2. Band goes on stage, silent count in. Hit them hard, if they're not there already you need to be getting there attention and the best way to do that is to get them thinking "holy **** what am I missing"
 3. Drop in a SSD if you can too just for your C drive
 4. If you want a rounder tone with a pick try playing closer to or even over the neck
 5.
Had a range of feedback, both on the build thread and in PMs, regarding the Psilos build, mostly positive but I appreciate it wasn't to everybody's taste. So if you were to engage the services of one of our many great builders what would you have built? I've included an "other" option for the unforeseen things like a tremolo arm, etc. I think I've covered everything, let me know if there's anything I missed and need to add. 6.
No, to my ears the mix of metal - or any rock for that matter - and classical is a total abomination and praps a cynical ploy by those metallers trying to seek approval from the CM community. I enjoy a good old bit of unpretentious thrash and groove metal but symphonic metal is too much too swallow
Well I won't be sharing my new material with you then!
 7. You'll probably want a 16 channel interface but you might be able to manage it with 8 channels if you can work within the contraints, you'll either need to overdub or do it "live" recording style. In a live recording setup on an 8 channel I would suggest Kick Snare Overhead Left (Or HiHat) Overhead Right (Or Close Overhead for Toms) Guitar 1 Guitar 2 Bass Vocals It all depends what you want to do and what your budget is!
 8. One potential flaw here is the amount of noise you're firing directly onto the stage where there are mics. Particularly in the drum area
 9.
Indeed you can, with structures, drum risers and more. The fixtures (lights...) can be placed anywhere, on flying trusses, or side-lit, footlights, balcony spots etc. There's quite a few pics on the Sunlite site that will give some idea. I found it easy enough to use (and I'm a dummy..! ), although it takes a bit of practise to 'tweak' the results once one arrives at the real venue (setting the Dmx channels, correcting tilt/pan angles, retouching gobos and colours...), but we did some mighty fine shows with the stuff, far better than I could have done on an unfamiliar manual console at the time. Fun, too..! Towards the end, I had a lot of the show on semi-automatic, and could allow the software to run, adding manual touches on top. Happy daze.
I'll have a play, cheers!
 10.
I think QLC+ is supposed to support this in the Activity Monitor - 2D View, though I haven't been able to get this working on my Mac - it may work okay on Windows, and I think I've seen it in demos/tutorials on YouTube. It's free so if you're using Windows it might be worth downloading it and giving it a try.
Looks promising!
 11.
Yes, using 'Sunlite', see here ... Sunlite Suite ... ... which has a very good 3D visualiser. I used this stuff for several years with Kiemsa, a punk/rock/ska group, programming their lights at home, then spending the week-end with them doing the show with a laptop. There's now a more sophisticated version; both are free to download and use fully; they need the dedicated DMX box to do the real controlling, but work perfectly well for simulation, including stage layout and props. Worth a look..?
I'll have a look! Can it simulate what a stage would look like too?
 12.
There is software called WYSIWYG - http://cast-soft.com...ighting-design/ but you're going to need some deep pockets. In reality you are probably far better off just buying one or two lights and setting them up so that you can see what is going on during programming. One thing that is not so easy to comprehend without the lights being activated is colour mixing. With RGBW LED units, trying to program the actual colour you would like without physically seeing it is very difficult unless you just want to dial in basic primary colours but then it is a lost opportunity.
That's the basic plan once I've got some pennies Thinking https://www.thomann.de/gb/enttec_dmx_usb_pro_interface.htm?ref=search_rslt_usb+to+dmx_245896_0 and https://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_clb2.4_compact_led_par_system.htm?ref=search_rslt_stairville+compact_349574_0 to start out?
 13. I'm getting tempted to mock it up in some simple animation software
 14.
Making some notes would be a good start. It's not going to be easy to program it without the lights. You'll need to look in the respective manuals to find the exact configuration to do that. Having a plan of what you'd like to achieve would be a good start though
I'm not trying to program it yet, just visualise the changes and as I'm planning on sending all of the messages instead of using preset modes (not planning on using inbuilt chases etc) I figured there must be a tool for it
 15. Any way to do this? Basically I want to see if I can plan out the lighting show before buying the lights somehow, thinking of controlling it all through Ableton live lite along with a backing track
 16. I just found it quite jarring
 17. This seems pretty good in your budget? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/307907-gl-l2000-tribute-blueburst-only-l275/
 18. My thoughts too on the mag connection and if it does get snagged it'll just pull off instead of just pulling you back and you'll lose your mix....
 19.
You've got a point there but you've forgotten the golden rule of music telly presenting - never criticise anything!
I'm guessing you've forgotten Beavis and Butthead
 20.
Would this be a good time to roll out the over used "When Doves Cry" witty reply? For me, I will have the opening piano bars of Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen wrote the song for the inauguration and unveiling of my birth and it stayed at number one in celebration of my arrival in the world. God (John Deacon) was looking over me.* *ok, I made that bit up. The song was at number one when I was born.
Better than my birthday #1 if I remember correctly... bloody banarama
 21.
Just a bit of jesting from folks, I think.
Definitely, everyone knows C&W players aren't going to get their heads around R AND 5th. One or the other at a stretch
 22. Have a look at bandzoogle, I set up our site there in about 3 hours http://www.sincerelyyoursuk.com
 23. If you fancy avoiding a laptop you could look at something like a roland SPD ONE or BK7. I know the SPD one will put the click track to a separate feed for you too (don't know about the BK7 though)
 24.
Helix LT is looking very enticing, especially as I am gigging with In-Ears more and more. Shame I don't have two buttons to my name to rub together right now. Looks like a nice piece of kit in reviews.
How is it we always end up going down similar paths gear wise
