1. Cheers guys I have learned that the DOB of the Stingray is 12th July 2002 and it was first sent to Bass Northwest in Seattle. How cool is that?!
2. Nice - good luck with the sale. If I had the readies I would take it off your hands.
3. Hello Any interest in a hercules wall hanger? as new unused? 9 quid shipped? Answers on a postcard (or a PM)
4. 70s ones are apparently variable from nice and light to needing to be craned into a venue - although I've never owned one but there appear to be a myriad of opinions on the subject.
5. I rang them earlier... "Hello, do you have a 20% promotion?" "Er...um...yeah..er..20%..yeah" "Good, what sort of guitar stands do you have" "Er...we don't have....mumble mumble" "You what sorry" "Er yeah we don't have any..." "Right well, are you going to get anymore?" "Er...mumble mumble....dunno" I actually don't know why I rang them, I really don't - well I did, I thought I could get a few quid off a hercules stand, but because the same till jockeys are still answering the phone. If I mention that I'm going to even consider giving them any of my business ever again, tell me I'm talking bollocks. Does Arbiter taking control of half a dozen stores mean that Arbiter distributed goods are going to be exclusively available through Reverb stores?
6. Can I have a pic of the head please? What did you revalve it with (saying "valves" will prompt me to knock £175 off my offer price! )
7. Is that an Ebony fingerboard on Dave's?
8. I like it, but then it doesn't look like a Warwick Wouldn't pay €4k for it - bugger it, I'd probably just about spend €4k on a car!
9. Didn't an Audi V12 Diesel win Le Mans in 2006?
10.
haha, me too! i got all excited and even switched my machine over to kana mode ready to show off my skillz.
I don't know even know what that is but I get the impression that's just sad
11. Cheers Alex, Yes sorry - my simplistic view that the amp "knows" what impedance my cab is was based on V=IR, but I was getting myself confused by that point. So with a valve amp and impedance matched transformers, you'll get the same power if you connect a 16 ohm load to the 16 ohm output as if you connected a 4 ohm load to the 4 ohm output?
12. Right - I'm with you, yes valve amps! That makes sense and I was sorting of thing along the lines of what BOD said, but was wondering if it's the case of what Clasuter said re the rules of impedance and power. edit: I would be interested to know if the same rules apply
13. Right, I've read the this - http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:amps:impedance_and_wattage What I want to know is this. If I have an amp that is rated at say 300w at 4 ohms, and I connect it to a single 8 ohm load then I get, for the sake of argument half of that, = 150w out of the amp? Correct?! So when I connect up a second 8 ohm cabinet either linked to the first one or direct to the amp (in parallel) to make a 4 ohm load in total, the amp goes "oh, 4 ohms - right then, I'll chuck out the full 300 watts). I have no switch or anything to choose 4 ohms load, the amp hypothetically knows it's a 4 ohm load. So if I get the same amp, but this has 16, 8 and 4 ohm outputs (3 separate outputs) and I connect it to a single 8 ohm load, then I still get the same 150 (same argument applies as above). If I want to link a second 8 ohm cab, I have to link from the cab connected to the amp into the next cab and use the 4 ohm output on the back of the cab (ie I can only use one speaker out at a time) and this will give me the full 300w. If I get a single 16 ohm load and connect it to the 16 ohm output jack on the back of the amp, I will get less than the hypothetical 150w at 8 ohms - I don't know what this is a proportion. Am I on the right track here or am I completely confusing the situaion? I knew I should have listened in physics. I think the simple answer is if I use a dedicated 8 ohm output into an 8 ohm load, do I get full power as if I was using the 4 ohm output into a 4 ohm load or does it still scale back the power because it's not running at minimum load?
14. ABM300 EVO-II (or whatever the long name of it is) and an ABM Mini 15 - I bought it cos I could carry the pair in one trip for the fast exits based on the reason of this thread, but I carry it out to the car after last night's gig - about 1/4 of a mile to the carpark, I had to change hands three times - it's still a heavy bugger.
15. It's a good amp for the price. I think my head came from thomann and cost about 89 quid or something and I bought me dad the combo when it first came out (long before the Grainger/Harley Benton copies) and that was only a 1er
16.
The epi amps are awesome but you can buy them under the brand Granger for a lot less money for exactly the same amp with a different tag on the front.
Thanks mate! I've already got mine!! Actually, whilst the Grainger stuff looks identical, I am under the assumption that they must have a different QC process as I'd read quite a lot of dissatisified comments about them, but that may be proportional to the numbers sold.
17. Fudge is on about knackers (?! ) The gig was pap - well, we played alright actually and the sound was very good, but typically there was no-one there, which I think says a lot about Leicester, that signed bands can't draw a crowd. I took my rig in the end and ummed and aahed about bringing it in, but I did anyway (I then staggered back to the car park with it afterwards) and I daresay it made a difference to the sound. Post set, the next band (all looked about 16 and brought their own, drunk. 16 year old roadie) approached me and said, "er..do you have spare bass amp" - well I don't carry spares of things like amps, so I said "no". "err do you have an amp we can use?" and so I did the nice thing and let them use my rig. It f*cks me right off and this is probably why I hate doing these gigs because people never make prior contact (for the record, I emailed both bands on the bill to say, "may I borrow your rig if it's not too much trouble?" and got a response of "Oh, we've split up and we're not coming so can you tell the venue?" and didn't get a response from the other band (who then asked to borrow my rig) to see if they can use your gear. It kind of makes me not bothered about doing any of these gigs for a while, but also the thoughts I had re the band were along the lines that it's too good to kill it and I'd like to have a break from it, but I'd like to come back to it at the end of the summer - possibly with a slightly different line up. I also realised that I'd left the DI box in the footwell of my car (currently being used by Mrs John the bass) and I was using her car - so I couldn't have brought my DI if I'd wanted to!! Oh yeah, and another thing. I occassionally supply a guitar amp for my guitarist because his knackered 70s Carlsbro Stingray should have been chucked in the canal years ago. If I brought my laney combo, he'd have spent all evening fiddling with the knobs so I thought, "right, no knobs for you my friend" (that sounds weird, anyway) and stuffed my epiphone valve junior - 5w! - in the car with a 112 cab. I'm guessing the head runs the full 5w at 4 ohm and I'd run it into an 8 ohm cab, so probably 3w tops. It's got one knob - volume - and didn't even have to run flat out. Everybody should have one of these. It sounds mad through a 410.
18. my mum doesn't know what a DI is
You can have mine John, he's a bit of a c*** mind
Much obliged to you sir!
