One from the archives here, 1987 I think. A fresh faced 21 year old at the old Red Lion in Brentford. I think its a 1983 JV P bass I had it reprayed from Fiesta Red to CAR By Dave Simms in Ealing, and fitted a black pguard.

People rave about Jaco on here, his music does nothing for me at all. Horses for courses I,m afraid!

Has anybody played this? My band want to cover it, but I cant seem to grasp it by ear, and dont want to cheat by looking at tabs (Which will prob be wrong anyway) Any tips welcome.

I play with a pick and fingers, both with relative ease. When I started to learn bass back in the early 1980's, some of my bass heroes played with a pick and some didnt. I took to both ways like a duck to water. There appears to be some urban myth going around about 'real bassists dont use a pick' But I dont know where that came from, probably one of those slappitty thwackity kids showing off in guitar shops on a Saturday afternoon.

However, if you havent it played for a while, I would probably go a for a lighter gauge like Ernie Ball Super Slinkys in the day glo pink pack. Less tension and easy on the fingers.

I dont think you can. This was implemented recently I believe.

I saw The Eagles a few years back where Don Henley mumbled a few words once or twice and looked really uncomfortable. The rest of the banter was left to Glen Frey and Joe Walsh. Joe really was good at getting the audience invovled.

[/quote] They are notes of the scale. I is the first note of the scale eg A II second note III third note etc. bIII is a flattened third eg C instead of C sharp.
