year is it please .
The serial Number in the picture dates it to 2008/2009.
13. I use Ernie Ball regular slinkies with a .50 G and .70 D string. I play classic rock and hit quite hard, sometimes with a pick. I used to use the Super slinkies but the strings woud be flapping about all over the place.
14. You'll be surprised the amount of bassists who still use the smiley face setting.
15. Bear in mind though, that the B1on has an amp model setting that can affect the tone.
16. Top man to do business with.
17. The great Bruce Thomas still amazes me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrjHz5hrupA
18. USA P with tort. Its not real tort anymore, but better than some aftermarket pickguards.
19. Ability to play/sing whilst wearing a massive furry costume that will no doubt stink to high heaven after a couple of gigs a must. (costume not provided, please bring your own to audition, you will not be auditioned without a costume).
20. I have only played one open air gig in my entire musical life. A charity fundraiser for Hanworth Villa football club last summer on a really hot day. Really enjoyed it too.
21. I had a 1995 P bass that came in that type of case, so its hardly 'vintage'
