1. Still available, tell your guitarist his life would be complete with this guitar So, still looking for a bass, if anybody is interested.
2.
What happens if you play guitar AND bass though ?
Puts hand up. I think about this sort of stuff and only this morning had a conversation to the effect that it doesn't matter a feck really. I think we were talking in relation to acoustic guitars and preamps and true acoustic tones being quite difficult to achieve and my whole thoughts are that most of your audience will either i) not give a toss or ii) won't notice when the band kicks in anyway. I have true bypass effects not because they're true bypass, but because they just happen to be true bypass - I have a set of Harma Cryo preamp valves in my Mesa - not because of the tone they help to produce, but because the bloke I bought the amp off put them in there. I did put a Celestion in my Laney, but that was mainly because the original speaker just sounded a bit - well - crap really. Never stop thinking about this sort of stuff, because at the end of the day, it gives us all something to talk about
3. E is a top bloke and has made some nice stuff and some other bits and bobs. I have a tiny little box which is basically a jack in and out which I can mount on the underside of the riser and use it to start my chain with any of the pedals and leave them in the position they are in. He's done some good clones for mates of mine and rebuilt a BYOC pedal that had been badly soldered in the first instance
4. Col sent you a PM earlier, did you get it?
5. That's a clean boost I had made by E-fects - www.e-fects.co.uk. Boosts my clean sound or if I turn the gain up, drives my valve amp.
6. We have a similar problem with the singer's mic picking up the kick drum and we're using Shure Beta 58As (hyper cardiode I believe). Doesn't happen very often, but seems to be when the singer is stood right in front of the drums
7. I'll stick (pun intended) with the Wilko's contact adhesive - it's done exactly what I wanted it to do
8. Wilkinson's contact adhesive in a tube (£1.49) appears to be very good at sticking down pedalboard carpets!
9. I never ever got a response to my email to GB, nor did they answer their phone or respond to my answering machine message, so they can bugger off as far as I'm concerned. I think the best place to get them is that effects power supplies and I will be ordering some in the morning when I can be arsed to go downstairs and pick up my wallet off the top of the fridge I have a couple of the longer type installed at the moment to see if I get a more reliable connection that the George L's I have been using, but the longer type mean the set up takes up ever so slightly more room than would allow for an extra pedal on my board, so will be switching them and adding a delay.
10. Quick bump for heavily edited 1st post and changed requirements. thx
11. What's your sale price Col?
12. Oh bugger that's lovely. I could make use of that!
13.
So great customer service, but poor quality control?
No I don't think so, I've been using D'Addarios for years - phosphor bronze on my Acoustic, lots and lots of sets of XLs for electric guitar and a set of half rounds on my Precision - never had a problem with a set until I tried these banjo strings and had no further problems with the replacement set. I had a set of Rotosound flats, one broke out of the pack and another was dead - again the only problem I've had with Rotos, but issue sorted quckly by Rotosound and was very happy - wouldn't stop me buying either Rotosound or D'Addarios in future
14. D'addario UK (or their distributor) are very good. I had a set of their banjo strings and one of the loop ends unwound and broke when I was fitting them - I emailed them and they sent me a new set - good lads.
15. I'd like to be first in line to buy on July 11th please!
16. +1000000 for Hercules - also the foam padding on them is guaranteed to be nitro friendly - apparently. I can't say I've had a problem with any of my nitro finished guitars (Gibsons mainly) but have had a couple of guitars that had been left on rubber coated stands by their previous owners and it had knackered the finish at the contact points with the stand.
17.
To save me reading all 9 pages again... is there a simple, cheap way of having this moulded plugs made to take the music output from a phone (as well as being hearing protectors)?
No. Or at least I don't think so. I did ask a question about removing the filters and fitting a set of earphones into these, but the opinion on the previous page is that the integrity of the mould may be comprimised if you keep removing the filter and refitting (as well as fitting your earphone). Again, I see the options are fairly limited and understand there are some Sennheiser IEMs that will fit into the mould, although I don't know how, and another company sells the adaptors that take the place of the filter for an Etymotic ER6 for a fiver - the ER6s will cost you another 60 quid or so. HOWEVER (and I write this in capitals as it excited me!) Comply foam tips are available for the ER6s, which also fit the following: # Griffin - EarJams - TuneBuds # JVC - HA-FX300 # Shure - E2c - E2g - i2c - SLC2 - Quietspot QSHB3 - Quietspot QSHB4 - Quietspot QSH13 Which would lead me to suggest that these would also fit into the adaptor used for the ER6 - but don't hold me to that in case they don't - but again, these aren't going to be cheap. I have a set of Denon AH C551s with some comply tips which not only stay in my ears but provide enough isolation to be able to sit on a plane or train and listen to my iPod on half volume. Not cheap, but very good. If you've use ER20s or similar, get some CX300 sennheisers from play for 13 quid and they should stay in your ears with the tri flange bud thingy they have and you should also be able to find an adaptor to connect your 3.5mm jack to the Samsung mini USB connection.
18. I got my Er15s on Friday and I'm very impressed so far - not had a chance to use them with any volume but am amazed at how much detail they let through compared with the Er-20s. I would consider buying the adaptors and a set of ER-6s and using them with my iPod, but I don't know if continually removing and replacing the filters will end up damaging the mould
19. I think I will be going for a Megger when I get round to it. I have heard the Kew Tech ones are alright, but a bit budget, if that makes sense
20. PM'd - ignore stupid question, but interested nonetheless
21. You can get ER-25s in custom moulds that will cut 25db and cost you about £160. You can also get moulds made for shooting or biking or industrial use that cost about half that (because you don't have to buy a filter) and will block pretty much everything, but as Chris says, if the effect of the moving air is physical and that starts to affect your ear function then it won't matter what you wear.
