1. I used to play original stuff and although it wasnt too bad IMHO, People just weren't interested. A few weeks ago I played All Right Now in a pub and everyone one went wild! Go figure. I think I'll stick to the pubs for pocket money definition. I have no intention of been a serious musican anyhoo.
2. Well, I use Seymour Duncan SPB1 pickups on my bitsa P Bass. I get close to a vintage tone with these, but a lot of it is in your fingers and amp settings. 3. She is quiet a multi instrumentalist too. An excellent bassist and guitarist. I saw her on the long defunct TFI Friday playing a P bass which practically dwarfed her tiny frame. That twat Chris Evans made some sarky comment about women shouldnt play the bass.
4. I saw an AC/DC tribute called AB/CD a few months back. They were quite good.
5. One of the best tribute bands I have ever seen were the Bootleg Beatles. They had it all down to a T. Even the costume changes from the Please Please Me period up to the Abbey Road era.
6. Pedant Alert! - 14.35 is E flat not B flat. OK, as you were. Good lesson I was following it without a bass to hand and still understood what was going on.
7. Rather ashamed to admit it, but The Land Of Make Believe by Bucks Fizz always reminds me of my adolescent fumbles in my then girlfriends bedroom as a teenager.
8. Hmm! Good points all round. I will leave them alone then. No point in chucking money down the pan. I have a P bass with an SD PB1 pup so weedyness not a prob. Still, I wonder why he suggested it though? Maybe I,m a heavy plucker!
9. I have been using Ernie Ball Super Slnkies for a few years now and am quite happy with them. But since I have been with my new band which plays loud classic rock, I noticed that I am having my amp a lot louder than I used to. Its not a problem as I have loads of headroom left on my amp, however, my guitar tech suggested that I use a heavier gauge string to "Put more meat over the pickup" I think were his words. Suggestions gratefully wanted.
10. I stopped using rotosounds years ago for the same thing. I use Ernie Ball strings now.
11. I suffer really bad with wax. Last year I went to the F1 grand prix in Melbourne and made the mistake of putting ear plugs in for the noise. They compressed the wax right down hard inside and I spent the next 2 weeks practically deaf. I got some otex from the chemist but it was so compacted it didnt help. I ended up getting them irrigated in an outpatients clinic in Canberra. The nurse had to call for a senior doctor to come and check my ears as she thought I had a perforated eardrum. Total misery.
12.
Does anyone know if he could actually play ?
Yes. He played the bass intro (and maybe the rest of the song too) on Your So Square Baby I dont Care, asfter Bill Black couldnt do it and walked off in a huff. Elvis picked up Bills 57 p bass and the rest is history.
13. Just gonna bump this. Come along to here the first ever medley featuring We Will Rock You, Smoke on the Water and Rappers Delight!!
14. I quite like it! Its based on the Fender Strat that Eric Clapton used on the George Harrison tribute concert. Although I dont agree it should be done on a 40 year old peice of history, but maybe on a newer less nostalgic model.
15.
I love the playability and the sounds of a Stingray, but unfortunately for me I only like those sounds when someone else is making them, they just don`t sound "me". But really great basses, and far more versatile than given credit for. Most think of Flea type sounds, whereas there is always Bernard Edwards to consider.
Agree. I always fancied a Stingray, and a few years ago I got one. Played it with my band but the sound didnt suit it. I gave it a few more outings before I moved it on and went back to my trusty Fender Precision.
16.
One from the archives here, 1987 I think. A fresh faced 21 year old at the old Red Lion in Brentford. I think its a 1983 JV P bass I had it reprayed from Fiesta Red to CAR By Dave Simms in Ealing, and fitted a black pguard.
And fast forward 25 years. A little older, A little wider but no wiser.
17.
he has a top bassist!
Is that Gary Day?
18. No gig on earth is worth more than mine or my families health.
19.
It's not MJP if that's what you're thinking
Or MDP which I believe you were alluding
20. How much do these retail for? I,m just down the road from Northolt and may put a bid on it (Unless someone tells them the real value of it)
21. Hmmm, I have reason to believe that you are not a real bear! But if you are can you give Winnie the pooh my regards?
22. Paul has been really adamant there will be NO Jam reuinion. I thought that time would heal any old wounds but Buckler still is rather miffed at him to put it mildly!
