1. Lots of food for thought here. What about joining the musicians union? Would the pli cover the damage to a venue caused by punters?
2. How about if I fill in something like this? With the added proviso that this is to act as a written agreement only and not actually as permission to withdraw the money also that the form is to be returned straight after the event? Or should I just attempt to draw up some kind of contract as to what constitutes a return? Something like, I [Name], Agree to pay upto a maximum of £350 in the case of undue damages caused by attendants at the event held at [venue] between the hours 20:00 and 00:00 on the 30/12/2012, if the responsible party can not be held responsible. The sum paid shall be directly related to the cost of any damage caused and shall not exceed this. No payment will be made without a receipt for repairs of the damage in question. Kinda get stuck there though...
3. Our punters are generally an alright lot, plus we've got some of our own mates who are working security for us (they do this for a living too), as well as the possibility of some of the rugby lads pitching in too I think you're right about it just being an official form of ID but what details can I hand over "safely"?
4. It's a rugby club that we have booked the hall from to use for a gig (reasonable price, good size). It was on the standard forms so I suspect its all above board. I think its to insure that we don't encourage punters to wreck the place. It's probably more things like broken Windows etc.. I'm not too concerned about there legitimacy, more how we can do this safely. We heard about this at other venues too.
5. Hi all, A venue we are booking is asking for a deposit against damages. Originally this was a returnable cheque but none of the bank have a chequebook. It has since been mentioned that we could give them some bank details in case anything does happen. Any other suggestions? If I do share bank details what details are safe to share? Thanks in advance!
6.
This is interesting, I would never set the volume from the "edge of feedback" level of vocals, It seems like that's a sure fire way of getting an ear splitting-ly loud mix!
Once you know your feedback point you can turn it down. What happens if you do it your way, putting the vocals on last and they feedback? You have to turn the lot down, this in turn changes the way the speakers interact with the room which means EQ has to change. I'm not saying you're doing it wrong btw, it obviously works for you. It could take a bit longer this way around though.
7.
So posted by Midnight on November 23rd?
Generally, yes. Although late entries can be added people can't change their votes so you're missing out on voting time if you are late.
8.
started on it today, i have the first half idea, the second half written and drums done but it's prob gonna take all month hope i can get it done before the deadline. Sorry if this is ignorant and in another part of the thread, but when is the deadline?
7 days before end of month
9. ^ +1 (5im0n) I've once seen a sound engineer working on getting the 'perfect' kick sound in isolation for 3 tracks (everything else muted on PA). They then turned on the rest of the mix and it sounded crap The day I spend 3 songs sound checking a bands songs is the day I'm working at Wembley Arena
10.
Cheers! So @charic, don't bother with the headphones then? So, what am I listening for when I'm adjusting the EQ? I have a bit of experience EQ'ing drums to match the room, but not with other instruments. Many thanks! Alex
The likelihood of a PA sounding anything like your headphones are so slim, add room acoustics into that and it's not really going to work. If you're looking at adjusting the EQ I would experiment at practices rather than live, you'll probably find some stock settings which work for your singers (or even better get a recording of them and see what you need to do to their voice to get the best sound). Happy to look at EQ settings for you if you get a bit stuck Really, live in a pub environment you're looking at avoiding three things: 1. Feedback (cut the appropriate freq or turn down) 2. Boominess (cut some of the bottom end or if you have the capability around 200Hz(ish) 3. Harshness, some PA's can sound a little harsh up top with high volumes. Roll off some frequencies to cut this back. Other than that it's a pub gig so you have very little control over the sound really
11. Headphone mix will be completely different to FOH. Elevate the guitarists and keyboard players keyboards and put them a little distance away from them so they act as monitors (they can't listen with their knees). How to do a quick good sounding live mix. Turn on PA Find feedback point on microphones and turn down slightly Only cut with EQ at this point do not boost (at risk of feedback) Tell entire band to play a song, leave lead vocals alone. Set any backing vox to sit just beneath the lead vocals, this may be done with EQ of Vol. Boost any drums that you feel need it but don't do it for the sake of it Set Instruments to their respective levels leaving space for bass in the mix (should sound a little "hollow" without you) Start playing bass and set level to suit Leave it alone from here on out, no-one is to change any amp settings (especially volume). Using this method I can usually soundcheck and mix ready in less than 2 minutes Once you're able and if you have anyone who can plink on bass as them to do so, go to the back of the pub and see what it sounds like there. If still ok you're in business
12. It worked fine after that Not changed anything except changing the default HDD for recording audio
13.
Didn't little jimmy Osmond do a version of this ?
I don't get it
14.
You need to evidence this, not in public though. Perhaps Charic will take a look and post the result. Garry
Maybe it will be next months picture
15.
A bit neck heavy!!! No sh*t!
16. Can we add weight to that too (curiosity really)
17. How huge? As huge as the death star? Or hugererer?
18.
ive got some ideas for this months tune... if i can pull it off... it will be huge
Remember 5 minute max
19. Not boomy for me (and I'm tuned to drop C). As for lost in the mix, not likely here either and on a recording I LOVE the sound. TC doing drop tuned death metal? Want to here it? Am I going to plug my new track AGAIN?! Yep Listen to it at volume (I dare you), laptop speakers probably won't do it justice
20. Just so you all know, I'm only putting myself in the poll
21.
Are they planning on offering rebates to all the customers that spent £500 on RH450's only to discover they are now for sale at £275 brand new?
Where?! I could do with a second one... actually more importantly what's happening to the price of the 750... if I daisy chain a 750 and a 450 that would be one RIGHTEOUS rig
