1. I think there was a Maurice Plaquets in Shepherds Bush too. Although I think it was mainly pianos. I bought my first proper bass, (A Squier 57 P bass) from Dave Simms in Ealing in December 1984.
2.
Just because someone is a fantastic and musically talented player , doesn't always make them the best person for the job. Being a band member is about much more than technical ability.
Fair point. Fender also make a Dee Dee Ramone and a Adam Clayton bass. Both players are not flashy, but play for the song.
3.
Nice bass. Shame its wasted on Nate Mendel - a guy who plays 8th note roots whilst uncharismatically staring at the floor. Its not like he's got a hard job is it? Terrible bass player!
He wipes the floor with that fella from Coldplay though.
4.
I have one too and love it. Lovely and lightweight and easily transportable. I tend to hear "oh, it's a MarkBass, that's fine just plug it in and go" from sound engineers. I did the tweeter mod to mine so it doesn't hiss and it still sounds great. I find it's a darn good DI box for my audio interface too so my recordings have improved as well.
Tweeter mod?
5.
Inspired by the 50 Basslines everyone should know I immediately thought "Teenage Kicks". The thread wants Song, Bass player and Scale. I don't want to play it, but everyone should know it. So I got thinking about the scale.. This is way beyond me, given how simple the song is. So the verse is C#, C and A# The chorus is G, G# and A. More properly I guess the verse is C#, B#. A#. And before you pedants start, yes there is such a note as B#. This bit could be C# major (Tonic, maj7th, maj 6th) but to me it resolves to the A# so its A# minor, (min3, 2, 1 progression) I think its obvious that the chorus has to be a modulation, because the chorus resolves to A. My musical theory isn't great but I can't think of any scale with two consecutive half tome steps. Which I guess means G# is a passing chromatic. Does that mean the C# is also a passing note. Put me out of my misery.
I think your record player is running a bit slow.
6. I have one, and the New York 121 ext cab. Its the bees knees! (Well, hidden behind my knees anyway)
7. The Stranglers - Nice & Sleazy. B minor
8.
Great bass! I'd imagine she'd respond well to the tort guard and flatwound treatment
I think some one on here did just that!
9. If you can scrape together another 50 quid, This would be ideal. You may of course get them cheaper 2nd hand. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/mark-bass-mini-combo-cmd-121-p/4276?gclid=Cj0KEQjw9JuuBRC2xPG59dbzkpIBEiQAzv4-GxoElMF_fQsR3fLzldkJuQ6p7FUSg6w21h8nHSQzy1caAuNh8P8HAQ
10. In my experience, bassists are hard to come by. Guitarists are two a penny in my part of London. Drummers and keys are also thin on the ground. Addlestone must be full of unemployed bassists then??
11.
I thought the Nate Mendel had a 70's TV logo? I'm glad someone else is as happy using BBOT bridges as I am, can't go wrong! Happy NBD!
Yes your right, the logo is wrong. This is what happens when you google for images and are too bone idle to check them properly. I have tried to show the dodgy looking relicing. Its actually growing on me.
12. I'll put some pics up tomorrow. But meanwhile, heres a stock picture.
13. Still on the look out for a back up precision, I wandered into Wunjo.s and had a tinker with a few. I was offered one of these to look at and was a bit sceptical as i was not a fan of Mexican basses or signature models. But I was pleasantly surprised. The neck is gorgeous as is the thump from the Quarterpounder pickup which is great. My only gripe is the rather odd relicing which looks rather like a halfhearted attempt with the odd blemish here and there. I would post pics but you all know what they look like.
14. I,m quite interested in one of these. Has anybody had any experience with them? Are the necks really chunky compared to the recent USA standards?? 15. Hanks guitar shop in Denmark St featured in the opening credits of New Tricks on BBC1 the other night.
16.
Well out of order IMO. When someone dies it's not the time or place for joking. I think "respect" is the word.
Unfortunately, the death of a celebrity opens the floodgates for jokes.
17. I,m up in London on Saturday and may pop in Wunjos. However, the last time I popped in for a browse, I came out with a Sterling Ray 5 string.
18.
Oasis Don't Look Back in Anger and Imagine by John Lennon. Every time.
+1 Even the main tune is a copy of Norwegian Wood!
19.
Is this the guy who does Freddie Mercury (also brilliantly)?
Oh yes. Stevie Riks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ-4bL-8mzQ
20. I would have a look at something like this... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warwick-Sweet-15-3-Bass-Amp-Combo-Amp-Bargain-/331616811601?hash=item4d35e6fa51 150 watts is plenty for small to medium size pubs etc, and at 24kilos it not a back breaker.

22. i quite enjoyed the Sheridan Smith Cilla TV show last year.
23. You may find you dont need the NY121 for rehearsals. I play in quite a loud rock band and the CMD121P copes well enough on its own.
