I really cant stand it when I hear the derogatory term "Guitards" used to insult our 6 string friends. I have a brother who has learning difficulties and this term upsets me.
I used my new Markbass combo last night in rehearsal and was greeted by sneers and chuckles from the other band members as I brought this little thing in. But i have read up on this combo and knew it punched well above its weight.
In my rock covers band it coped very well, never struggling above the loud drums and guitars.
I will see how it goes and maybe think about an extension cab.
I usually post an ad on here stating that anyone who wants my used strings can have them free if they send me a stamped addressed envelope big enough to fit them.
What winds me up is when Basschatters post that they are leaving, and there is a huge outpouring of grief and being told to stay as the place wouldnt be the same without them.
You come you go end of.
There was another one this afternoon who said he was going. Ok bye, life goes on.

I bought a Jack & Danny J bass last summer, predominantly as it was surf green! I was very (pleasantly) surprised at the general standard of components, fit and finish - and yet it only cost £119 brand new!
I have gigged with it and would happily do so again. It has one of the nicest J necks I've played (allowing for the slightly rough/sharp fret ends).
When I compare it to the rubbish I played back in the late seventies and early eighties I shudder at what we put up with!

I got a cheap backup a few years back from ebay. I think it was a Wesley or summat like that. It was well put together and didnt sound too bad after I set it up. Its quiet difficult to get a cheap and nasty unplayable bass in this day and age.

I only became aware of any problems when I came on this forum. What exactly has gone on with Hall/Rickenbacker?

He threatened us with legal action over the selling of Ric copies on the site.

I believe that Bruce played a Ric copy (live) and most of the Jam recordings were a Precision.

Yes you are right!

Not this weekend, but The Sour Grapes are playing at The Red Cow in Slough (Pronounced as in plow for those that dont know it) next weekend the 28th.
9 till 11.30.
8 till 12? sod that!!
The guitarists take their amps but the drummer just takes his cymbals and snare and uses the provided kit (Which isnt too bad)
Because I usually come straight from work I just usually bring my bass and effects pedal and use the provided Behringer amp.
I have never played a Ric, although my favourite bassists are Paul McCartney and Bruce foxton. I just dont like the look of them (although I love the guitars esp the 12 string versions they are gorgeous!)
Maybe if I played one I mihjt enjoy it, but Hey Ho!
Reasonably competent I suppose, but lazy. I rarely venture outside my comfort zone. I had to learn 'Get The Funk Out' recently and tied my fingers up in knots and ended up going for a lie down.
