1. A waiting time of 6 months? That seems a bit different to what i usually hear
2. Thanks for a great lesson Nick, I was quite surprised you took such a liking to my bass considering your "ample" collection. I was quite shocked about the sound of the markbass, quite different to what I remember. Ive been working on those scales and my technique already See I didnt tell them your secret, I told you I wouldnt
3. The idea of bypassing the soundman is generally a goodone when possible. Mic'ing basscabs live can also be a devils art in itself. Especially in a small stage big room situation. If you can avoid mics live why not, The pod is a good bet but alot of people really dont like all that fiddling, I do like the fiddling and still passed it on as when I listened I noticed digital artifacts in the mix. However the DI out on the LINE6 lowdown series is fantastic, as is the DI on the Guitar amps. Also a good point made about the optimum listening point, if able to pass through the PA = more of a spread (and we all know bass is meant to be felt deep down in your guts!).
4. Just so you know you can easily find mim pbasses for 350 new. Digital village used to be, dont know about now. As is soundslive.
5. The passive input is designed to bring passive basses upto a similar vol as an active. Gives it a bit of a boost. The active input doesnt do this.
6. not yet it aint? What were your impressions of each, could be useful to others
7. I based my dissertation on microphone placement, it really does make a huge difference to frequency content. Much more subtle changes than anyone i know could be bothered with, however the subtlety is across the entire spectrum so it makes a fair difference audibly. Personally I love the AKG D112 close centre mics (about an inch off centre of cone). With a Neumann TLM103 or similar about 6ft back from the cab. Still central to the cone though.
8. I have to say the TRB1006 is an amazing instrument. Cant say ive seen a left hander though. Sorry
9. It sounds like you know what you want and with a budget that large I have to ask would you mind going custom? I know theres a wait but all the little tweaks you would need to make it special would be there at your fingertips everytime. Depends how patient you are aswell
10. If its any help the last time I turned my amp up to 3/4 it was in a church. I was promptly screamed at ( i think, i couldnt hear him but he looked like he was screaming) to turn it down. I had a big grin on my face as the roof vibrated, some wood and other random materials fell from the roof and the entire pulpit vibrated. Since then its only ever gone to 1 'oclock. The line6 has the variety of sounds (if you like them) and more than enough volume especially with the DI out which still keeps the Speaker on. Theres better amps out there, lots of them if im honest. Theres better speakers out there too, obviously. However you make of it what you do. If you like it when you try it out, then your sorted
11. The line6 300pro is a beast. The brit and svt sound suit rock well. Theres also and eden sim on there and it has xlr out with cab sim. Give it a try but crank it abit, quiet it lacks abit. If thats 2 heavy try the 110 and plug in2 the pa.
12. I may well take you up on that at some point alex! I have to admit in only glancing at your products at present. However I may organise some proper tests, based on the way my dissertation worked. Ill pm you with ideas later this week. Rik
13. Ok im going to be research the tech 21 pedal i think. TBH a heavy amp wont kill me. ( My combo is 91lbs) its heavy speakers with the awkwardness of carrying that do it. A light 4x10 could be a godsend. Its just a matter of trialing the bloody things in all their incarnations. Should be fun!
14. in a high energy rock band. College and uni are far behind me now
15. hmm line6 amp, svt sim, ampeg cab... I like i thnk. Im a tad tipsy after celebrating getting a place as bassist.
16. Hmm, Gas is striking. Must. . . Wait . . . ACG first! Mmm ACG *drool* Thanks for the advice guys
17. I've tried some markbass stuff before. I found them quite clinical sounding but that was all combo stuff will probably have to look around though!
18. With my acg nigh on complete. My next logical step is an upgrade in amp. Im currently using a line6 300. Dont get me wrong its a great amp but it just doesnt make me go ooooh anymore. I love the svt setting so logic dictates ampeg. However im not sure what else to try or even where. I may wait for the next nearby bash i suppose. I like playing high energy rock and have a keen interest in prog too. Weight is also an issue as my flat is up 4 flights of stairs. Rik
19. theres also the musicman 6 string sillouette bass. Or however its spelt!
20. I'll let you in on a secret ....................................................... I like penguins. That is all
21.
Any bass that doesn't let me play wrong notes, still looking for that one...
That would be rubbish for jazz thought
