I just tried to run that for dream theater then remembered that their songs have tempo changes

I'd probably go "custom" fedora. As in new shape, new pickups, 6 or 7 strings, nice finish of my choice etc, I only say this because that way I would get exactly the instrument I wanted. Rather than what fender had to offer back in the 60's

Order another fender and send another bc'er in your place (who's either going anyway or lives next door) to check it over for you?
A little off tangent but he should have a look for an Ampeg VH-140C head. It's solid state, but it's one of the finest distortion channels you'll ever encounter and would be well under budget while being louder than a jet engine if needs be. Of course, solid-state isn't in fashion these days, but if he sees one around he should let his ears decide. It's the kind of amp that shuts the mouths of valve snobs. Other than that, the 6505 is everywhere, it's a great sound but everyone is starting to sound the same. The Dark Terror sounds great but might not have the volume for a full on live Metal band, he should try to borrow one to see if it will cut it in terms of volume. Tone-wise they're rather nice.
I'll make sure to put the ampeg on the list, how does it sound clean generally? For example I like quite a lot of the distortion sounds you can get from the marshalls I've heard but I've never heard a clean from one that I've liked. Live the guitar is generally mic'd up. It may mean investing in our own mic and stand for the exceptions but I think sound should come before volume. Thanks for the heads up though
Ah, just listened to your band. See what you mean. I'll get me coat and put some coccoa on.
Don't quite follow you I'm afraid

Fingers crossed for you
Sadly not. I don't drink anymore.
How selfish of you! We all know alcohol makes you play better

Link below You tube is the cheapest I found it. The You tube demo is in Chinese (I think) but about 4 mins 20 sec. You get a taste of the metal tones. Worth a look.
Don't think this one is quite right, very metallica sounding

Not usually a fan of slap at all but I like this! -
I wish!! I'm selling 2 basses that I had to sell 4 basses to fund. And from those 2 basses I'll end up with 1 bass worth less than either of them

I have a 5150 going, might be bit over budget though, its the MK1 which apparently is the one to have.
If he fancies it and it's still available at buying time I'll give you a shout, thanks. Currently his priority is paying for his upcoming wedding so we're starting the investigations now
He's selling 2 Roscoe 6ers to fund the purchase dude...
I just re-read, I think (and hope) it wasn't supposed to come across quite so rude. I know lets ask, "pantherairsoft, do you have too much money?"

Line6 studio110 is always my choice in this situation
Bill Maynard turned up to a few gigs many years ago. I spent half an hour chatting backstage with Dave Edmunds slagging off some highly talented 'balloon dancers' that were also on the bill - wish I'd have known who he was at the time Larry Grayson - who was spending the weekend with his friends Barry & Gary (luckily I wasn't the target for their drunken affections that night!)
Larry, barry and gary? That would confuse the hell out of me
You've got too much money
Says the guy with the guy with not one but two Sei Jazz 5 strings?

Heh. This looks cute
i would say the peavey 6505+ or possibly the 5150. Engl also do some very nice heads for metal.
He loves the idea of an Engl (always ranting about them) but I thought they'd be out of budget.
Also , if it's metal, make sure he has the relevant effects pedals/box
We're trialling his new rack tomorrow I hadn't considered peavey, I guess that's worth a look too!
You mean a BSc was more science based than a BA? Well I never! Lol jk but I agree. I don't think you really need to do a degree to get a job as a sound engineer. I wouldn't worry about tuition fees though; you're very unlikely to be earning more than £21k a year from any job as a sound engineer. It will more likely be something like 12-13. That's one of the things that put me off becoming one tbh. I think if I had gone down that road though I personally would have done a music tech course at 6th form or college and then tried getting onto the jobs ladder from there, starting out at clubs and such.
Yeah the money put me off too! I'm now a code monkey although I plan to combine the two skills in the future. And you say "well I never" but the amount of people who didn't realise this really reflected in the pass rates. Out of the 120 to start my course I was 1 of 9 to graduate.. -
My guitarist is starting the search for a new guitar amp and said he really liked the Orange Dark Terror so I'm guessing £400 is approximately the budget. My band are below for those that want to listen, it's pretty heavy stuff So what other amps are in this kind of budget and would be worth him looking at? Can you get a Matamp for this kind of money and would that do the job as well or better? Obviously we'll endeavour to trial anything that's suggested rather than buying blind.

The lomenzo should help a little bit too. Just on lightly mind
