So sonce we are now in March I declare the Feb competition closed, the results are in:-

51m0n: https://soundcloud.c...ion-ray/s-xnnqG (5 votes [45.45%])
Chrismanbass: https://soundcloud.c...ssion-ray-final (0 votes [0.00%])
lurksalot: https://soundcloud.c.../mission-ray-v2 (1 votes [9.09%])
butlerk02: https://soundcloud.c...k02/mr-basschat (1 votes [9.09%])
moonbass: https://soundcloud.c...d/mission-ray-4 (2 votes [18.18%])
OldG: http://soundcloud.co...ssion-ray-final (0 votes [0.00%])
VasDim: (1 votes [9.09%])
skol303: https://soundcloud.c...-ray-by-dientes (1 votes [9.09%])
Hmmm. Right I suggest Moonbass chooses the next track to mix. Do we have any suggestions or does anyoine have a track they would like us to have a crack at?? Next time I think we should go for a blind vote. So if people PM me the links to their mixes I will associate each with a letter and download them and then upload them in a soundcloud account precisely for the purpose of the poll which will be in a completely random order (naturally). I wont vote, since I may well be highly biased knowing who is doing what. Does that sound reasonable?
If it's on soundcloud you can still tell who's it is
Seriously, P-Basses do it far more for me than anything else nowadays. You get a totally fundamental bass sound that can be used on any kind of recording and at any kind of gig. Have all the custom ACGs you want but nothing sounds like a P-Bass other than a P-Bass, there is a reason for their success.
I can make my ACG sound almost identical to my P bass
Why would you want to play up there? You'll only get a nose bleed.
Would that be from the guitarist thumping him for encroaching on his territory?
What 94 mic tie-lines into the control room looks like:
*sneaks in and changes the order of the wires randomly
That Charic came to one of my gigs and said hi at the soundcheck...didn't see him after we'd finished making our filthy racket though, so I'm guessing he was being diplomatic
I seem to remember you were using a Markbass 4x10 at the time (to prove I paid attention )
So where is your area? Which venue(s) should we get in contact with? Have you got a link for your band?
Yes come to the Cambridgeshire area You might be able to get a spot at the portland arms / man on the moon (both are dives) but you will struggle getting paid anywhere in the area I'm afraid. The only way to get paid around here IME is to have a PA and play pubs
That Charic came to one of my gigs and said hi at the soundcheck...didn't see him after we'd finished making our filthy racket though, so I'm guessing he was being diplomatic
Nope, I actually came with a group of people. Got completely ratted, walked into the loading bay of a closed tesco to try and buy alcohol, failed. Went to a gay pub, bought some wine to take back to a friends place. Played the MJ "beat it" drinking game ("drink whenever he says beat it... downed a bottle and a half of red in the length of the track). Passed out, got woken up. Went to a mates house, climbed through his window as he wouldn't open the door (it was 6am at this point), fell asleep on his floor. Woke up at 8am and went to my lecture. Then went to pub From what I remember I enjoyed the music
So unless anyone has any major objections : 24 fret through neck , maple /maple and perhaps a wenge skunk stripe? Any thoughts on body shape? We'll talk finish later. I'm very boring and find the Precision body most comfortable.
Something with this type of forearm contour and with a the wood behind the bridge cutout (like a headless) but with a headstock still Doods is the only headless that immediately springs to mind: but I generally prefer the "pointer shapes" so I'll go for the Shuker Uberhorn or Horn shape personally

Unfortunately I'm busy this friday otherwise I would've made the travel across. Have a good gig

or if you buy here you can trade it for something else and get more for your money than you would from a shop
Gah! I've just measured the door of the cupboard I keep my gear in - literally the ONLY place in the house safe from rampaging children - and the ML112s are 1/2" too wide to fit through. That's me out of the running
I'm guessing that's if you rotate them and haven't missed the obvious?
Sorry I couldn't get to a computer this morning , anyhow, a quick count up has shown a majority in favour of a four string. Lets turn our attention to the neck, how many frets? what construction? We'll look at headstocks and inclusion of block or other mounts later. Call me boring but I'd like a maple jazz neck with maple board. 20 frets will do .
24 frets Wenge, Maple (Not a combination I've seen/heard)
....anyway - how do these cabs sound in real life? Anyone?
Who cares, no-one listens to the bass player anyway
Wow, so many replies , I'll try and address a few. Okay, I like the Corvette $$, those two giant pickups look like sex, but I'm quite a big guy, and I honestly look ridiculous with small bodied instruments. I generally prefer larger bodies, strung low to hide my crotch and belly . I have a jazz bass (he wants a different bass when he has a jazz??) and that's the perfect size for me, and I figured t'birds' body size + shape would offer the same 'protection'. Is there anything I could do to counterbalance the muddiness of t'birds? I'll most probably be playing with a pick, so that would help add some punch and definition, but how much exactly? Also, are there any third-party thunderbird pickups that could help? Lastly, what would happen if I added a brass nut? The bassist from a band called Attack Attack uses a Phoenix live, and the tone of his bass is amazing, although I'm 90% sure he recorded using a p-bass and possibly used something like a Tech21 sans amp pedal:
In all seriousness, in order of importance : Playability Sound Look I'm willing to put pretty good money on the warwick beating any of your thunderbird shaped basses on playability and sound. If you "must" go thunderbird then I recommend modifying. Maybe some EMG's in there would wake it up a bit

Fuzz/distortion/overdrive that's out of this world

On my GAS list is Soundblox Multiwave Distortion Pro, Darkglass B3k Already have a tech 21 XXL bass (that I might consider pairing with a red ripper for insanities sake) -
The original link sounds alot like old in flames
Exactly my thoughts! I was listening to "Only for the weak" earlier and this reminded me of that
I challenge anyone to listen to this video all the way through!
Done it and enjoyed it, turn the keyboard and vocals down to fit in the mix a bit better though.
Online social media is being used by just about every company in the world there days, so it would be silly of me to not take advantage of it. Isn't the direct interaction between the players and the manufacturers of bass gear one of the more positive benefits a site like this has to offer?
Most people here actively appreciate a manufacturer coming on this site to stand by there product and take part in a fair an open discussion which is exactly what you've done here. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your responses and also completely agree that frequency response charts etc broadly unneeded. Try one, listen: suits you more than current rig + can afford = buy doesn't suit you or can't afford = don't buy A great example for myself in regards to this is Barefaced Compact/Midget, excellent specs etc etc but personally the sound doesn't do it for me. Nothing against the brand or doubting the engineering magic that has gone into it but my ears know what they like and that's different to what other people like. Thanks for posting, I look forward to your continued participation in the forum

Also type of strings doesn't matter as they can/should be changed regularly
