1. does it crush bits? yeah - but I assume there are a few brands making filters of some kind. Is it essentially the same as an envelope filter?
2. i tell you what, the energy you lads must have expended on tapping out those letters was well worth it!
3. just wondering really if anybody can describe the effect in terms that an idiot could understand. Sounds interesting that's all Cheers
4. spend the extra on a set of strings that will feel better, sound better and last longer - you won't replace them as often either, i bet.
5. remember that the ashdown stuff will probably be loaded with 8ohm speakers and if their combos are anything like their heads, the max power rating will be at 4 ohms - so you'll get less than 180w from a 180w combo, unless you add an 8 ohm extension .....i think.....(see, i'm learning!)
6. To add to the 70s P Bass fund, I am going to part with this guitar. Those of you who don't know what Variax is, it's a line 6 made modelling guitar - 25 different guitars or therabouts ranging from a strat, a couple of teles, ric 6 and 12 strings, les pauls, les paul junior, firebird, couple of gretches, couple of jazz guitars, semis, acoustics and a few silly things like a coral sitar model and a banjo model. I quite like it, but it's not getting used by me - I took it to a band practice and there was so much to choose from that I couldn't make me mind up what to do with it and ended up using my tele instead. This one is red with a white pickguard, has a five way selector switch, volume and tone controls and a rotary switch to select the guitar models. Comes with the power supply required to run it, the stereo cable that supplies power and takes the signal and there's also a nice TGI gig bag that I bought for carrying it around in - in actual fact, it's only left the house once since I've had it. The variax range uses the same electronics across the 300, 500, 600 and 700, so there doesn't appear to be any actual benefit in buying one over the other - the more expensive ones are made out of better quality bits of wood I imagine. I'm looking for £230 which includes the gig bag. I only got it just before Christmas and have given it virtually no play at all - it looks as good as new really. Pics to follow
7. Right, I am going to buy a 70s P Bass this year and to do that I need to sell some stuff. So this bass is going to be sold one way or the other - I pulled it last time when the bass I was after sold before I could sell this one (Pyschoandy's). If it doesn't sell here in the next week or so, it'll go to ebay. The usual stuff - made in Japan in the early 80's, allegedly out of USA parts although mine is a bit later (April 1983) and so may be all Jap - I think the pickups are US - cloth covered wires and what have you - but it's all original and in good nick generally. The pickguard broke last year when i tried to straighten it - it was my own clumsy fault, but it just looks like a bit of a crack when it's on the bass. Don't really know what else to add, frets look alright, it sounds great, cuts through a lot better than my modern USA precision. Currently has a set of Monel flats on (Rotosound 77s) which haven't had a lot of wear. I'd possibly (possibly) entertain offers on my USA S1 Precision (black/black/maple) pictured, but I like how it plays and would ideally like to keep hold of it. I'd actually like to keep hold of this Squier, but I can't afford to keep both and don't really have the space for another instrument without being moaned at. Looking for £500, which includes a case. I don't think that's entirely unreasonably having seen these end in auctions for £530+, probably what I'd aim for when it hits ebay. If anybody wanted to take the JV in part chop for 70s precision, let me know - I'd like a black/black w/maple or 3ts/black w/maple or 3ts tort w/maple
8. i think it might get reverb, chorus and a phaser and that should be plenty. maybe
9. getting there.... now what do i do?!! I think a bit of reverb is in order and something that makes a bit of weirdy noise. I may also take my head rush off my guitar board and put it on if there's room.
10. same here crap (pointless) on a precision, excellent on a jazz - the S1 on the jazz puts the pickups into series and gives them a certain beefiness
11. these aren't completely plastic by the way - these are:
Re-designed for improved tone, sustain and longevity, these stainless steel wound strings have an outer wrapping of black nylon tape. The smooth Black Nylon Tape Wound strings are recommended for fretless electric basses. Their warm string-bass tone sounds great on all acoustic bass guitars.
I hasten to add they sound nice on a fretted, solid body bass as well! guages are 60, 70, 94 and 115
12. taken off the bitsa bass - had about two hours play by me and look to be about new - luke and bassbod have also owned this although i don't know how much play they had they're quite heavy - something like 60 - 115, but low tension and feel very smooth. looking for 15 quid by paypal to pay for the part worn flats i'll be replacing
13. friday's gig was odd 3 band bill, us in the middle - the headliners played a set of half a dozen covers with the front man from the opener. it sort of undermined the rest of their stuff though and i felt it was a bit uneccessary. opening band were mediocre, nothing i'd not heard before, we came on and played the fastest and loudest and i was really happy....until..... "can you play another one?" Sure yeah - only the decision was made to play one of our numbers which is opened tuned on guitar to D and capo'd at the third to open F - only our guitarist spent some time open tuning his guitar badly. Christ it was awful, really quite embarassing. Then the headline act came on, bass player seems to have been drinking heavily and looks like he's about to lose his breakfast - gets off stage, i step in and we do a rock and roll set - which was fun
14. red or black Nick. Rev - I believe they are retailing for about 500 quid - which seems a lot to me
15. apologies if this has been posted before, I did a brief search and couldn't find anything, but my copy of Performing Musician Mag dropped through the letterbox yesterday and there is a small piece on these. Can't say I have any GAS for one, but they look kind of cool - possibly like a Les Paul bass should have been. Any thoughts?
16. *adds one to this year's christmas list..*
17. very nice - that cab looks ever so neat. How big is it roughly?
18. what about worcester? Are Music City and Music 47 still going? Did they turn into the same thing?
