1. i know Paul, but I think it's time for a clearout and I've not played it since Octoberish (I think). I wish I'd bought that bloody pickguard as well when you pointed it out!
2. on ebay (finally) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270230374687, but if anybody here wants it drop me a line and I'll pull it for you.
3. i'm not sure they're comparable to be honest Kev, I think if you compared them directly with the equivalent US product of the time (83 in this case), they were supposed to be more consistently good - if that makes sense. Not to say that USA basses of that era were crap, but the QC on these was supposed to be better. It sounds brilliant - it's a little bit more middley to my ears than my USA P with a nice punch, it's miles better than the E serial Jap Fender Precision I had, despite there being only a year or so between production. Build quality is excellent - my assumption is that it's supposed to represent a 62 RI (reverse tuners, threaded saddles, that strap button on the back of the headstock). Everything fits together properly and it's a nice weight - a bit lighter than my modern P. A good bass, but I'm a bit precious about taking it to gigs, so it's sat in a case in a cupboard. I've not played it in a while and I'm sort of assessing the number of guitars/basses I own and thinking about combining stuff for one or two special pieces.
4. i keep saying this is going on ebay and i've still got round to it it'll be on by tuesday, but still available for sale here. still £500 cash in a case (that's the bass, not the cash)
5. it's a piezo one - does that bash the price up any? Piezo with matching headstock, whilst not LE, should make it worth a bit more than a standard ray
6. i've got two. i think when i first started playing bass, it's THE bass i associated with "bass" if you know what i mean i think it's the one tone that fits easily into any style of music (although i'm sure some would argue with me).
7. that's not turquoise is it? isn't that agave blue or whatever it's called? looks nice, dunno if it's a £900 bass - the age of it puts the price up i imagine. is it Fullerton made then?
8. there was a poll a while ago about the colour combos - but i go with what homer says - black/tort/rosewood and black/black/maple
9. yeah I think that's alright for the money, except if it's not you that bought it, you're too late
10.
You're going to a wedding in Cons?
what he said!
11. as far as i can tell having seen a couple in the shop, the double jazz bass humbucking pickup is two separate jazz bass pickups wired together to look like a humbucker (presumably to make a four conductor pickup). I wouldn't imagine that the switch is any different to a normal switch, it probably works as a coil tap.
12. cor i'd like to acquire one as well!
13. we played it for a wedding - in the original key ( I think and i played the fill and octave up (if i rememeber correctly). I could tell you what notes i played if i had a bass in front of me, but unfortunately i don't.
14. possible requirement for a leicester based bassist for an indie band. actually, it's a leicester based indie band, but you can live wherever you want as long as you come to practices and gigs and whatnot Must have reliable gear and transport - PM me and we can have a chat.
15. A band of my acquaintance are looking for a new bass player, they all live in Nottingham and I believe they rehearse there too. They were an established band but have recently had a few problems which has seen them replace a guitarist and bass player - the guitarist is sorted, just need someone for the low end. They have a good few gigs lined up, good promoting heads and, reportedly, some label interest. They're all 20somethings but I don't think they're too arsed about age. If you're interested send me a PM and I will hook you up.
16.
Just to add to my earlier post... I had a friend over today, a pro session musician (guitar & bass). His funk/soul/rock playing is just excellent, really very good stuff. So after listening to him giving one of my basses a good workout; I just feel like giving up... But I know that I mustn't. I've gotta just keep on learning and practicing, getting better slowly. Trouble is, the older you get, the slower you learn (it seems to me).
don't give up! there's probably plenty of things that i should or shouldn't have done, but i don't regret any of them. that's not me being big headed and arrogant, that's me saying, "it's too late to be worrying about all that now". I reckon stuff happens for a reason - if there was something i should or shouldn't have done, it would have happened
17. everybody's different and different instruments (or stuff in general) have different values according to how exclusive or popular they are or how flooded the market is with said item. personally i would say that i'd pay about 60% of shop price max for second hand stuff, (or less - depending on what it was) which differs to several other people on this thread already.
18.
What guitar would I have? That's easy. I'm in the process of selling my guitar collection (Epiphone Sheraton....) I only want two guitars: a tobacco sunburst single-cut Les Paul Jr-type guitar
those Gordon-Smith guitars are such good quality and value for money and don't seem to have mass appeal second hand so you should be able to pick up a bargain second hand. mine! PM me a price for your sheraton!
19. oh bugger, is tomorrow the 30th march? The outlaws have been invited for the day so i won't be able to go out now
20. that's bang on mate - excellent for 5 days work. Can I assume that if you wanted a solid colour or a sunburst or something, it would take a bit longer because the paint and lacquer has to dry?
21.
overwater... sploosh! unless levitation or claims to be the messiah are within your power...
or you could just use a bridge like the rest of us mere mortals
22.
@ john the bass The angry woman was kent area. The music shop in loughborough just seem to be selling cheapo, fake or damaged stock. I'll take a gander in when im back up see if i can confirm this, but theyve certainly tried to sell me a damaged acoustic for full price. Dent and chips all over. Im not sure about the fake fender claim, but it is from a very trustworthy friend/source/ fender fan boy.
i'd be interested to know which fender stuff it is so i can go and have a look meself! not disputing what you're saying at all, but i'd love to have a look! I very rarely go in there, it's such an unpleasant experience and having to step over other people's guitars that have been left lying around for set ups.
