1. i looked at craftedinjapan yesterday and there is a notice on their site saying they have temporarily ceased trading.
2. I don't own a DI box, I usually rely on the soundman to have one or just DI post EQ from my Ashdown. However, I play guitar in another band and think that a DI for acoustic guitar into our own PA would be very useful. If I buy a DI box (not somethinglike a Sansamp BDDI - just a straight DI box), is it going to be only suitable for Bass or Guitar? Obviously, I'd like to be able to use it for both in the instance that I have to bring my own box to a bass gig and should I be looking for an active or passive one? Got one?
3. sorry to go off topic - what parts do the likes of Lakland and Sadowsky use then - or do they make their own parts?
4. my dad uses the Hercules three guitar stands for guitar gigs and says it's very good and a mini fold up hercules stand for bass gigs. I use the tiny foldaway Fender stands because they fit into my kit box i don't think they're as stable as the hercules grab stands though as they seem to have a more stable base.
5. Just out of interest, is this built from scratch from plans or is it assembled from parts? Damn fine looking bass.
6. i went for the brown one - results to follow!
7. cheers for the pointer - i've just found them on there at £699 - i'm guessing all uk importers are going to be around that price then I think I'd go down the direct import route and pocket the saving
8. If I don't want to go down the import route, where can I get one of these in the UK? it's 70s (75?) RI CIJ jazz The image comes from soundhouse.co.jp - I've not found this bass in this colour (ie 3TS w/rosewood) from craftedinjapan, fareast, mcguitars, etc - any of the UK importers basically. Any suggestions? I am tempted to import as I would probably save a few quid I guess.
9. westone thunder 1 (and 1a) seem to be had occassionally sub £100 and are nice to play, there are some good (old ish) squiers out there sub 100 quid.
10.
Well I for one will not be answering any more string questions.
don't then. i know you're only trying to be helpful, but your thread was pinned in july and featured info copied over from before the demise of BT. How many people have joined up, started using a different string brand or had different experiences to you and the other contributors since then and are keen to add or share their opinions and experiences? In case you hadn't noticed, you're not the only bass owner here. (sorry for detracting from the topic once again) I read quite recently that a particular brand of flats - Roto 77s I think, were quite bright from new - is that right? If I wanted a set of strings that were bright, i'd go and get some rounds!
11. seen loads on ebay - there is a precision one on there at the minute. i got an EB slinky one from ebay in the states
12. yeah that's kinda cool. I'll have a think about it - if they're cheap enough, i could get one of each!
13. As per the previous pickguard help thread, i think it's necessary to replace the pickguard. I'm going to speak to Sims on the advice of neilb, but I wondered what your thoughts were on either red tort or brown tort. It's a black precision and currently wears brown tort (which is quite nice) but I'm crap with photoshop and can't impose a red tort pickguard onto the bass - if anybody has a black p with red tort, show it here! I've got a black/black precision so I'm not really looking for any other colours than specifed. If you've not got one, vote which one you think would look cool anyway!
14. if there was any remote way i could justify the appearance of this in our house, i'd have it unfortunately, i've not got the room or the money
15. cheers Neil Did you put much pressure on it for any length of time and did it work first time? I'm assuming it's plastic. I don't know exactly how old it is - the neck date is 04/83 but it's a solid colour bass which is 05/83 on (I think), I would have imagined it to be plastic anyway.
16.
OK the next time some dumb f*** that cant be arsed to look for the answer posts this question I wont post a link to the wealth of useful info that has already been posted.
and as i've also asked a similar question this week, i take exception to this, particularly as I welcome the input of more than one person. Anyway, let's all be nice eh
17. see above really - i soaked the pickguard, stuck it in between two next books and a yellow pages and stood on it for 10 minutes. it's still knackered. anyway, does anybody recommend any parts suppliers that sell replacement pickguards i can put onto my JV precision as a straight swap? I saw one on the WD site which is suitable for american vintage basses and is 13 holes, plus hole drilled for the thumbrest, but it's 45 quid. I've looked around and the ones for about 20 quid don't seem to be exact matches or say stuff like - some work may need to be done and some holes redrilled - i don't want to start drilling holes in an otherwise excellent condition JV bass and would prefer to know if something's a good fit before i fork out 45 quid on something i might not get a refund on. if you know what i mean somebody told me i need to get the plastic up to about 80-90 degrees C before I try and flatten it, could i put it in a 90 degree oven for a bit and then press it flat or do i run the risk of buggering it completely. ta
18. somebody lend him some money! It's got to go - I now have guitar and basses cases under the window in the back bedroom and last night I was asked, "is all this stuff going to be here long?". I sincerely hope she means under the window and not a more general "in this house, in your possession".
19. as currently seen in the for sale section: Westone Thunder III There's a Crfater electro acoustic fretless in the house as well.
