Ah yes, I should mention we often play gigs without PA support for the drums or amps, so these 5w valve amps probably aren't going to cut it?
I am currently using a Matamp Minimat in the house (small head - 4 watts which scales down to about 1/4 watts if necessary) and I gigged on Saturday night with my Mesa Express 5:50 switched to 5 watts - it was still too loud!

Thursday: Shoite - pap monitoring, missed most of my cues/played the wrong stuff/played at the wrong time. Very happy when it was over. Saturday: Dreadful atmosphere, some stupid div woman who i) abandoned her car in the middle of the junction because she wanted to talk to somebody and blocked the entrance to where we wanted to load in ii) then stood exactly in the way of where we needed to go when we wanted to load out. Dep drummer + not enough rehearsals and it was a bit patchy. Sounded alright though!

Oh flippin heck, it took me ages to learn all that I suppose it would make sense to be a hybrid as to knock out 500w would take what, 10 KT88s? That would be one very large and probably very heavy amp!
-
I believe (having learned on this forum) that it doesn't matter, so long as you connect the right impedance cabinets to the right output - I'm assuming the amp will have 4, 8 and 16 ohm outputs - you should in theory get max power with any of those but you must connect the right impedance to the matching output. I am prepared to be corrected

No noise problems here from any of the 2 or 3 set ups I've used Diago Powerstation with. Apparently you might get a few noise issues with Line 6 pedals, but I believe that is because the pedal itself is not very good at power filtering.

We had a feckin huge 8k rig - 2 tops, 2 mids, 2 bottoms, 3 amps, crossovers, EQs - the rack case took 3 big blokes to lift it out of the van, which we didn't own, so it made carting it around a pain in the arse. We pretty much only require a vocal PA most of the time and bought a pair of RCF 722A powered speakers - 750w each, with 500w to the 12" and 250w to the 2.5" compression driver. The clarity is fantastic and they are proper full range speakers too it seems and only 18kg each.

I don't have a threshold, but if I decide I want a particular guitar or a bass and I have no free cash to go chasing one, I'll look at what I can move on to make the money to buy what it is I want. If something hasn't been out of a case in 6 months, that's usually a pretty good reason to get rid.
-
It's money in the bank - if you don't need the money, don't bother selling any of them. If you've got stuff you don't want and would prefer something else, then sell what you don't want/need and spend it on another instrument (or something else you want that preferably won't lose any value in a hurry). Don't sell stuff and the piss the money up the wall on boozing or bills or day to day living. Other than the initial outlay of a guitar or bass, I haven't actually spent any actual money on instruments in 18 months because I've been able to sell what I wasn't using and reinvest it in other stuff. I combined the proceeds of four instruments into my Martin HD-28V and the proceeds of another two into my 335. I'm probably going to have to start again soon and put some of my own cash into buying something if I need/want it, but if you can play an instrument without it actually costing you anything out of your regular budget, that's got to be a winner.
I don't believe Noel Redding signed all these basses 'cos he's dead isn't he? Mind you, he died relatively young and I do believe he was survived by an uncle who lives in an attic room somewhere and perhaps he is responsible for the signatures.
He only died in 2003 and he had a pub in Clonakilty that had bands on at the weekend (his own band played on a Friday I think, can't remember - anyway), I suppose it's feasible that people in for a pint or to watch or play in bands could have got him to sign their gear.

Paddocks is supposed to be nice - is that the one out Melton way (sort of around Six Hills?) There's Dojo and Quad in Leicester city centre.

I know this is partially covered in the earplugs thread and I've sort of looked at it on the thread I started that Dood replied to, but has anybody used the ACS T15 monitors? These are the monitors that are designed to plug straight into the ER9/15/25 custom moulds, in place of the filter (no adaptor required as is the case with the Etymotic drivers). I'm just wondering how they compare to another set of earphones (which is presumably what you hear the music through from your wireless receiver and could be substituted with earphones from any brand). I'd like to be able to use these not only as a monitoring system, but for portable audio as well and wondered what the quality was like? They're about £99 from blueplug.co.uk, which is about the price of a mid-high set of earphones.

Monitors for moulded earplugs
john_the_bass replied to john_the_bass's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hullloo! You'll be happy to hear that if you get in touch with Etymotic Research directly, you can buy a set of adaptors for their standard moulded plugs that allows their very own 'off the peg' in ear monitors to fit in your moulds. However, in my experience, you may be better off getting a set that are properly attatched (encased) to the moulds, so they dont pop out whilst you are in mid performance. There are also companies (like adcom services if they still exist) that can create moulds for your ears to fit monitors of your choice. (I have also seen they do ones that fit standard ear bud ear phones too.) In the meantime.. try these.. the sound improvement on a set of standard Sony EarBuds was just brilliant! I ordered the custom moulded ER-15s today so will looking into getting the adaptor. -
Well I had arranged to go into Boots and see one of their David Omerod hearing aid fellas for the free 5 minute assessment. I've worn ER-20s for about 3 years, starting possibly after the damage had been done, and I'd been thinking about the custom moulds for about 18 months. I probably shouldn't have done (money, etc) but I bought a set from Boots in Leicester city centre there and then, for £164.50 including impressions - which is a very strange sensation. Whole thing takes about 10 minutes and then the moulds take 2 - 4 weeks. I know it's the right thing to do, especially as I have a lot more band work this year, but I should probably have held onto the readies until I was in a better position! Incidentally, my hearing was apparently within the normal limit - I have trouble having a conversation in a loud room and can often hear somebody on the other side of the room talking, but not the person directly in front of me, so this came as a surprise. The 5 minute assessment only covers 4 frequencies which are apparently the main speech frequencies.

I'm sure there's a topic out there somewhere, but I couldnt find it when I searched. At some point I would like a set of ER custom mould earplugs. I would then (at another point a bit further down the line) like to be able to remove the filters and replace them with a set of monitors. Which brand of monitor/earphone do I need to use? It would be nice if these had a straight plug as well, so I could use them with my iPod and the ridiculously naff cable management system in two of my coats which won't accomodate a right angled plug.
