Acoustically the kick sounds very nice, it's got all the thwack I want, but getting that through the PA does seem like guesswork. Sometimes I get it, others I spend ages fiddling and still don't. Just to be clear, when describing where to set the mids, I have a mid level and mid sweep. Are you guys suggesting I pull back on the mid level for the scooped sound, and keep the sweep somewhere in the middle of the range?
Boost Low Mid Sweep High Mid Level Med High High Level 12'oclock OR Boost Low Mis Sweep Low Mid Level Low High Level Med - High I think....
All the theory is telling us is whether it conforms to the tonality of Fmajor, you ear tells you it sounds good (or not, but in this case IMHO it sounds very nice). If it was a D minor chord, played in that inversion, you would have an F natural, but substituing the F# gives voice leading in the chord roots of F, F# (in D maj triad) to G assuming the other chords are in root position.
Good point about ear versus theory Not all chords are in root though : Gm : G Bb D Cm : G C Eb F : F A C D : F# A D
In the context of F major, Gm Cm F D can be thought of as II-v-I-VI first three chords are close a ii-V-I progression (change Cm to C7 by raising the Eb to E natural and addind a flat 7th (Bb)), and changing the Dmaj to Dm would give you the vi chord in Fmajor, so what you have is a modified vi-ii-V-I turnaround (a common progression), which (I assume) your cycling round, but starting on the ii.
Ok, but shouldn't that D chord sound terrible in theory? Being played on a keyboard F# A D btw (it's all based on chord triads).
you havent stolen the carlos santana secret chord progression have you?
I have no idea what you mean Chord progression is : Gm Cm F D If someone can tell my why it works I'd appreciate it

You could try going for a cross between the square and barrel? Like an elongated semicircle, flat at the bottom and curved at the top

Any keys dabblers recommend a board for function band gigging?
charic replied to mike257's topic in Other Instruments
Actually it might be worth checking out the Korg X50, I'm not sure how it compares to the Triton but I believe it's a simplified M50 which is what I have. -
Has anyone read the Darrin Huff thread on Talkbass?
charic replied to Stacker's topic in General Discussion
I think I've worked out his construction technique. Plant seeds for trees. Get tree to grow into correct bass shape. Job done -
i'm just going to do it as the loner i am
Well we have to make it fair
Rope 'em in! The more the merrier. Bilbo mentioned doing something similar with his trio... I think it's a great idea. I'm not in a band myself so the closest I can get to it is through collaborating online. Quite a different process but still good fun.
Nah not one of my bands, these guys are just friends. Acoustic guitarist and a classical singer lol
No, no, no, I will beat... oh wait Actually I'm collaborating with Mike (urb) this month, so we're like a Mexican wrestler tag team. Double trouble!
I may call in a couple of friends for this piece. We were jamming in the living room the other day and I came up with a chord progression which by all theory shouldn't have worked sounded great though.
im going to do this, and i will beat SKOL
No you won't I will beat Skol!
My vote for transparent cabs would be Barefaced. I think amp-wise, on all-flat settings, the most transparent amps I`ve used were the TC Classic 450, or Markbass LMII.
See I wouldn't put the TC's in the transparent category. With that 6k knock off I thought it was pretty coloured. Markbass I would probably agree with
I'm looking for a transparent amp / cab combo that will faithfully reproduce the patches on my Zoom B3. I play off backline with two 'half-stack' equipped guitarists so it needs to be fairly loud. I currently run a Hughes and Kettner Quantum 600 which has quite an aggressive tone into a Schroeder 21015 which abounds with low mids. Any recommendations?
Power amp and a barefaced probably.
...wow that's great, innit! I might stack them up and listen from top to tail next time I'm doing the decorating, or whatever. Be interesting to hear how we've all evolved in that time.
Once we hit a years worth I'll explore the option of throwing an album together

For simplicity probably Roland or Yamaha. For features Korg IMO -
Skol303, won last months composition competition and has kindly submitted the picture below for the 8th composition competition. Did you know 75 tracks have been submitted since last September? Assuming an average track length of 4 minutes that's 300 minutes (5 hours) of music! Well done to everyone who's participated so far and also a big thank you to everyone who takes the time to listen and vote Picture time! Usual waffle : A picture will be posted by the previous months winner to act as inspiration for that months piece. The piece should be no more than 5 minutes long and should be composed and recorded in the same month as the piece in question. To be clear, any instruments / sounds can be used although copyright should be followed for obvious reasons. Also Basschat T&C's should be followed within the actual recording so : [i]6.
