1. 'Caught by the fuzz, while I was still on the buzz!' What a great lyric.
2. Here's one from NYE just gone. Having thought we had finished for the night, I turned of the amp and started to unstrap the bass when the others lurched in to 'I Predict A Riot'. Having got the amp back on again quick, I couldnt find my pick so had to play with fingers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPdjy5eFG_g
3.
If I play an A minor, and use all of the natural notes, I am also playing the notes for a C major. When does it become a mode, as I think I understand that a mode is a scale just starting on a different note, but keeping within the notes of the scale. So if I start a G Major, but start it from F#. Am I playing a mode?
No I dont think so. Starting from G would make it a Mixolydian. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mode_%28music%29#Ionian_.28I.29
4.
Are there any female bass players on this forum, other than Sylvia of course? It seems to be very much a male domain!
I think one of the ladies on here plays in a Pink Floyd tribute band.
5.
Lennon said The Beatles are more popular than Jesus to an English journalist and was reported as such in England, never caused a mumour (and he was probably right as well) then it got reprinted in the USA and all hell broke loose, because some our transatlantic cousins are a tad excitable about that sort of thing, the Beatles are still more popular than Jesus, based on how long and numerous Beatles threads are on Basschat anyway
Heres a bit more on the subject. 6. I dont really regret selling anything. They are all just tools to enable me to do my job. Apart from a 1974 Jazz which I sold for peanuts in 1995 before the internet told me what they are now worth!
7.
Do these have rolled fingerboard edges like the Fender Roadworn series?
No.
8. There was a seller recently, trying to sell an expensive bass with no pictures and a poor description. When someone offered some advice, they got really arsey about it!
9. Nobody cares in my band unless I drop a major clunker. They always leave me to get on with it. 'Yea he's great' they quoth in a disinterested attitude.
10. USA P bass - My main bass Nate Mendel - Back up bass Squier P bitsa - Back up to the back up Incoming Sterling SUB Stingray - ??? Oh dear.
11.
Hang on chaps, where are the pics?!?!
Picking it up next week hence the NBD incoming bit. A nice piccy from the interweb.
12. Indeed. The strings given and fitted free really is great service.
13. NBD incoming. Wunjos' have done me a deal on an SUB Stingray in Black and Maple. I wanted the stock strings replaced and fitted with Ernie Ball regular slinkies, a gig bag and a complete setup for only £299. I'm a happy Hobbayne.
14.
Excuse my ignorance. What's a B Neck?
A-1 1/2 in. B- 1 5/8 in. C- 1 3/4 in. Width at nut
15. A few years back, I was busy lugging my heavy old Trace combo from gig to gig, an acquaintance of mine told me he was thinking of trying out this new amp by someone called Mark Bass. Never heard of him I said. It will never catch on.....
16.
Wow, my dad was not in the Applejacks, either! What are the odds??
What are the odds that the bass player in that video is now someones dad??
17. Bass player. Sometimes Bassist too. depending on the mood I,m in.
18. Play with as many people as you can, and as many different genres of music as you can. Dont limit yourself to just rock and nothing else.
19.
Oh stop it! You're embarrassing yourself now! Not withstanding that you took my quote totally out of context to the polar opposite of it's meaning. You've already told us you were twelve!! - 12 ffs! when you had the revelation of seeing them on Ed Sullivan!! You weren't "there"! What were their lyrics going to tell you about "women" when you were twelve?? How to "always be true" - how to "hold their hand"?? Yeah - we get it, you're a terminally manic Beatles obsessive, but even the people who genuinely actually were "there", and I know many who were, (including some who had/have an inside perspective on it) and even they don't obsess to the point you do. Get a grip, have a word with yourself. Seriously - consider changing your colour from "blue" to rose-tinted.
Calm Down!
20. Actually, my action on the Nate Mendel is only 3mm. I have been measuring from the fretboard and not the top of the fret.
21. This has been gathering dust after being usurped by my Markbass cmd. Fully working although carpet covering a bit tatty in places. Good backup for small gigs. Pick up from Greenford Middlesex (West London) Sorry cant post. Pic from internet.
