1. Welcome to the forum! Never heard of them but if they're fake they've set themselves a very small market.. Maybe another member will have heard of them
 2. Interesting, so the red box shouldn't need the speaker. Nice to know! Thanks
 3. It would still mean carrying around a speaker for no other reason that to be a "load" though...
 4.
(my only vaguely death metal reference point and probably too wimpy for you)
Ironically I'm not a huge fan of "death" metal. I use it as a way to describe the band to other people but I don't think we're true death metal. Genres are annoying anyway We're definitely trying out the GT aswell. I'm looking forward to someone ridiculing the guitarist for not having an amp before wiping the smile off of their face by turning up the PA
 5.
Hughes & Kettner Red Box. I have a H&K Tube 50 Guitar combo which has the Red Box DI built in. The difference between the DI sound and an SM57 on the cab is minimal...
Sounds interesting, quick search isn't turning up much in the UK but will keep looking.
It needs a speaker load if inputting from an amp's speaker out, afaik.
That would suck muchly
 6.
Do you take your own PA to gigs? If not, then you are relying on outside forces to be able to play. At least bring own wedge monitors.
We're looking at building a few BFM speakers Although we already rely on the PA a LOT because the drums go through it aswell (the monitors cut out at the last gig, surprisingly no-one noticed but fek were we concentrating...)
 7.
Throw a cab simulator in before it hits the PA and you're sorted. Liam
This is the only one that comes up on a quick search http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/behringer-ultra-g-gi100-active-di-box-with-guitar-cab-simulator--6950 Any other suggestions? I just thought... This would mean I could just DI live too (although I would miss the thump behind my back...)
 8. Hmmm maybe a pre-amp could work instead... ENGL e530 straight to desk? Any thoughts? Sounds pretty epic from what I've heard but would PA speakers do it justice without a cab in the loop?
 9. Bet you can't karate chop through it
 10. Maybe the Wiki would be a good way to do this?
 11.
If he's into wacky effects he should also look at the Linn Adrenalinn which includes amp models as well as a whole lot more. IMO to get the best out of any modeller, you need to spend some time with it in a band situation. You also need to ignore the descriptions in the manual and use your ears. Stop worrying about whether it authentically sounds like your favourite amp and just listen to how it makes the guitar sound in the band context. I have a Bass Pod and several of the amp models that I use as starting points for my sounds are ones that I would never have picked, if I'd used my eyes over my ears.
Not so much into wacky effects atm although we'll put it on the list of modellers to look at if we can find one to try
 12.
I was chatting to a friend recently who's also a Bass player but isn't registered on this site..got to talking about the type of basslines he likes to listen to - I was a bit shocked when he said he wasn't really into Reggae or the Funky stuff though he did occassionally have a listen to both... Since the "Funk and Groove" thread is one of the most contributed to and both are bass led, I thought that most bassists would be into Reggae and Funk..apparently not... Any thoughts??
I don't listen to either
 13.
Er, don't do it? I would always keep an amp on stage and use the modeller through it. It gives you that bit more control over your sound.
Actually a modeller through a PA gives us MUCH more control over our sound and levels as the drums are sequenced as well and the stage balance levels will have much less impact on the FOH mix We've thought this through a fair bit
 14.
The current 'Clever-for-the-sake-of-it' Prog by numbers (Dream Theatre etc.)
15. My guitarist is looking at moving over to a guitar amp modeller and completely losing having an actual amp on stage. A very brave move I'm sure we would all agree. Now obviously he would love an Axe Fx or Kemper unit but that's well out of reach at the mo unfortunately. He's been looking at : Roland G55 : http://www.dv247.com/guitars/roland-gr-55-guitar-synthesizer-pedal--82562 Boss (I think GT-100) http://www.dv247.com/guitars/boss-gt-100-guitar-multi-effects-pedal-bundle--99822 I've thrown into the mix : Line 6 HD-500 : http://www.dv247.com/guitars/line-6-pod-hd500-guitar-amp-modelling-effects-pedal--76074 We play drop C tuned death metal. Any other suggestions?
 16. Or.. http://www.dv247.com/microphones/beyerdynamic-tg-h54-c-neckworn-condenser-microphone--96181
 17. Something like this may work alright? http://www.dv247.com/clearance/line-6-lm4-4-lavalier-condenser-microphone-1-4-inch-jack-as-new--91911
 18.
Thanks for the feedback so far guys. @Charic - I wanted the thing to finish on that slightly extended last note - keep them wanting more, as they say.
I meant that the note stopped dead for me rather than fading out
 19. I love how many different feels this one picture has now had. Amazing work guys
 20.
Oh well....not posted much recently, but thought I would give this a go. Each part was recorded and quickly tidied up. A tiny bit of reverb was added to the higher piano notes and a short reverse reverb piano thing added at the beginning. Probably needs the levels changing to blend in a bit better - but hey ho. As long as no-one is expecting much in the way of technical ability, composition quality and enjoyment from this.....knock yourselves out. http://soundcloud.co...-autumn-morning All criticisms taken with the usual amount crying an childish tantrums.
Another great sounding composition Bit of a shame about the sudden cut off at the end. Very sad sounding and slightly eerie toward the end
 21.
OK here's my entry. I haven't got monitors to master on, so it was done using a set of earphones. The bass was played & recorded live & no editing done (what you hear is how it came out the amp). http://soundcloud.co...sjx/late-summer
Really like this Great bit of groove to it, the mix seems ok on my headphones as it stands, I'll have a listen through my monitors if I get a chance
 22. Does it "go" dead or start dead? Can you try putting a different string on it (say the a,d or g and just see if that sounds "dead" too.
 23. I've been thinking about this bass again and I've decided that on stage (where it matters) it would probably look pretty damn epic
 24.
...and what I came up with was pathetic compared to what Metheny did. Some of these guys are monsters!
I honestly believe a lot of composition comes from being in the right state of mind for it. If you're in the right state of mind more often (ie. it's your job) then you're going to be able to compose much quicker. Who knows, one day this thread could lead to someone starting a real film score
