1. Thor sold me an LS-2 Great condition and good comms. Thoroughly happy with the transaction
2. I'm pretty much exclusively pick but honestly I don't have many tips... it just felt natural to me (and that's why I've stuck to it, no failed guitarist here thanks... strangely I play guitar best fingerstyle ) I don't "rest my hand" anywhere, my forearm rests pretty heavily though. Avoid long sleeves for a while too I find it makes it hard to anchor. Always alternate is a good rule to start with although you can play around with that once you're used to it. Remember to practice your dynamics, accentuate certain notes. Learn to play hard AND soft and learn to do both consistently over an entire track. Find songs which test your stamina, nothing too complex left hand but after 2 / 3 times round your right arm should ache something wicked (I find stockholme syndrome by muse quite good for this, although I step up the tempo a bit now). As for muting... I very rarely use my right hand. My left hand is my tool of choice for cutting notes short
3. My girlfriend can identify some bass brands, models and.... Drumroll please.... Some exotic woods involved in custom basses! Took some work and a lot on incessant banter though
4.
Q: Hi Mark, I've heard these arias are great guitars but the neck profile is more like a p bass than a j. Would you agree or I have I been misinformed? Thanks Steve 20-Sep-12

A: Hello Steve, Right now I have a couple of Jazz basses but no P-basses to compare it with; certainly the neck is slightly wider from E to E (not ear to ear!) than the Squier Jazz bass I have as well. Some hardware such as the bridge assembly on the Aria, seems rather more well finished than the one on the Squier, but both instruments are superb in their own way and I think as good as Fenders. The Squier I have is Korean and I think the Aria (no label I remember) is as well... or might be MIJ? Happy hunting, Mark..................
E to E?
5. If you're ever in the area you're welcome to pop over
6. Sounds good Nige, really enjoyed the GnR vibe for the first half I'm still stuck where I'm going with this one at the mo. I'm unsure I'll find time between various projects
7. Sorry for your loss But thanks for sharing your story and once again showing that basschat is a community above and beyond many
8. I think you have a problem Which ones your favourite? Have you named them?
9.
I accept that there are keyboard players out there like the OP mentions. What I can't accept is that anyone would want to play with them more than once. As I said in my original post the only reason that these "players" exist outside of the confines of their bedrooms, is because other musicians continue to put up with them.
and as per mine, some that can play don't develop the necessary skills because other musicians won't "put up with them" and allow them to develop
10. No worries, I think I might write a couple of how-to's at some point
11. Digital village will guarantee lowest prices, they're pretty handy I have a Korg M50 which sounds pretty damn sweet if I do say so myself. Keyboards are definitely a try before you buy though (and they make bass playing look cheap!)
12. Honestly?... I was young and concentrating too hard on what I was playing and not enough on others playing. Another lesson I learned once I got regular practices
13. But if you can't get repeating practices with a group of people how do you learn this skill without being able to play another instrument. I agree it comes naturally to a fair few people but in my own experience it wasn't a lesson I truly learned until I was playing bass (and got regular practices with other musicians)
14. Duncan at Digital Village cambridge is a keyboard player (as a lot of them there are) so they should be able to help you out. If cambridge doesn't suit you then any digital village is generally good. What's your budget?
15. By manage attachment do you mean my media? My Media? That only shows attachments you already have. To add new attachments go to "more reply options" then "choose files"
Well here's the little number I've been using for a bit, great guitar. musicman jp6 fully loaded
I keep meaning to get good at guitar just so I can warrant get one of these
17. I think it may be a case of it's difficult to get into a band if you're not good with a band already when you're a keyboard player. So that person doesn't get a chance to develop to the style of playing with a band.
18. I play keyboards, infact I've been playing keyboards since I was 4 but... I won't play them live if I can help it. Reason, it's pretty damn boring, I end up either want to improvise or fill out the sound some more. Keyboards are one of those instruments that just don't work in a band if the band don't work together as a unit. The other thing to suggest to your keys players is to tell them to pitch shift their left hand up and octave or even better use another keyboard and cut the mid content of their left hand but keep the bass content. That way you (with plenty of mid content) will be bolstered by their bass content and get a much fuller sound
19.
With regards to the Cab design, I don't believe that most Bass cabs are designed to HiFi standards and if you take some of the best bass cabinets and put the figures through WinISD or another Cabinet Emulator, you will find that the response is far from flat.
That's partially down to laziness/cost saving and more importantly if all cabs sounded flat then they would sound exactly the same... boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring
20. Bought a boss EQ off of Slobluesine, quick and easy to deal with and it arrived packaged so well it took me about 10 minutes to get in! Needless to say it was fine
21. Hmmm... done some technical calculations (cut out pieces of paper everywhere And it doesn't seem to benefit me much by tilting because of the limited height. Steps seem to be the way forward. I thought I was onto something there
22. Oooh no time off work required... It would just be the practices in london... hmmmmmmmm
