Hey guys,
Hoping someone here will have some suggestions because for whatever reason I seem to get stuck playing in the same set of chords whenever I sit down at any instrument. Not as bad on bass/guitar as it is on keyboard to be honest. I think this is because bass and guitar is much more playing by instinct for me in comparison to playing keyboard. This is most probably down to the fact that I have been playing keyboard for... 18 years (im only 23!).
Does anyone have any suggestions? Its not as bad when I am playing with someone else who is writing however whenever I sit to write by myself I seem to get stuck in the same position everytime.
So yeah... HELP!!!
The obvious question that seems to be missing at the moment is:
what the budget?
Personally I don't get on with Ibanez, I want too as I think theyre lovely looking but they dont feel right too me.
Budget?
I tried out a load of keyboards recently in the 600ish bracket, I was quite underwhelmed by the keyboards if I am honest. I ended up saving for a bit longer and spending nearer 500 on an m50. Sounds are great whole load of basses, so maybe the x50 if your looking at less than that.
If your newish to keys then I recommend picking usability over sounds tbh
Just an attempt to be helpful but seeing as your learning check out some megadeth basslines. Some are quite complex and some are very simple but they all hold the fundamentals to great basslines, just a few from when I started out:
A toute le monde
Angry Again
I also got in rancid/offspring in a fairly big way as it was a bit off the beaten track, punk is a great way to learn metal basslines imho
I ALWAYS play on the heaviest gauge strings that I can get hold of and tend to use a heavy pick to go with it.
1.14 brain picks. Orange ones in a tin. They tried stopping selling them and I was gutted and actually stopped going to the store until they got some more in!
One of two, my friend. I can't stand most Tim Burton films, particularly the animated ones.
+ my girlfriend despises his films
Recently at a band meeting we were discussing megadeth (all of the band are megadeth fans) and I stated that Ellefson is still one of my favourite bassists and I prefer him by a longshot compared to Lomenzo. Nothing against the chap but I just prefer Ellefson. To which I was shouted at and called an idiot as well as being told "thats why your the keyboard player".
Nothing to do with the fact that I didnt audition for the bass part as it was already taken then??
I thought I would see if I'm alone on this planet in preferring good ol' Dave.
Post your votes people!
Best customer service for me has to be a place in cambridge called arena music.
Absolutely and totally friendly, on a weekly basis I went in asked if I could try out a specific bass and they even knowing that I wasnt looking to buy (as I had been in before) always asked if I wanted to just help myself and set myself up or whether I needed a hand. A while back I went in to be a Warwick Corvette that I had been trying out there for ages. Slightly more pricey but not OTT, when I got there it had been sold the day before. Gutted
But as a seperate site attracting guitarists would be a bonus. If they were then to join here it would be as they also have an interest in bass.
More bassists on basschat = win
more guitarist on guitar forum = win
I think i see where golchen is coming from to be honest. Basschat still being basschat as it is. the best way I see things going would be a sister site for basschat. Guitarchat would have been an ideal name but im sure we come up with others.
Www.skinnystringers.co.uk anyone lol
To all you photoshop wizards... I have to say Id quite like to see a hitlercaster... I believe in you
Hubrad, If your parents don't get Wallace and Gromit simply get them drunk then force them to watch it again.
It still wont make sense.. but it will be a hell of a lot funnier!
It's an excellent idea.
We could even rebrand the site to say
Basschat.co.uk The home of deep discussion! And for those who play other instruments, who cannot be bothered to set up their own forum.
Ducks and walks.
Haha... well I have considered setting up guitarchat but then... Im a bit crap at guitar to be admin of a guitar site lol!
