1. Awesome EQ this, used these a while back at the uni studio. Damn near everything sounded better when put through it
 2. The peavey millenium BXP 4 I had sounded great. Shame I didn't get on with the skinny neck
 3.
Ooops! I seem to have walked into the wrong room - I was expecting a conversation about the BC Blog. This seems to be the embarrassing confessions thread. My mistake.
Yep, and it's your turn!
 4.
[whisper] Ah. I don't think anyone noticed[/whisper]
[whisper] I don't want a hollow body so I wont be bidding either [/whisper]
 5.
Sound. Kens a top bloke and very easy to work with. Its worth getting his 2p either way.
If he works for 2p I'll have plenty more work for him!
 6.
When you're done could you spend a week recording bass parts for me? I can't pay you but you can use the recordings to get more work.
I've already done similar once on a sound engineering front. Also I'm not talking for free, we're just on a fairly tight budget. Rough translation : nener nener Actually if you check recent threads I'm actually offering to mix a track for a BC'er for free if they can provide the music. And nope, I'm not an amateur. Just been a while and need to relearn pro tools
 7.
http://www.artofkencoleman.com/ Mate of mine. does some epic work on the cheaper side of things. Sterling to euro conversion should also help lower the cost.
Now this is the right kinda style! I'll drop him a message after work
 8.
Have you seen A-level art students?
I meant putting up posters round a school
 9.
I used to own a mobile Disco and we ended every night with Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, because I have a theory that if you can get people to sing along to a happy tune as they're leaving they're less likely to turn on each other and start fighting. Though it does rather count on the Bride and Groom's families having not already started scratching and thumping chunks out of each other.
My guitarists wedding finished on "Tenacious D: Tribute". That was epic

 11.
One idea my wife used when she was working for a conservation charity was to approach a local school/college and set a competition, with prizes, for the students to produce artwork. Obviously they had to sign over any copyright, and the winners received various items of merchandise (do you have T-shirts, CDs and such-like to use as prizes?). The students also get the kudos of being a prize-winning artist while still at school/college - which can help them with applications to jobs, uni etc. Win-win situation!
Indeed we do and it's not a bad idea! The only problem is our music is maybe a tad heavy to go advertising in schools. Might not go down so great
 12.
Fortunately, my visit to guitarguitar yesterday was far better! I spoke to them about the guys at the other music store and they were more than helpfull, talking to me about what i listen to, trying out the basses themselves and telling me what they think! A really great team of staff I recommend it Only issue, amongst the basses I played, they were all good (I played a lot of Mexican and US P basses, the US models are out of my budget but i wanted to play around on them so i could have something to campare the Mexicans against), i wasnt really hooked on any of them. I'm still yet to find a bass i feel happy parting £350+ on :/
Your best option is to keep searching and take your time then. What are you searching for that you're not finding? It could be that you're searching for a mythical beast here afterall
 13.
Not sure - I tried ringing him but not available. An educated guess? £400 upwards, but there could be significant room for negotiation if they don't have much work on at that time
Ouch! It's times like this I wish there were more members in the band
 14.
If it's illustration you want, as BRX says, look around to find one with a style you like. Hireanillustrator.com is a good place to start - http://www.hireanill...i/illustrators/ this is my illustrator friend's stuff from that website: http://www.hireanill.../david-hallows/ He painted a bass for me years ago - a Hawaiian shirt design!
This is an awesome site thanks! I know it's going to be down to the artist but what would you reckon is the 'general' going rate?
 15.
Find a local and poor (shouldn't be difficult) art student!! Even at A-level, there are some genuinely talented people. Very cheap too...
That's a fairly good point actually. It's a good opportunity for portfolio work I suppose! I might put an ad up at the local colleges!
 16. That's really cool WOT, I wish I had it in me. If it was just shapes then no probs but this...
 17.
think about the rest too... what is the concept btw?
Will PM it over You'll actually be the first person outside of the band to see it
 18.
album art or the design layout? you get a good designer then you could use any old turd of a illustration and make it look good, or you could have an amazing illustration and wreck it with. also think what you are going to ask- go with concept and almost expect a good designer/illustrator to improve it- you need to tell them which bits are vital and can't be changed and which bits can. Personally I use myself (thought finishing my masters so not taking on work for next month or so)
Album art, really just the cover to be honest. I have the concept photoshopped up but simply don't have the skills to make it look any better than that.
 19. I think maybe I should probably point out that we're not at pro level yet and really need to try to do this on the cheaper end of the scale. These names coming up all have awesome art and the reps/price to go with it (and deservedly).
 20. It's finding these people though I really don't have a clue... As for style... Apparently it's surreal (I don't know, I just thought of it) and dark. Landscape / seascape? (is that a word?) it's a beach!
 21. Amazing artwork on there! I've mailed him but fully expect it to be a little on the pricey side
 22.
But to a certain extent music isn't going forward too fast... look at all the rock bands, tight trousers, converse, and a look that hasn't changed too much down the years, or punks who seem stuck in 1978 or whatever. For a lot of these gigs a single cut is going to be just wrong looking- a fender or similar to a fender just looks right. fostering originality is brilliant, and if you and 19 friends want something original, or how about something mad from Basslab, that's cool- but there will be 40-50 folk who just want a great bass that is better but similar to the fender they have had for the last 20 years- and with the price point and the look that's what it looks like the ACG is going for. Don't forget we are in a recession- I for one don't begrudge Alan wanting to tap into the market wanting fender-a-likes any more than I begrudge overwater for getting tanglewood to make their basses. The more small british builders are doing well the better for us all
Until ACG makes it HUUUUGE anyway... then they'll start a chinese budget line and charge over the moon for their normal line That's the usual pattern isn't it?
 23. Who do you guys use for your album art then? How much can we expect to pay for it? We have a concept but can't really do it ourselves as it's just too complex for my poor illustrator skills
 24.
I have depped on guitar for more than one band in this situation... Bass player - "here mate, can you tune this bass for me?"
Been asked to play soundcheck for another band before. I agreed if they didn't mind me not knowing the song obviously. Shouldn't have bothered tbh, standard strings on a $$ tuned to drop G = inaudible anyway (other than clack)
 25.
Unfair to make it the sole responsibility of the Drummer.
I disagree, my guitarists laptop doesn't have feelings anyway!
