1.
A wonderful day spent in the company of many rather splendid chaps (& Sarah & Soph!) It was great to catch up with some old friends and to finally put faces to names and chat all things bass - while having a good laugh and learning lots... Thanks to all who organised the event and did the worshops etc. 'Stars' the lot of you.... Luckily I didn't come away with any major GAS, though Nige's amazing homebuild bass and Robocorpse's Ricky and EMG loaded Thunderbird were particularly nice... as were OBBM's Phil Jones combo and Charic's TC Electronics rig...! And finally, wonderful news about the money raised. A fitting tribute to Si (OldGit).... Here's to next year!
OBBM's rig just brought a huge grin to my face. Absolutely brilliant! You did look just a little bit shocked at the TC rig I especially liked the comment of "Don't tell my wife or band members that you can get this sound out of something that light".

AND all who brought their collection of basses, very nice indeed. Some pics
That's one of the nicest pics of my bass I've seen!
5. St ives, slepe hall. No problem in not paying in advance, will add to list when not on my phone.
6. He could actually believe that as that's what it was sold to him as. Doubt it but possible
7. Thanks to nicotine and all. Had a great time, met some monster players and got to a/b some very different gear. Managed to leave relatively gas free (phew). Highlight for me was a/bing my rh450 and rs210 with krakens rig. Remarkably close, you could hear a difference obviously but it was close Can also add that we are still trying to meet numbers for the ea bassbash And finally RIP oldgit and thanks for all your efforts nik
8. I'll add you to the list stinson Were not taking payments till we have all 20
9. I'm definately coming... Once i can find the postcode of the place it held in the thread!
10. If it must be new, MIM P bass / SD 1/4lbs and a BAII that was my choice. However if you stray from p bass and just look around on here for a second hand bass you will get a great deal!
11. just done a setup with my bass in this tuning and its working fine now, i dont 'like' playing with this low tension but it'll do for now! Thanks for all the info guys, Hopefully this thread will help other people too. Incidentally my acg sounds.... nicer?!
12. Thank for replies guys. I've got a lot to think about
13.
I have a cheap old bass (a Ned Callan http://tinypic.com/a/2i2wn/3 ) that I've done this with as an experiment. It works fine. I don't play solos and in fact I don't make a lot of use of the G-string, nothing I can't work around, anyway. If you're near London, charic, you're welcome to borrow it and see what you think. Hell, for £100 I'll sell it to you.
thanks alot mate but I'm not in the market at the mo and my next purchase will probably be a 5 or 6 string (pref 6!) Anyway this is currently for an audition rather than a permanent thing
14.
I've done both - my Squier was the best platform for this, since it has bigger machine heads than the Ibby. I used the original string set (Fender 7250's) downtuned to DGCF with just a small trussrod tweak. After playing this way for a year, I decided to try using a spare set of 5'ers on it (dumping the high G), Hartke Bass Attack mediums - did have to file out the nut to take the 0.135" B string etc. Again, minor trussrod tweak and back in business. I use this downtuned as well, to ADGC (so it's still tuned in fourths). This way I can get a reasonable tone out of the fretted B and C, and further up the neck. Not had much experience with using an octave-down - too 'synthy' for my tastes . I much prefer to put the correct strings on and get the full range of overtones from the string itself, rather than some electronic processing to get there. But that's just me.... HTH, Ian PS to the OP: I'll be at the SE bash with the Squier - you're welcome to give it a go, if you'd like
Much appreciated mate, may take you up on that offer
15. The tuning would be: CGCF if I remember rightly I was considering the 5 string set route, don't really want to mod the nut though. Hadn't thought of an octaver!
16. Does anyone have any tips on downtuning to C? I still want to be able to play in E way the mood takes me aswell. This is also currently just for an audition and on my ACG so I'm not modding! Or do I just play in E and play up?
17. Does anyone have any experience of the Roto dropzones? I need to tune to Drop C on a 4 string. I'm guessing I definately wouldn't be able to tune up to E with them?!
18. Can't believe I'm writing this but I've got an audition for a band already!
19. Nice one Rob, Welcome to the community, why not talk to the mods and see about getting a spot in the affiliates forum??
20. Shuker as long as your not planning on moving it on.
21. gumtree is by far the most confusing site I've seen
22. You've been in my chemical romance for 2months? You should give the zutons their song back
23. I would agree but I really REALLY want to do some form of gigging. Been in far too many projects that havn't made it that far!
24. I'll probably come earlyish (ooooer) and give a hand setting up as I can't stay too late as I have a mates birthday to get too!
25.
Was it yourself that got an email about an Ad up for the seat you were currently filling a month or so back???
Indeed it was, turns out the drummer is a premature-advertiser!
