1.
do places like tht do part exchange, not tht im expecting to get much for it
ebay it or advertise on this forum in the sales section i imagine PMT would take it in P/X, but you will get more privately
2.
City Music is just round the corner from Sound Control - go under the railway bridge and turn left and it's a couple of arches down. There's a few along the Smallbrook Queensway, a couple of kilometres away from Sound Control. There's also PMT, out along the ring road a bit. If you go further afield, apart from the Crack Converters (apparently the Kings Heath one is quite good, keep meaning to drop in there), there's the Music Exchange in Stirchley which often has good stuff in. He had the nicest Squier Strat I've ever played in there a while back (a sampler made by a Korean factory when they were touting for business from Fender).
The last time I went back to Birmingham, just before Christmas I think, I did a tour of Crack Converters in Kings Heath (moved, gone downhill and seemed to have very little of any interest), PMT (still the best range in Birmingham), Sound Control (wish I hadn't bothered), City Music (also gone down hill, which is a shame - they used to keep a fair bit of high end stuff once upon a time, but don't seem to - had some G&Ls actually). Music Exchange in Stirchley looks good, but it's always shut when I go past, never been into Fairdeal at the top of the Queensway (near the Selfridges/TK Maxx end of town), but looked in the window. There's another guitar shop in Sheldon on the Cov. Road (I think) and if you want to go out to Solihull, I think there's one there that used to be at the end of Stratford Road in Shirley. I can't think of any others of the top of me head

4. i've got one (the 7 guitar stand - hell it was cheap!) and i've taken it gigging. I've fitted all of the bands guitars on it and found that i can usually put it somewhere within easy reach.
5. my understanding is that steels tend to have a bright tone to them, whereas nickels have more warmth. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I personally prefer nickels - i have a set of these steels in the for sale section if you did want them. I bought them by mistake
6. no worries back when i bought the fenders, i believe i paid 18 quid a set for them
7. i think i've just been playing at a normal sort of level of agression! I've not broken one of these fender strings in months and months, hence i now have three packs
8. how old is it and what's hanging off the master volume knob? has it ever needed servicing or anything like that?
9. i don't think there's a lot in it pricewise - a couple of quid maybe - but diago are out of stock of the plugs now. My plan was to get a board and cable from them, but unfortunately i couldn't! Oh well.
10.
Make sure you get the right angled plugs - the straight plugs aren't much cop... plus don't bother using these for anything but static cables on a pedal board as they are not strong enough to cope with anything else. Good cables for interconnects though. As for that price - looks pretty good. eBay from the States I presume?
no, ebay in the UK so no customs charges. i can save about 3 quid on the price by buying from the states, but there's all the other pitfalls involved in buying from the US. These have the right angled plugs and will only be used on a pedalboard. I would normally go for something like and OBBM or "john_the_bass's dad" special with neutriks on, but the plugs are too big to get close together.
11. by best, i really mean cheapest! I've seen a kit comprising 12 plugs and 10ft of cable for £38 shipped. Is there a cheaper way of buying them and do I need to bother with the strain relief jackets? I don't plan on constantly unplugging these cables, they will live in a pedalboard, plugged into pedals.
12.
Animal
+1! Or Simon Kirke, Moony, John Bonham, Carmine Appice would do our barney is about the best i've played with - myspace linky
13. get yourself some of those hard anodised non stick ones. loads better than teflon ones.
14. pros money regular gigs learning other people's music properly keeps you on your toes no matter how good you think you are money cons: there aren't any
15. i may also try and come along to this. i have an ashdown (which everybody hates ) and a USA precision, a 3EQ stingray, bitsa jazz and a JV Precision, which i imagine everybody else has seen before so i'll leave them at home, unless anybody has any desires to see them! I might bring a guitar!
16. top bloke, sent him a cheque and less than five days later I got a compressor. and answered all of my ridiculous questions and waited around while i made up my mind over it, etc, etc. didn't send me a cup of coffee though, I expect the bloody useless postie would have spilled it.
17. my auld fella has a book called "guitar electronics for musicians" which might still be in print.
18. first come first served although other factors such as money and profile can be something to consider. i play guitar in one band and bass in another so on the two occassions that i've done two in one night, i can send my guitar stuff off to be set up, open with one band and then jump in the car and go to the next gig.
19. I have a set of Rotosound swing bass 66 stainless strings - 45-105. Bought these from sound control just before christmas, but bought the stainless ones instead of nickel and haven't been back to swap them. Offering these at the same price as i paid for them (£14) but including P&P or I'll go back and swap them when i get the chance/can be arsed Also got a set of Fender Super Bass 8250M 45-110TW (the ones with the 110 guage tapered E, the string is tapered down to near the core over the saddle - i suppose they're designed for string through bridges) brand new and unopened. I bought a few sets of these when I was breaking strings regularly, but haven't broken a string in over 18 months. £14 including p&p for these as well. Cheers
20.
Bloody southerners....you're all scared of coming up t'north where there's plenty of big strappin' women to carry yer gear an' beer's still only 4 bob a gallon
i'll come. i take it bass is optional?
21.
Cant see what they offer over the HW-One series. I do like the look of the Maple necked Blizzard Pearl one though.
maple necks. AFAIK you can't get maple on the H1s - they are rosewood only I believe
