1.
Thanks Charic, yep, I've been looking there a lot, thinking of running this http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/m-a...d-faders--30083 into a Mac running protools. Good start? Chris
You could find 8 channels very limiting. What kind of budget are you looking at for a mixer?
2.
Thanks JT, might do that, I do think I need some experience guiding this process! Band name......? We're going through a metamorphosis at present, I'll keep you posted. Lost a drummer and looking for percussion, singer has dropped guitar so we're looking for either guitar or keyboards. Interesting times and we may come out of the process a very different unit. With any luck anyway! Thanks so much SS, it does seem hard to find anyone really keen on PCs for audio! Cheers Chris
www.dv247.com you can spec up an audio pc on there. Id still go mac though.
3. Basschat secret handshake Something written on all emails known only to trusted members?
4.
I think I'm going to start looking at the control room first, specifically recording media and desk. I would really appreciate your thoughts on the following: Mixing desk 1. how many channels? "min 32 (always have extra!)" 2. new or used? "new" 3. dedicated software model (i.e., designed to work with computer), or generic "Id suggest generic, cheaper to repair etc also will work going forward" 4. best manufacturer/models? "mackie, spirit (i think that was the name) was very good, yamaha digital ones seem to get a good rep" Computer/software 1. laptop/desktop? "desktop, needs to be expandable" 2. PC or Mac? "Upto you, if you would prefer logic then you need mac. Personally mac with protools & logic but thats just how I would" 3. Software? "Protools if your new, learning curve is very shallow. Logic if your more experienced. I personally avoid cubase & sonar like the plague but again thats just me" Cheers C
I suggest you worry more about speakers & soundcard than either of the above honestly as you are less likely to want to upgrade. Also how many speakers etc.
5. Only thing it seems to be lacking is a "design a bass" section for custom basses. Would have been nice. Otherwise, great site
6. line6 bass stuff has a fair reputation and i picked up the 300pro when i had a larger budget and had a choice between ampeg and this. Do not under-estimate. Also awesomely powerful! Mwahahaha
7.
OK lets put it another way then,Does anyone use Rotos on anything designed in the last 50 years!?
er... My acg?
8. Line 6 Lowdown 300pro pretty much meets all specs
9.
Rotos for me too. Swing Bass roundwounds, stainless steel, heavy gauge 50 - 110 on all my Precisions.
Same here, also on the ACG. Just changed the ACG to roto's and omfg the sound difference is fantastic, before it was a 'little' polite for my usual playing so I was tending to play more fiddley stuff on there. Now it sounds more aggressive than my P bass! A slight change on the ol' EQ onboard the bass and it sings, change again and its almost piano like. I never got that variation from any other string at all. Also using 50-110
10. Spoombung always made me giggle.
11. Flimsy is the last word i wouldve used to describe line6 by a longshot. Also a studio 110 would cover every base because u can plug the amp into a pa and not turn off the amps speaker. Also light!
12.
http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/Squier-Vin...-Jazz-Bass.html http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/Squier-Vin...ision-Bass.html http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/Squier-Vin...aguar-Bass.html Is this going to be Fender's OLP i.e. too good for the price and stops people buying the higher end - if this is £300 (maybe £450 including the bridge/PUP/tuner modifications you'd want to make) surely it'll trash the MIM market (if that exists anymore)? If Classic Vibe/Vintage Modifieds are such good value, so well crafted etc then why is a MIM at twice the price not twice the guitar? - leaving aside country of origin and brand name. In reality Fender surely need to look at the £500-£750 range and make them really worth it (like CIJs - why aren't they easier to get??????).
I paid £350 for my MIM new...
13. A huge thanks to Steve! Owe you a pint mate!
14. Ta muchly, PM sent my good sir/
15.
I actually like that! Mind you I have terrible taste!
Well now it has a nickname!!
16.
It's a lefty
Ok you can keep it Does it say "Yellow Sub-Machine"? *Gets coat
17.
And turns out I did Ebony Board and I changed the nameplate a bit but what it will now say remains a secret!
Your welcome! Does it now say "This was going to be maple but Charic changed my mind so I'm giving this bass to him" ?
18. I would've put an ebony board on it instead I think. Offset to the yellow you know?
19. Hey, Does anyone have a basstab for the Aynsley Lister Band - Soundman? I cant seem to dredge one up! I might have to work it out!!!!
20. The Dingwall J was probably the nicest bass I have ever played. Hurt so much putting it down again. I know exactly what I would buy.
21. Theres a tab on ultimate guitar not sure how accurate it is though. Sounded alright to me in the past. Fun bassline to play btw!
22. You're probably too close too your speakers.
23.
+1 I ordered two from them and they were both pretty shocking. I never sent it back or complained, but based on your experiences, it wouldn't have done me much good, so I'll settle for spreading the love instead.
+1 Got one of their light up ones... They said it would fit a Pbass fine with no additional routing.... Couldnt fit the damn battery in!
24. Happens more on keyboard than guitar/bass lol. I think it is purely because these are my particular favourite chords and I love the sounds of them together. As soon as I stray from them on keyboard though I struggle to get inspired.
25. Put an interesting pic on there to make it more noticeable.
