1. I have a Jap Fender tele - I've had it from new for a little over a year - I reckon it's coming up to needing a refret soon. Crap really
2. Looks nice - do they only come as semi-solids with f holes in? I don't see why you won't get close to a Musicman sound with it, it has a single humbucker and a 3 band EQ after all, but having never seen one, let alone played one, I couldn't possibly comment on the tone!
3.
Oh yeh, that's the sh*t.
you've got real problems.
4.
So on these facts, the buyer did not buy it on the grounds that it was a custom shop bass, and thus no deceit has taken place in my eyes. Of course I cannot see any personal emails or eBay messages between the 2 of them .
That's what I said in the first place - a quick search in the ebay links page would have turned up the original ebay auction (part of which I quoted) and all of this could have been avoided
Personally, I think there is one person to blame for this whole sorry mess. He'll deny it of course. This man is a menace to society. You have been warned
And as for you, I'll deal with you later...
5. how hard can it be? Undo screws and retaining nut, remove with machine head and replace with something more suitable!
6. I wouldn't touch them - if they're no good to you, you should sell them and replace them for something that you can fit your strings in. You should get a few quid for locking Sperzels
7. I'd have thought so - you can always cut them anyway. I'm guessing you will need the small ball end ones to go through the back of the guitar.
8. check that It may be that you might also need to look at the ones with the small ball end
9. Locking Sperzels eh! You could replace them for something else but you'd probably want to make sure that the string fits through the end first - you might find that the Fender branded Baritone strings fit ok as they presumably went into standard machines on the Bass VI. Nice guitar by the way, how much and where from?
10. If it's an Allparts neck, I'm guessing they turn up without logos on so ALL logos have to be added on by the end user.
11. The original ebay listing described this bass as
This particular bass started life as a limited edition Precision Bass Special, made by Fender USA, which features P/J pickups and a slimmer jazz neck, and has been heavily modified proffesionally [sic] with the following features:
and then lists all the mods that have been made to the bass, including the preamp, pickups, tuners, neck, pickguard, blah. There's no mention of custom shop in the listing. Anyway, it's a nice bass and it's worth what somebody's prepared to pay for it.
12. I bought it before it was released
13. You can't amend it if you have a bid, but you can add to your description. As far as I am aware, you can only amend your ad if you have no bids and more than 12 hours left.
14. hmmm... I think the good Doctor has hit the nail on the head there. Actually, I noticed it more on the USA 2006 Strat I had, in fact if I remember rightly, that looked like it had been lacquered over the frets. I only had it about a week though so I can't be certain.
15. Are the maple fingerboards on Fender basses lacquered over the frets? Mine seems to have been and I noticed that the lacquer's split on some frets. Doesn't make any difference to how it plays, I just thought it was unusual.
16. Cheers Happy Jack, yes I may do just that KoTs - no idea mate to tell you the truth, don't know if it's got a serial either, but it looks nice!
17. nice guitar, good price. I have a GS1 from 1983, bleedin good bit of kit it is too
18. About guitars really but I suppose the same can be applied to basses. I am looking at an Antoria guitar at the moment, specifically a Les Paul and I wondered if any of the JapCrap experts could give me some tips? I know that Antoria was a brand that was owned by JT Coppocks (Leeds) Ltd and was used for guitars imported into the UK from Japan and presumably these were made in the Fuji Gen-Gakki factory (ie them what made Ibanez, Greco, etc). Now I suppose what I want to know is, is there any reason why an Antoria product may be inferior to a Greco branded product of the same period or should they, in theory, be pretty much exactly the same? Is there a comprehensive (or potted) history of JapCrap anywhere online I can have a look at? Ta
19. Well done for waiting all of what? 44 minutes to see how many responses you had? I've no idea who you are or what your music sounds like so I'd be reluctant to put my hand up for it
20. Absolutely agree, but if you say to banjo fixer "'ere, I'm thinking of selling this, what's it worth?" and he says, "oh not much mate, I tell you what, hold on to your £450 and I'll give you a hundred quid" - at least if you ask what it should be insured for, you might get a better idea.
21. Diago - excellent quality and it takes up hardly any space on a board.
22. Ask the banjo works what you should insure it for. That should give you a rough idea of what it's worth
23. Do you know who made it? According to this, there were quite a few people making banjoes around that time.
