1. check what it would cost you to import a new one from somebody like Ishibashi. A word on the seller - I bought my tele custom from him (John) and found him to be very helpful and generally a top bloke to talk to. I look through his stuff now and again to see if he's got anything I would be interested in as his used prices seem to be pretty good - you could also loook at his other stuff - www.mcguitars.co.uk
2. yeah i saw that in the paper at the weekend and meant to post something about it. looks playable is all i can say, whether it is or not is another matter.
3.
See now my view is that if it sounds good and it isn't doing you medical damage, then play the instrument however you care.
absolutely and I think if any aspiring musicians started worrying about the finer points of technique when they were just starting out enough to be put off by it, that would be a terrible shame. i doubt one member of my band actually displays any learned techniques - 2 of them don't know any music theory at all, but it doesn't stop us writing half decent songs and making good music. i picked up the drums recently and it's made me listen to music differently, made me listen to our drummer differently and whilst it's not made me play the bass differently, it's helped me develop my bass playing. Done nothing for my guitar playing though.
4. "battle of the bands" and it was truly BoB indeed. We came a slightly less than credible 4th, despite being scored second highest by the judges, but the bunch that came down to support us weren't allowed to vote because they turned up late. The buggers. Had to store all of our gear in what was basically an unheated garage at near freezing temperatures because we couldn't keep it in the venue proper. Brought it all on to the stage only for it to be ALL covered in condesation. Bit panicky at switching on my amp and watching it go bang, but it all seemed alright, just hope everything works alright now!
5. collection only though? unless it results in the buyer being mugged for £296?!
6.
.....a Jap version......and much better build quality.
not necessarily. yes they're generally very good and very consistant, but they're not always better than MIA
7. anybody? would like to get somewhere near my microphone this century, so thinking it's a good idea to go for a smaller board and put the E2, loop and AB on the bench.
8. jazz body with rounded edges (like the 60s ones?), precision neck, rosewood board with pearl blocks, active/passive coil tapped humbucker OR twin J style "linear humbuckers", active/passive, coil tapped with parallel/series functionality, 2 tone sunburst and a big tort tele bass style pickguard.
9. At least I think it's an XL Pedalboard! It's very big, looks like this \/ I think I can rationalise my guitar rig down to 9 fx and would like to part with this for something like a diago gigman - I have one already and it's a bit more compact. This one is hexboard and aluminium i assume, it's got a hexboard board inside which i've covered with 4" velcro strips so it's carpeted over the entire area. I've also put another board underneath to raise it slightly for plug clearance. These are £113 + p&p new, I don't know what to ask for it cash wise so would be happy to discuss offers of cash or trades for diago stuff. ta
10. ah that's alright then - if i had one it would probably be used in bass mode only anyway
11. when you throw the bass switch and it cuts a lot of bottom - do you mean into the bass setting or back into the guitar setting?
12. i believe it was the very very early ones - whenever they began production in 82. this one is April 83
13. Anybody tried a nano Dr. Q? Tried searching for one, couldn't really find anything in the forum. Ta
14. I own 18 which takes us to 427 5 of them are used on bass.
15. spotted that earlier - looked like a good buy for a 1er was a bit concerned about the "will sell for £170 ovno"
16. I have that with my band. Actually, if it's not a strat/tele/les paul/sg/335 they struggle to identify them and that goes for their own guitars
17. my reason for taking these off and parting with them is that i thought the tension was actually quite loose - which is what i didn't like about them. they are definitely heavy though
18.
Read the OP. If you read the OP you'll see what I use and I've a big pile of DRs, enough to last me a couple of years. I was just asking out of interest and thought that people on a budget or beginners might be interested also. Just trying to be helpful and surely the "hidden gems" phrase might have given a clue to the fact that I think that most of those brands are sh*t but remain optimistic that maybe some are not.
but with all respect to your OP, you already know what you like and the experience you've had of a particular brand of cheap strings was not a positive one. I would suggest that strings manufactured to a price point are pretty much all the same. For me, cheap strings would be buying rotos or elites in bulk and trying to get them as close to a tenner as possible.
19. yes that makes sense. and had i thought it through properly, i would have been able to come to that conclusion without writing all this! so an "analogue" filter, is a filter which uses analogues processes rather than digital, an "analog filter" is a brand name of a manufacturer's filter but they're both essentially filters - of some description. what sort of sounds do you get with a filter then?
