1. I seemed to be getting a lot of "full" sounding distortion on the vid with both highs and lows but not loosing any punch, I'm not really a fan of anything which compromises clarity. In the future I would like a nice collection of reverbs and delays for when I'm doing more melodic stuff. Funnily enough my behringer chorus beefs up the sound lovely but I just want some real aggression in there with the mix. I'm also currently working on my speed of playing and with the guitarist in the band also aiming quite low (also drop C... boosts the lows too) I have the opportunity to widdle should I wish. Finally... I think I just want some pedals
2. What do you mean "like"? That's me and EH's old band. EH is on drums
3.
Nooo, you need to have one of those little hand cranked sirens that you have to operate before depressing said plunger and turning the key.
Ofcourse!! Cyanide pill optional?
4. Strange, on the youtube vid it sounded significantly larger than the boss... maybe I should just get both
5. Any thoughts on the MXR m80? EQ and Distortion seems like a bit of a bonus
6.
I always let others use my cab, but NEVER my amp. Even with advance notice. If anyone asks the answer is no. Using the cab comes with the requirement that no drink gets sat on top of it. I always tell folk, if I see a pint on it during your set I'll come and unplug it mid set, even if it's not your pint. protect it. People always think I'm joking... 6 months ago, at a Nottingham show a guy did not take notice. He turned up 'assuming' he could borrow gear, yet I still let him use the cab after he pleaded another bassist to let him use his amp. I went up to the stage mid set and pointed at the pint sat on my cab. He moved it looking a little coy. 5 minutes later, his singer put a pint of water on it. I gave him 60 seconds to notice, walked over, got up on stage as they finished a number, flipped the power to his amp off and unplugged my cab. The band started swearing at me. I swore back and told them they had been warned twice. My closing words were "if you want to play a full set next time, I'd suggest bringing your own gear". I wasn't very popular. Oh well. They were warned.
Good man!
7. You would need to make sure they fitted length wise first otherwise I don't see why not.
8.
I've ought another brand new stack knob '62 USA reissue which I'm going to refinish in Surf Green this time. The upshot being that I've actually listed this pink bass in the "For Sale" section: http://basschat.co.u...91#entry1538791
You now refinishing wrecked basses as sideline work?
9.
Well I am pleased to say that I am now in a kick ass groove metal band I got there and it turned out that they were auditioning a drummer at the same point. This really helped me as not only did it make it easier to jam with a live drummer but also he was very talented. We ran through 3 or 4 songs and it all just felt natural, like we had been playing for ages. After those songs I was offered the place there and then. Great bunch of guys, had a good laugh too which always helps. Turns out the other bassist couldnt make last night Thanks for all the advice guys and I will post up some links to the bands soundcloud later on tonight as they have some tracks recorded.
Nice one mate So you were better than the other bassist then
10. Basically the first time I turn it on I want my guitarist to sh*t himself
11.
I'm pretty sure that somewhere on the Manchester Guitar Tech site (which pretty much everything you need to know about guitar refinishing) there's a statement to the effect that if you don't like the colour of your instrument it's nearly always more effective in terms of time and money to replace it with one who's colour you do like, rather than to go to all the effort of refinishing it.
Not quite as much fun though is it I've always been interested in refinishing basses and once I have a garage/shed then I'll be having a little bit of fun
12. Yeah there is... I just can't remember where I heard it probably dream theater knowing me....
13.
Start at the start and get some strings manly enough to be fulll sounding in drop C, chances are you are using standard ones, and that is like trying to rock a shortscale in standard.
Using a custom set of Newtones on my acg. Very clear and defined :-)
14. I'm thinking an octaver is unlikely to keep up with riffs tbh. Especially with the drop C tuning. Will check out the suggested pedals Ofcourse when at the computer.
15. For my metal band I was thinking of getting a pedal or two in the future just for scaring the pants off of the guitarist. I really want the bass to sound huge and fairly evil. Was thinking a distortion may do this but most that I have listened too seem to cut a lot of low end. Any recommended listening? I've not really ventured into pedals as of yet (have two) and so am pretty clueless.
16. Good luck, make sure if you are enjoying it that it comes through to them
17. I will be on the road with a mate on Thursday with the goal of finding a venue within budget for the next bash. The goal: Bassbash 10am > 4/5pm Basschat Fueled Gig 6pm>Midnight (We'll start light and finish heavy) Hopefully we'll raise plenty for charity If your band would like to play please message me with a link to your band so I can have a listen
18.
I wouldn't wipe my arse with it.
So who's would you?
