I think a lot of the reason using a guitar rig as well is that it pronounces your mids way more than you would ever normally do with a bass amp. I do use a guitar amp, but my pedal board sounds pretty much the same through studio monitors, so I think my pedals are doing a lot of that mid boosting. A bass big muff (for the clean blend) and some extreme EQ might get you there. I think most of the HUGE sounds come from using more than one pedal or amp, and that's why a multi-effects unit would be good, because you can experiment with all that without the expense.
I had originally intended to go for seperates but that Zoom 9 does look very tempting... At the very least it would be great for spatial effects from what I've heard!

You could work on your right hand technique still you know
-
I need to win the lotto so I can buy tonnes of pedals and test at my own leisure
If I wanted clean power, I'd get a Boogie 400+. Best valve amp I've ever owned and built like a nuclear bunker. I worry about valve amps getting too hot - not a problem with the fans in the Boogie.
Would love a Boogie 400+, shame about the price eh

** UPDATE - GIG SECTION IN PERIL ** see latest post Good Morning BC'ers, I thought I would start a new thread as the old one was probably quite confusing to first time visitors now! Firstly, I'd like to apologise for the slacking on organising this bash, things have been busy but it's entirely my fault. Unfortunately due to the nature of what I want this bash to be it is a bit of a nightmare and really needed thinking through! So here's a bit of an update regarding the EABB. Big plans this year and still searching for a venue where we can actually make a bit of money for charity (me and a couple of mates are doing the rounds sometime tonight hopefully). Details Date: 24/06/2012 Location: Sham Studios http://shamstudios.co.uk/ | Map : https://maps.google....ved=0CGIQrwswAA Times: 9:30 - 16:00 Bassbash (ish ofcourse) 17:00 - Around midnight Plans for the gig: We start the day off with some light music, acoustic if possible. We lead this through to a bit of light rock/funk/indie gradually get more energetic. Leading into rock/classic rock/punk/ska etc... still getting more energetic. Leading into metal and prog metal to finish. If we manage to stick to 30 minute slots with 10min change overs then we can get 11/12 bands in all showcasing their talent from around the country and I really want to use as many BC bands as possible. Cost Bassbash : £10 (with free entry to the gig) Gig : £5 A favour Please ask your band if they would be interested in playing! For this event to work we really need a broad range of bands for throughout the day, hopefully you will be able to get your bandname out to people who would have never heard of you before. At the same time you'll be helping to raise money for charity (Nordoff Robbins http://www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk/ ). If you and your band are interested in playing (and I hope they are!) then please drop me a link to a demo or if you're local it would be great to come listen to a practice, gig or something of the sort. Please remember that as this is a charity gig it does mean that unfortunately I am not able to offer any payment this time around, if the day is a success then perhaps next year this will be able to be changed Future Plans If this goes well then I'll also be putting on "themed" bashes bimonthly (metal, rock, funk etc..) and then yearly a Basschat Bash featuring as many BC'ers as possible so there's a lot to play for this time around and I hope you will all get involved on what I hope to be the start of something a little bit special! Rik Possible Bands for the night (Alphabetical) Cerberus Cell | Charic (And no I'm not automatically giving myself a gig slot ) My Design | Gafbass02 The Faceless Dolls | Nate Caplan The Tuesday Club | Lozz196 "Jazz Band" | Thurbs The Ghost Repeaters | Gicut58 Attendees and gear 1. Maybe a tad more aggressive with more pronounced mids but not far off
-
Also that muse song sounds pretty cool
Where? You seem to have all the best Myung info! And I want in, I'm a massive fan boy of JM!
Well were buddies dontcha know? See here's us hanging out... And here's the link to the info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Myung Ok... it's not entirely reliable
The B9 has more in common with the older B2 than the new B3. Not tried a B9, but I had a B2 and it is not the droid you're looking for.
dammit... gas though.... need to find these to try out
-
Strange, more powerful pickups in my experience tend to have a more defined edge. Maybe I've just been lucky?
-
Looks sickly to me tbh
-
Just realised I confused Zoom with Digitech (yes I know.... ) How does the B3 compare to the B9? I have to admit I like the look of the B9 a lot...
-
Ooooh tempting... shame I can't find any videos of that pedal with bass
-
Interestingly I just read that myung has an MXR Doubleshot on his board... If this is correct and I'm not being dumb isn't this a GUITAR distortion?!
-
I have no woodworking skills at all. What could possibly go wrong?

This looks promising... I'm clueless too though! http://www.scottishwood.co.uk/stock.htm -
The pickups will possibly have even more effect on your tone than the amp though. They are effectively the sound source afterall. I've been tempted to drop some emgs in the ACG but I'm unsure if I could get any to fit (and I'm not modding in any other way
-
My standpoint on it has changed slightly recently to cope with idiots and seem a little more accomodating. You want to use my cabs? You're using my amp aswell. You want to use my amp? You're using my cabs aswell. You're drunk/stoned/idiotic/annoying? Get lost!

Building a 100W Valve amp - undecided on name as of yet!
charic replied to umph's topic in Build Diaries
Kinky -
I use quite a lowmid heavy sound so that sounds worrying tbh. I used to have a big muff but didn't get on with it (can't remember why). On my old line6 pod I used chorus, delay and distortion mostly. I really liked the grind sound on the line6 amps too!
-
Ah that's a shame, the trick is to just enjoy it :-D I felt the same way! Will check through your collection tomorrow!
-
Why?! I suck in comparison to so many on here! It's for charity! Suck it up!
-
you probably want a Zoom B3 then
An old mate of mine used to have a zoom guitar pedal and I have to say I was less than impressed. I think I'd prefer separates tbh
-
All these requests for info and when I finally get my ass in gear no-one gets in touch! Come on guys we need bands!!
