1.
Forced originality? I've heard it all now. A new zenith in claptrap. Whichever way you wrap it up, copying other people's designs for the sake of chasing sales, IMHO is just poor. Come on guys - be brave. Make your own designs. If Leo was just like you, we'd still all be playing upright basses.
It's a business, it's about money no originality at the end of the day. Whichever way you look at it Dingwall make great basses and if you want a fanned fret p bass then there's not much out there so they're filling a gap in the market. If they didn't do it then someone else would.
2. I've got a voucher here for £60 off a £110 case of wine if anyone would like it??? No postage required I'll just message across the details
3.
I thought it was what we had rather than what we'd prefer.
Same!
4.
Mod your rigs to XLR input only and have appropriate cable. "Can I use you amp?" "Sure, its good to go, just plug in when you want to play." [Goes up to it holding a jack plug.]
You sir are an evil genius, although I think we can go further with this
5.
just based on the ones i have tried - glad you have a good one
Yeah I know, they do exsist and I got REALLY lucky as it was an internet purchase
6. Ofcourse everyones welcome. I'll be shouting at venues soon it's on my todo list. I'm just using this week to sort out loads of little bits around the house and with the band.
7.
you have got possibly one of the worst p basses available bit like a martian visiting earth and judging its food on the basis of a big mac do yourself a favour and try say a MIJ/CIJ p bass or a classic series MIM - basically anything other than bog standard MIM's
If your ever down this way try out my MIM and see if you still say that
8. It was just the speed of the thing. String changes at that speed with a pick and the left hand speed was just a bit too much.
9. Thanks all, Can't really express how chuffed I am and can honestly say I don't think I would be there if it wasn't for a great lesson with dood a while back. Next challenge is a symphony x track (its either paradise lost or a fools paradise I can't remember which).
10. 3 years ago I gave on playing Black Betty, signed it off as being out of my league. Sat down at my computer the other day and spotted it there and thought why the hell not and gave it another go, still not close. 10 minutes ago I nailed it! I'm not consistent on it yet but bloody hell am I chuffed!
11. Nice to see some real interest coming in again I will go on it right after xmas. Like I say, not going to be JUST a traditional bash this time around. I'm hoping to raise plenty of money for charity this time around! Merry Xmas All Rik
12. I would have told him to hop it. I don't share my bass/amp or cab. I WILL reluctantly share cables if needs be. I've had quite firm arguments about it but it stops incidents like the above happening and means I don't have to claim on my instrument insurance (touch wood).
13. Merry Xmas back to the team and thanks for all the work that goes into keeping the cogs turning
14. Who are you kidding anyway, your going to be going through the DI anyway Remember if all things are linear then with gain at 1/2 and master at 1/2 your only at 1/4 volume for home practice I expect things probably aren't linear on that cab either
15.
If the hall we used last time isn't playing ball, why not move to somewhere else? There must be hundreds of similar venues in the region. Perhaps someone has some good contacts we can take advantage of? My band sometimes practices in a pretty big village hall (only a few years old, so it has a kitchen we could use too). It's between Norwich and Fakenham, so not very handy for some people, but I can ask if you like. Let me know.
I have a couple of other places in mind, it's just finding the time.
16.
Extension leads! - If you can please bring one as they are like gold-dust! Hi Charic' I think you may still have my extension lead from the last eabb. You can keep it and use it when ever required. Jonathan
Yeah, still got it sat in the corner of the room Thanks a lot, much appreciated
17. Still trying to make this go ahead but I'm having a few issues about the venue and some pretty terrible comms. They've raised the price of the hall by more than double so once I'm in the hols I'll try and find an alternative
18. The 4th fret harmonic is my favourite and it always seems to be there :-)
19. Well currently the Shure 55SH-2 sounded by far the best out of everything we have tried and we are waiting for digital village to find the stock for us to find the "super" model before we pull the trigger. The improvement was vast and the feedback capabilities were mad Will update when we get the next few tests finished. As for the SM57 vs SM58, they are very similar and the '58 sounds fairly crap with the singer so we decided to go for mics with a bigger difference
20.
Really? I tried it twice in two different shops, and both times I found it very muddy and frankly underwhelming. I like old amps and old school sounds, so modern sizzle or clarity isn't my thing, but the sounds I was getting were quite poor IMO. Loud though! I also briefly owned a line 6 bass pod, used for one gig as a DI/preamp for the PA, and sold immediately after for the same reasons. Clearly a matter of taste!
On the Ampeg setting (forgot the name now) and the grind setting it gave a great tone for me. Top end bite with plenty of grunt, I'm still looking for a distortion to match that grind setting actually, it was quite ridiculous. Also it's worth noting the DI out (with cab simulation) was good and the amp was very versatile for it's size and price. Was a great practice amp for quiet while I had it. Also had the effects built in which was a nice feature. As a practice amp for a beginner to intermediate it's great as you may not know the exact tone you would like and it would happily lead you down most paths without hassle. All IME etc
21. First gig was good if for an unfortunate cause. I had been playing bass 4 weeks and had 40minute set to learn. The headlining band had JJ Burnell on bass and I got a compliment from the man himself after the set
22. Line6 Studio 110 would be my choice
23. Bought more than I sold on here and some trades done as well. One trade was with another BC'er in Norway and was completely on trust no faults whatsoever. Communication is key though!
