1. There are quite a few intros on just the bass alone. Electric or otherwise. This classic Stranglers tune is my personal favourite. Post yours. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER41WqmdzH8
2. I learned a lot of stuff from SBL without enrolling. Some really neat tips and tricks which I pinched from his youtube page.
3. The Beatles win hands down on this. From the early stuff like This Boy and Here There and Everywhere to the later stuff like Because and You never Give me your Money, the harmonies send a shiver down the spine.
4.
Everything Blue
Indeed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2H8ph_FnTE
5. He is the reason I picked up the bass. Him and Bruce Foxton.
6. I think Blue has mentioned before that he plays bass for a living. I dont think there was any malice intended in his question. Anyhow, I am quite happy to gig once a month. That is enough for me. Music is a hobby, I have a good job and lovely wife and home, and sometimes I prefer to stay in and enjoy them.
7.
Has written one of the most recognised basslines in history and I bet 95% of the population wouldn't even recognise his name... Happy Birthday...
I was going to post that one, but its towards the end and assumed that most people who dont know the slow bit would get bored and turn it off before the best bit.
8. I,m sure all of our Basschatters would like to wish John a happy 70th birthday today. Even more so, after his recent cancer scare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ul-cZyuYq4
9. Stereo was not a necessary option for the albums released in the 60s. I was brought up in the 80's where those crappy stereo mixes where only available due to the mono long being withdrawn. All Beatles fans in the 80's were only given the 2nd rate mixes produced by EMI with the sh*tty left/right vocals. I think its time to look the Beatles as a classic act and remix for the younger crowd.
10. Just got myself the bluray and CD edition of this, and am very surprised at the sound quality of the new mixes done by original producer George Martins son, Giles. I can actually hear the hi hat and clear crisp toms for the first time. Also the stereo is much more balanced. None of that vocals on the left instruments on the right nonsense! I realise that you shouldnt muck about too much with classic recordings, but wow! Casual listeners shouldnt notice too much difference, but I have been pleasantly surprised.
11. Did you know that the piano on Hey Jude and Bo Rap is the same one??
12. I used to do that in my first few weeks as a wannabe bassist!
13. The price of these new have gone through the roof! Take a look at the price in Karlfers link. This bass is only a year old. What a bargain!
14. I believe someone was on the look out for one of these on here recently.
15. I got an app on my iphone, cost a fiver I think. Anyway, I only tune the E string with it and do the rest myself by ear.
16. Brett Anderson from Suede has me reaching for the off button as does that bloke (Ricky something) from the Kaiser chiefs.
17. Is it supposed to look like that or has it melted??
18. When The Jam first toured America they were the support act for Blue Oyster Cult. Now theres incompatibility for yer! I think they got booed off stage too.
19. The intro to Sun King from The Beatles Abbey Road is quite long at 1 min before the vocals start.
20. If thats free P & P I would go for it!
