1. take your pick mate: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=253
2. didn't the bloke who manages PMT in Birmingham now use to own a shop down on Dale End? What was the name of that shop - I knew half a dozen people who went in there and got some absolute bargains when it closed down.
3. I've got one of these (pics to follow) that I'm not really mad keen on - it's a nice guitar and in good nick. It's the SE (Korean) version in Cherry Red and it's been set up fairly recently - couple of tiny dings, one on the top and one on the back that haven't gone through the finish. These weren't made for long before Gibson filed a lawsuit against PRS for nicking the design and trademark (of the LP presumably) and so they don't make em anymore. Apparently, the electrics were improved slightly on the new models, but the wood used to make these ones is much better. Includes a hard case with keys, so I'm looking for £250 for it shipped within mainlain UK. If you don't want the case, I'm sure we can come to some arrangement. I quite fancy another Epiphone semi-acoustic (but not a dot as I've already got one of them), so if you've got a Casino, Riviera or a Sheraton that you'd fancy doing a swap on let me know - although I suspect that I'd have to put cash towards one of those. I'll get some pics up later.
4.
Hello all... ... Currently running them through a new Trace... 715x...
ahem... Currently?
5. I would say about $80-$100 for USPS, maybe a bit more if the seller uses something like FedEx or UPS. I've seen some crazy quotes of $200+ and just not bothered. Both basses I've bought from the US came in with about $95 electronic stamps on 'em.
6. Martin, is this yours? Buzz, it was the briefest of gasps - I think it could be a job for my old man. I've not got much of a clue when it comes to taking these things apart.
7. howdy the BYOC Beaver that I've had on my board seems to have some difficulty working properly. I think it's had the same intermittent fault since I bought it used - when it's on, the sound (either guitar or bass) is very quiet, almost muted, and there's no distinguishable effect comes out of it, just a lot of low hiss, which gets louder as you increase the volume. I've tried taking it out of the signal chain and putting it back in and that seemed to work, but it just seems to be bummed now. I didn't build it so I've no idea where to start looking at it. Any ideas? Anybody's pedals stopped working in a similar fashion? Is it possible that because the back is loose (it was sent to me with only one screw and I've still not got round to getting replacements), something's shorting or earthing in it? Ta
8. i went out to get some earlier and some tins of spray contact adhesive for a mate to stick his studio carpets down - so i didn't bother buying my stuff and just used that instead. Sprayed it to both the hexboard and the velcro and put it back in place - seems to have done the job nicely! Cheers all
9. i stuck some sticky backed 4" velcro onto the hexboard in my pedalboard and it was alright for a while, but now it's come unstuck. Any suggestions as to how i should restick it or what I should replace it with? I was thinking I would just get some contact adhesive and restick the existing stuff, wait for it to dry and then put the pedals back on.
10. i thought nottingham was supposed to be the gun crime capital of the uk? Do they decide these things in advance, like Liverpool city of culture.
11. That one for £449 will probably be a MiM Dave. The one I wrote about up there is an MIA, I've had an early 80s MIJ which was good, but it wasn't as good as my MIA - the pickups weren't as good and the neck wasn't as nice as the much newer MIA one - but it was still good and they're worth buying if you don't want to spend £££s. I've got a JV squier as well which is really nice - apparently made of USA parts in 83 but assembled in Japan - it's really nice and is every bit as good as my MIA. Didn't think much of my MiM Jazz though, although the MiM tele and MiM strats I've played have all been very good.
12. I bought my precision secondhand from ebay so I bought it blind. I worked on the assumption that they are made out of good quality bits and if there's anything wrong with it, it should be fairly straight forward to sort out. I was very pleased to discover that it needed nothing more than a new set of strings and a set up. I don't know if they're all like this, but mine is post 2000 and whatever, when the models changed and they put the graphite rods in the neck and the s1 switch (which is pointless) on. The fingerboard edges are rolled and it makes the neck feel a bit narrower if that makes sense. Nice to play anyway Mine was mint and in the original case for £500, you can probably get one even cheaper than that at the moment.
13. top man again for the LBM, all as promised.
14. we had one last week while the rugby was on and if I hadn't been getting paid, I would have stayed at home. We have cancelled this saturday's but that's more because we've not heard anything from the promoter and don't want to waste our time.
15. i'm more impressed with the fact that you come from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
16. cool cheers for that i also found that craft-supplies.co.uk (who seem to be them who run week long guitar building course) and they have some really good prices, although I don't know the exact dimensions of the blanks
17. I've searched the forums for this and I seem to recall there was a thread entitled "Got Wood?" but I can't find it anywhere and there's nothing in the stickies- so, do you recommend anywhere to get a block of mahogany/alder/ash big enough to cut a guitar out of? I was looking at putting together a sort of project together based on a trad design, but with different pickup options and controls. My original plan was to buy a cheap one, patch the holes and neck pocket, rout for the parts I want to put on and bob's your uncle. However, if it's cheap enough for a bit of wood, then that may be the better option and my cabinet making guitarist will rout it for me from the templates he's got. Is it as simple as typing "wood" into yell.com?
18. dammit, it sounds like i'm the only freedom oppressor here. you have your pink fluffy strap then actually that getm getm probably sell them
19.
whats wrong with fluffy straps? (the fluff gets everywhere but fluff rules!)
that says to me, you already think there's something wrong with fluffy straps. Personally, I wouldn't have one but whatever gets you going. There are some far nicer and far more interesting straps out there. try www.getmgetm.com
20. hmmmm. i don't think the strap buttons I've been sold as Am Standard strap buttons are in fact Am Standard Strap buttons - the schaller locks go onto them ok, but they come off without much persuasion. Using the same locks on schaller buttons and they're grand and won't budge at all.
21. thanks Ped, I'm pretty sure they're polywebs - I think I chucked the box in the bin once I'd fitted them.
22. Ped, is there any chance you can pm me their contact details as I never had a response back about the set of polywebs that stripped their coating inside a fortnight. Cheers
23. I doubt anybody would buy one instead of, but they might buy one as well as.
