As i say, i like PC's, i like macs. I just get annoyed when people just make stuff up to bolster their opinion, founded or otherwise. It just isn't helpful to anybody.
I think the reason we're getting this discussion is that you are coming across very firmly in the mac camp mate. Personally I use a PC, I've put it together myself and it's solid as a rock (relatively cheaply too I might add, I think total cost is currently at £600 although a new motherboard and graphics card is on the cards at some point). I think that macs have their place if you like their workflow. I'm not a huge fan but I can use them. I find macs a little more fiddly to troubleshoot and you're less likely to have that essential "mate" who can just pop over and have a look with a mac. I'd be interested in seeing your list of pros and cons with each type of system. I do think though that if you know your PCs a little then you can make a mac spec computer much cheaper than buy one off the shelf
Hi all, anyone know of any rooms with a piano in I can record in for 5-7 days towards the end of Sept? Anywhere near Bristol or London doable. Don't need any other gear in there other than power. The better sounding the room and piano the better but will consider anything at this stage. Does need to be a quiet room though.
I'd suggest asking around the local unis/colleges?
Given the timescales involved, why not just hold off on changing strings until you have the time to do it "properly"?
Good plan

So how do I list something for sale then?
No idea Can't hurt to have a look see.... If not do your mix in protools, then load the two track into reaper with a k-meter get to get the final level right
Nah, I won't be putting Reaper on my system. I'm not a fan of the software and I don't fancy cluttering up my computer for no reason . Doesn't look like they have a RTAS or AAX version so it won't work for me

Lets not get personal please
Download Voxengo Span, its free and fully implements K-Metering
Does it work with ProTools?
At the time I was looking for my ultimate fretless. I had seen the Shuker Artist Bass on his website and exchanged some emails with him. When I finally got to play one at Bass Day in Manchester (IIRC) I was completely underwhelmed. I tried some other models to see if it was maybe that one particular sample that didn't suit and they all had the same very ordinary, and for me, quite difficult to play. It's a while back now but my main impression was that they just felt awkward and uncomfortable. It was the same with all the Shuker basses that I tried, so it must be something to do with the way he makes them that simply doesn't suit me - and TBH I'm one of the least fussy players when it comes to feel of an instrument. I played a Marleaux bass the same day which I would have bought if I'd not forgotten to put my new CC in my wallet instead of the one that had expired!
Ah fair enough, sometimes certain brands just don't suit people. Ibanez for example for me. Still not found one I feel comfortable on.
-
Go and play some Shukers first before parting with any money. They get a lot of love on here, but I couldn't get on with any of his basses that I've tried.
That's the first time I've heard that, now you've got me curious Was it something particular that didn't work for you?

Sorry guys, I think Dingus just won the thread with 'just make sure its not ex show stock'
The fact that his basses are Fender clones is neither here nor there.
I think it makes one difference, the amount of competition. There's a lot of people out there making fender clones afterall
I find it quite pathetic the lengths people who obviously have their dream instruments from A-C will go to to defend the brand, even in the light of this obvious cock up/screw job.
People get loyal to a brand and knowing a the builder personally will definitely put a skew on how you feel about something like this. Lets try and stay objective please
-
I actually think the thread is doing a good job of staying fairly objective. People are commenting on what has been said and shown rather than making sweeping generalisation. The problem is Jimmy didn't represent himself very well at all. He was doing much better in my books before he decided to comment. IMO just a targeted response covering each of the points raised would have been the way forward. It's good that he's agreed to refund but he even managed to turn that into a bad thing with the quip about the bass being "legendary" now so it'll sell for more. I think the only thing we all need to remember here is that we're all posting our opinion of what has happened. My opinion of AC and particularly Jimmy has diminished significantly in all of this. I hope it all gets made right and maybe we see a more calmly thought out response from the luthier in the near future.

Once my internet is back up and running I think I'll be up for this one. Really fancy putting the new system through it's paces

I've only listened to the 1st track so far as I'm saving the rest for driving and the gym where I can listen properly
