1.
To confirm what was said above, the answer from the man himself in an email to me today. In the video I used a Robin 'Freedom' Bass. I found it in a pawn shop here in the Dallas area. Robin had ended production of basses in the 80's to focus on guitars. (They're a really small custom shop in Houston). After the song started getting more popular, they contacted me and made me another, but with a rosewood fretboard--and they also started production of basses agian. Both basses have been my main axes ever since--they're amazing instruments. y'all be cool. todd pipes
what a thoroughly bloody nice bloke
2. in my never ending quest to find me a nice les paul standard, i'm selling this one it's actually a very nice les paul standard, i.....er.....just don't really like the colour! It's 2003 with a 60s neck, finished in deserburst and a really nice dark rosewood fretboard (not like the really light examples Gibson are putting out these days). It's had a Rio Grande pickup retro-fitted at the bridge which I think is a Barbecue bucker (or something like that). Now I've adjusted it to it's proper height it's really snappy now and provokes my LC30 into mild overdrive on clean crunch and screams when it's wound up to 10. No dings, dints, scrapes or scratches through the wood - there's a fair bit of buckle rash on the back but nothing that has penetrated through the finish. There appears to be a scratch on the top - again nothing through the finish that I didn't spot when I bought it, it only seems to show up when viewed from a particular angle in the light. No dinks or dints on the headstock or the back of the neck, virtually zero fretwear and it does play very nicely indeed. I'm not in a rush to sell, but I've seen a honey burst one and a heritage cherry one (which i prefer slightly) which are a bit dearer than mine but I am keen on 'em.... Looking for in the region of what I paid for this - £970 ONO - comes with the case and I'm Leicester based. Can meet halfway or deliver for a few bob in petrol. I'd anticipate it costing about £40 to ship with the requisite insurance (£1000 worth), but going by the latest shipping farrago of instruments being delivered to the wrong address, I can't say I'm keen. Anyway, the pics are here. I'm not going to stick it on ebay I don't think, as I said, I'll sell it if I find one that takes my fancy and I think the good lady will probably have something to say about how long it took me to find this one..... edited to say..... I forgot to mention, when I got it the plastic jackplate was shot to sh*t and needed replacing, so I went and bought a proper Gibson chrome one at a cost of nine english pounds and 99 pence. I've still got the packet with the four unused screws and the knackered plastic jackplate as well. Also I have the pickguard which has never been fitted to the guitar and so there are no unsightly screwholes on the side or top where the pickguard would be fitted
3. Selling for me mate Chris, this Epiphone 335 Dot in Ebony. It's really nice - much better than my cherry one - in fact, I had half an idea to swap them and sell the cherry one (but I won't)! S7* Serial shows it was made in the Samick factory in Korea, which seems to turn out the nicest examples if this and my dad's Sheraton is anything to go by. Anyway, see the pics and decide for yourselves. He's looking for about £250 for this so he can buy an amp. Also is his Marshall MG50DFX amp. I don't really know anything about this other than it's 112 combo, 50w SS and has some digital fx on it. It's in good condition as is all of his stuff and he's looking for about £100 I know he's in the market for a new amp - hence the MG50 is off. I think he's been looking at cheap fender tranny heads and cheap 4x12s, but i think something nice and valvey - either a head and 212/210 or a 212/210 valve combo would be good - so if you've got one to part with - let me know, or obviously cash is fine
4.
These any good? http://www.bulldogproducts.co.uk/guitarstraps.htm
bloody hell, yeah that's pretty much exactly what I want. top stuff, cheers for that!
5. yeah that might be nice - i'm looking for one with a buckle on, but if i can't find one, then i may well have one of those.
6. yeah it's quite dear really. i don't mind spending 30 quid i think, if i can get one for that
7. any idea where i can get a nice leather strap, say 2 1/2" - 3" wide with a buckle for length adjustment, but that's the same thickness all the way along, without spending a fortune? ta
8. well after protracted arsing around including haircuts, tyre changes and bit of a (70 mile) detour to pick up a mate of mine, visits to PMT in Birmingham, etc... I went to Manchester. By the time we got there, we only had time for a stroll along Oxford Road. Johnny Roadhouse had some moderately interesting and fairly priced stuff I thought, but lots of cheap (budget) stuff as well. Nice Stingray in the window, couple of 70s strats that sort of thing. Sound Control seemed to have not much stock and even less customers although they did have a couple of Warwicks hanging up. Their Gibsons are hung so high on the wall that nobody could pick and play one - perhaps that's the way they like it. The contrast was Music Ground - which had the most stunning display of instruments I'd seen in ages and helpful fellas too - stocked proper Gibson parts (needed a jackplate) and George L's cables cut to size. Some really really really nice stuff too and I'd have probably stayed all afternoon if I'd had time. Didn't get a chance to go to sounds great and after the stroll into sound control, i couldn't really face going to Salford. Top stuff
9. Just wondering how many of you play guitar (or another instrument, but mainly a guitar), either as a hobby, as a second instrument in a band or something like that and made the transition either from guitar to bass or picked up the guitar as an aside to learning the bass. Personally - I was always a guitar player, asked to play bass in a band so I did and haven't stopped. I still play the guitar in another band. My dad took the bass duty in another band as well after how many dozens of years playing the guitar, did the two band thing for a while and now sticks to playing bass semi professionally but still maintains an interest in the guitar. Just interested really
10. Ped I went to Dunelm Mill or somewhere and bought a couple of microfibre cloths for 79p. I use them on the gloss finishes on my bass and guitars and they are very good at getting rid of all the mucky fingerprints and marks without leaving streaks and with no need for any cleaning agents. You can stick em in the washing machine as well
11. that's my day out planned! I'd be interested to see what music ground have and i'm also keen to see what the mark bass range is like.
12. sorry it's taken a while - i can't be bothered to host them properly to post here, but check out the ebay auctions http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZj0hnalexander. They're all on buy it now, but if you want anything and want to make me an offer, i can always pull them. Cheers
13. that's it - Hope Street. I remember one of the shops had a load of old pony in it, another shop had a couple of interesting bits, including 2 tele basses and one of them had the most bizarre selection of stuff in it I'd ever seen - I think that was Route 66. He even had some route 66 branded guitars that looked a bit mad and had presumably been sat in the shop for 20 years.
14. SC it is then - I was hoping there might be one or two little independents worth looking at. i'm out for the day and it's a bit dull when you're on your own i might go through stoke on the way and have a look at the shops in hanley (there are 4 or 5 on the same street, but i can't remember the street!) and then come back through the peak district and see if there is owt round there. I know there's somebody with a shop in Ashbourne anyway
15. going to Manchester on Saturday - thought I might have a bit of a wander around the guitar shops for a bit of a nosey while I am there. Prices aren't an issue as I don't plan on spending any money as any spare money I do have will go on Mr Silverfoxnik's BB615. Any good ones I should go and check out? I know there are places like Forsyth's and there's a big Dawson's as well - anywhere that I should be having a wee look at?
16. we've supported a few on the toilet circuit - the biggest one to date is probably the young knives i have no idea what they thought of us, i buggered off and played another gig immediately after we'd finished.
17. ?!!?!!!!?!??!!!! They've shot up in a very short space of time
18.
I always stay clear of ebay items where there are no comments from the seller - all the guys auctions were just cut and paste descriptions from sales blurb. Hamster
i listed one of my guitar combo amps recently and was trawling through the completed items looking for my auction when i found the same amp, but in head form and the bugger who listed it had nicked my description verbatim. Cheeky sod
19. Boss CS-3 Compressor Sustainer. In good nick not kicked to bits, no instructions or box, but been in my pedal board (got scratchy velcro on the bottom, but i will remove this carefully if you would like me to). it's that one above the wah there in the pic I'll take a more detailed one when I get home, but to be honest, there isn't a lot to detail. £30 inc p&p Cheers
20. i'm guessing it's a mexican one so the saving isn't bad on the price of a new one, but i doubt it would go for an awful lot more
21. yeah it's the straight ones for connecting the boss pedals together I'm after. I've got some in my boss box which are the right length to couple the two in the box, but i want some really short ones like in the pic up there.
