1.
think i prefer the baseball shirt
+1
 2.
I have a Vox amplug and its fine with headphones, but when I tried it with the matching cab, it would fart out even at accoustic guitar volumes, and yes it was the bass version!
I all fairness ACG's do kick out a fair amount of bass
 3.
Would be the best place to test its effectiveness on different surfaces (stages, directly on the floor etc) Without the effect of room boundaries muddying the results.
I meant as a place where it wouldn't make any difference
 4. Welcome to the forum. Rule number one. Pictures of the basses and amps in the relevant threads or they don't exist
 5.
Might not fit in the gig bag pocket though!
True.. time to get a bigger gig bag pocket
 6.
I've said I can see some cases when it will work very well, and others where I cant.
Anechoic chamber?
 7. No votes for PJB? Actually they might not be battery powered... Loud though!
 8. The 4004 is my favourite looking one!
 9. ACG: The looks, the recorded sound, the live sound, the flexibility, the feel, the fact that the sound has shattered lightbulbs Fender: One size fits all in terms of recording, if I want to play in standard tuning at the moment this is the goto bass Yamaha: 6 strings! The look, sounds great, easy to play (although need to get used to hopping strings on it still sometimes still jump too many in a rush
 10.
Yeah, it certainly needs a loud colour, thy were loud 80's basses, well not in sound, they sound quite thin, but looks wise. They have a neck to die for, just need to get it sorted now and find some nitro-lacker paint, the acrylics car shops sell are too thick from the tin.
I think the Alsa stuff has been used for basses in the past, almost certain it's what was used on Dood's Shukers actually...
 11.
I have a pair or Warwicks - a 1997 and a 2005. The 97 plays like a dream, but I can quite clearly feel where the joins are on the 3-piece neck. Not something I have ever seen on a Rick. I still love the way the 'wick plays though The 2005 is whole other matter. The truss rod is twisted and the adjuster is knackered. I am in the process of having a new rod fitted. When I raised this, Warwick actually have a procedure for changing a truss rod - so I'm apparently not the only one with this problem. Neither of my Ricks (both 70s) have ever had any quality issues at all.
Warwicks are German, they'll have a procedure for bloody everything! "Your bass has caught fire during a blizzard? Please send it back sir, there's a procedure for that"
 12.
I nearly just dropped the results of not pulling out laughing at that
Sorry baby Johnston
 13. I have to say that wouldn't quite put rick build quality up there with Warwicks tbh, but that's just IME
 14. Just a thought but from our the BC breed of cab builders is there any reason why it can't be build into the design?
 15.
I've emailed Newtone (thanks Charic) about their tensions in an effort to get a true balanced tension set together, as they don't put them on the website. It would be great to get a UK manufacturer to do proper balanced sets, even better for me if they did them in steel as nickel makes my fingers (and strings) go black!
No problem I'm starting to wonder whether I was ahead or behind the curve with Newtone
 16. I played 3 or 4 rics back to back and found the sound and feel of each one varied wildly. Could possibly have something to do with it.
 17.
I got sued when I pulled out, apparently John Hall had copyrighted the shape of the end of mine
Are you saying that John Hall has copyrighted being a bell-end?
 18.
Dunno why it sounds like something Megadeth might choose for an ironic twist... You know, in the vein of Rust In Peace or Youthanasia
I'm going to knick it for the comedy progressive punk band that I'm putting together It will most probably be rather explicit
 19. Knicking "Meat Market" for a song title!
 20.
guess I must be, I use a 1mm pick all the time, but they haven't shed their 'skin' this time, someone on here told me to be careful not to catch them on the bridge holes when putting them on as it damages the coating, works for me
Weird! Either they've changed something fairly major in the last few years or you're playing a lot softer than I used too I absolutely wrecked them in no time at all
 21.
There are tons of British amps that will do it. If you want cranked sounds, you need an amp that can be cranked, the stuff you have named is mass produced American stuff that is made to be clean and cheap, which will tend it towards exploding when pushed hard enough to really filth up. I'm into loud cab and not so powerful heads for the purpose at current, 200w valve head is the biggest I sue and that is still pretty clean at audience backing away from stage volume, I dual amp and my cranked filth amp is 70w on the outside (two KT77), mildly grindy lows amp is twice that. But I have loud cabs, a Barefaced super 15 and a 4x12 guitar cab. The ideal thing to buy is the Hiwatt bass 100 that Umph has going. That's sort of tempting me, but I have over 30 heads at the last count, and nearly got to the point where most are working.
When they all are you should hook them ALL up and pull out a decibel meter
 22.
Well, yes. Because, as we all know, when punters download a song the first thing say is "Ooh, nice bass lick coming out of the bridge, mixolydian was it?"
So you've never been with a non-muso and listening to a track and they've said "that sounded really good"? That could well have been very difficult to play I've just put a very difficult bass run into one of my bands songs, everyone who has listened to the track since putting in that run has commented on it (including non-muso's)
 23.
Frankly, looking an audience member in the eye and smiling at them is a lot more productive than executing that fancy lick we spent all afternoon learning. But we never learn. .
That's until you take into account recording Also the genre may put a little sway into this.
 24.
just put some new elixir nanowebs on after having the old ones on for a year, about 30 gigs and practices most weeks, and I can't tell any difference, either I'm even more deaf than I thought or they're very good value foe money, £27 off ebay
Try then with a stiff pick for a week*, if you can't hear a difference then you ARE deaf *Warning, will result in a horrendous mess and needing new strings
 25. What it'll come down to though is that crap bands may well get regular gigs down the dog and duck but will never (ok, rarely then) progress onto anything bigger or better. Keep hard at it and you'll stand out from the crowd
