1. Oh and here's an action shot at my first audition with them
2.
Learn and live on!
Remember to check your sent items too
3. I've just been made the bassist for a "new" band. They've been going for about a year or so sorting out the tunes and now they're ready to gig they've been auditioning musicians. They're all great guys and for the first time I genuinely see a hope of there being "something" with these guys. Anyway, enough blabbing... I'll let the tunes speak for themselves : I present : https://www.youtube....h?v=EWo-qSk_AVI https://www.youtube....h?v=wwLRhAg2lrE http://faintlines.com/ https://soundcloud.com/faintlines https://www.facebook.com/faintlines
4.
Actually, I have a great Robert Palmer story. I had to get a dep for a gig a long time ago (15 years) and I called a guy with some considerable pedigree (no names this time). I introduced myself.... Me 'Hi there. My name is Robert Palmer and I need a dep' Bass Player 'Not THE Robert Palmer' Me 'No' Bass Player 'Good. He's a tosser'.
You should write one of your biographies about him! Robert Palmer by Robert Palmer How many people would put it under AutoBiographies?!
5. I think its because you 'lead' with your plucking hand maybe?
6. I'm looking at the possibility of selling off my MIM strat and getting myself a BC Rich Mockingbird (possibly changing out the pickups at a slightly later date) and was wondering if anyone here had opinions on the BC Rich STQ? Looking for something higher gain than my strat and a little more suited towards the metal genre
7.
and he was of course one of the incredibly rare performers who actually used a L/H instrument.
He must have picked up a left handed tennis racket
8.
I think we'll need to create a list of criteria we can test against - pretty sure most people will be able to differentiate between a pick and fingers though. Whether they can differentiate between each brand and model played with pick/fingers may be a different matter..
Yeah I meant more of a this is bass A being played with fingers *plays riff* and now with pick *plays riff*... can you guess what bass it is. Kinda way
9.
OK, so here we have people who say the plucking hand should not be perceived as the dominant one; therefore lefties can play a righty instrument with their "better" hand in the correct place. Yay. So,why isn't that true of righties then?
Because there's no one making basses for us so we learn the other way! *runs away
10. Yeah sounds good to me! Could each bass be played with and without pick? I'm a pick user myself and I'd be interested in the differences between differences there too
11. You should have people guess whether it's maple or rosewood while they're at it
12. Aye, same rig, cab and settings but what rig, cab and settings would you like to run? do we got for the classic ampeg rig? Or do we go flat DI into a PA? Etc
13.
What I'd like to do is list all the P Basses on a prepared sheet of paper, for them to be played (preferably all by the same person to take that out of the equation) and see how many people can actually "guess" correctly which is which. Hopefully will fuel the debate whether it is actually worth spending mega bucks on gear or whether your less expensive models can do the same job at a reduced cost...
The choice of amp/cab could be quite important as you want something quite full range to be able to tell the difference. Happy to lend my Hartke Kilo for the amp if you want? My Berg cab is quite coloured sounding though
14.
As part of this day I'd like to do a blind test of, say, Precision basses - everything from your £99 bass models to your hyper models and see if people really can tell the difference. If you own a P bass, irrespective of the brand/cost please bring it along..
What catagory would you like to put my Fender MIM P bass, with 1/4lbs, BA2 bridge and Shuker neck?
15.
If it was just all about the music CDs and records would come in plain white sleeves with the artist name and song titles in some anonymous font. Live performances would be conducted with an opaque curtain separating the performers from the audience.
Btw, not arguing with you and the above actually is a pretty clever piece of marketing but your post made me think of this
16.
I'm amazed as their reputation is usually pretty solid.
would you say its 'Roq'solid?
17. I have little to contribute other than to say I've got a riff that I wrote in 19/16
18. Are they vst only out of interest? I'm running on protools. Messing around with gtr3 demo earlier and it does sound brutal indeed!
19. What software modellers are you all using? I'm considering getting rid of my line6 spider4 as it rarely gets used and I'm unlikely to ever gig on guitar. I use ProTools as my DAW, the Eleven software seems a bit steeply priced although bloody good from what I'm seeing. Waves GTR3 on the other hand looks amazing at a fairly respectable price. Failing software modellers are there any decent relatively cheap rackmount modellers for studio use? Or would a pre-amp be a good way forward? Mostly it's for metal sounds. Talking of which I've either got to mod my guitar or swap that out too
20. No problem mate, if you ever have any questions feel free to drop me a line
