2.
A great day out last time, just the 4 of us left in the bar at the end. Count me in for a repeat, I'll try not to blow the lights up this time!
Spoilsport ;-)
 3. Don't worry, you don't need to cook to come
 4. Slepe hall have a fantastic menu but thanks L_Bass_Dog85 (Slepe hall is the probable venue but I need to re-check capacity) However on the topic of helping out there are a few resources that we will need for the full day: PA System for Gig (Already had one offered via PM but more offers for safetys sake would be useful) Bands for gig - If your interested please send me a link or cd and I'll have a listen (also some kind of number that you'd expect to bring) - this is a non-paying gig as it is for charity Extension leads! - If you can please bring one as they are like gold-dust! Cheers Folks!
 5.
Yup, count me in if you need help, I'd be happy to do a clinic/workshop too if time permits. Drop me a line nearer the time and I'll have a chat with my people who will talk to your people about those people; see if we can get an A lister to show up. I've a few names in mind.
Dooooood Sweeeet
 6. Sorry bombed down at the moment. I'm saying Feb at the moment so you can bring any Xmas prezzies you recieve along.
 7. If he's never been heard from again then maybe it's something less sinister although potentially sad?
 8.
Well, thats just it. I think this looks stunning. Kind of an Ibanez shape and with decent headstock. My only concern is that its $398.00 which turns out to be £245.00. Hmmm. Plus I've heard bad press from other forums that the bass is not that good. And its from china!. On the plus side, although he's a china man, his communication through ebay has been great. Just a risk when I haven't even played it!! Still very tempted for a cheap 'have a go'
What's the shipping on that? Don't forget customs charge and all that.
 9.
Hi, i don't normally start threads but my curiousity has got the better of me. I currently play a 6 string ibanez bass and have bee intrigued for a while about these new 7 string basses on the market. The thing is, I dont want to spend a lot incase I cant get the hang of it. So....ive spotted a cheap one on flea bay for next to nothing and was wondering what I need to look out for when I buy one. Are the necks all shorter the the averag 34" etc. Ive attached a link to the model I like. Its cheap and cheerfull but it does look nice!! Any thoughts on this? http://www.maxetone.com/JGallery/index.php...ry&Itemid=2 Hope you can help. Jason
That does look quite nice and the guy looks like he knows what he's doing! What kinda price is it, his work looks good
 10. If your in no rush then keep an eye out for one of the Conklin 7 string "cheapies". They're apparently quite good and come up on here occassionally.
 11. Thanks for the review lozz an interesting read Honestly I would probably have Barefaced gas if they looked a bit more exciting. It's silly but I find them to be a little plain looking
 12. Something like this? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=145727 I used a Line6 LD300pro for ages and loved it but I have a feeling they cost a lil bit more now. Keep an eye on the 2nd hand market on here and learn what's popular/try as many as you can. Usual suspect under budget is Hartke IME.
 13. As i have a focus I'm interested but of no help I'm afraid.
 14.
Charic, if you understand mics, just reverse them and you'll understand speakers! An oversimplication but there's a very close correlation.
Thanks Alex I understand enough to get by with speakers (and turned one speaker into a very poor microphone* for fun) but they never fascinated me in the way microphone placement and choice does/did. Unfortunately currently persuing software dev career so its not moved much for a while however some pretty nifty software may become available at somepoint *Although it didn't sound to bad for KickDrum lowend

 16.
So after all the fuss of taking my bass and now ok sansamp through rush hour, the producer said I couldn't input my bass to the desk, either via jack or balanced xlr and insisted I played acoustic....thankfully about 25s into the first song the building manager came and silenced us due to complaints from a neighbouring office. What a load of fun....
Ha that's a bit backwards! Usually they tell you to DI when you don't want too!
 17.
I'm off to re-read my psychoacoustics textbook... in theory I reckon can make a cab with a tiny bandwidth that sounds like it can handle a low B if I can just get those darn harmonics right... ficelles
Interesting thought and should be possible. Good luck in getting it to FEEL like there's a low B aswell. You might struggle to get the depth of sound at high volume.
 18.
I know that, it's just my use of terminology - untuned to me means what you get from the basic enclosure with a hole, tuned (in my usage anyway) means you have added something, pipe, shelf or whatever, to tune for a specific frequency. I would do the maths (I might even dig the formulae out of my old acoustics textbooks for fun one day) but ultimately my cabs seem to sound fine "untuned"... I am intrigued as to why this topic has caused such dissent though! Am I right to assume that no-one in here has actually studied acoustics at college or whatever, or more specifically the acoustics of speaker cabinet design? Hands up all those with Acoustics Degrees Not me btw... ficelles
Hand Up - Kinda... But not so much for speaker design. I'm still working on a project from Uni which may oneday prove fruitful. I work with Microphone placement and how it affects the sound. Sodding nightmare! As for speakers, not really bothered to look into it.
 19.
No problem I've got a couple of wooden ones, they are lovely but provide a thinner sound than I like unfortunately!
Strange, the one I used made a thicker sound than I was accustomed too
 20.
Thanks John! Charic, would you like me to see if I can get some 1.5mm ones? They only come in red or clear though.
No ta, they would get lost Good luck in your endeavour for picks! Btw wooden picks are good too I can't remember who let me use one of theres but it was quite good. May have been Barney
 21. I'm waiting for some newtone strings to arrive. They're making a set for specifically tuning down to CGCF. 110 Low C string. Will report back when/if they finally arrive....
