1.
Hi John Bit confused by the above, can you clarify? Chris
Sorry Chris - that's kinda what I'm looking for in a used Les Paul Studio, if I can possibly get me hands on one in that spec. I know they put ebony fingerboards on some of the early 90s ones but have since switched to rosewood (except on the white ones and who wants a white les paul?)
2.
Behringer make something for you then
good one although i don't need to spend £170 to sound half decent
3. bump £420 including 60 odd quidsworth of case can't be that bad surely. more pics here
4. wowsers £170?? blimey charlie. I think I'll be steering clear of that.
5. I've seen a couple of these switchless wahs and i understand that if you take your foot off them, it goes back into bypass mode. What if you want to leave your wah on and half open for that halfway in betweeny open wah sound?
6. had to happen sooner or later here
7. do you mind if i ask what the JV set you back? Looks like a really nice one
8. F+6 should be 86/87 so it will more likely say Made In Japan rather than "crafted" (which I believe only applies to the stuff made after official exports stopped - although don't quote me on that) and it may say it on the headstock. If you're interested I am selling an E serial one edit: Or rather thinking of selling one
9. i'd consider a swap for a nice enough Jazz but I need me money for a guitar so I wouldn't be able to put anything to that.
10. No why? Do I detect a hint of, " It would only be worth that much if you were" suggestion?
11. there wasn't a point really - it was more a what do you think of this?
What do youse think?
i think it looks quite tidy. I understand John Squire had something very similar which was his inspiration. The body is an old J style bass and it looks like he's done a good job. I thought it was a jaguar, but they don't have the same bottom horn
12. I've just received this picture message from the guitarist in my band of the project he's been working on I believe it used to be some sort of cheap jazz bass copy - it's certainly got a smaller body than any jazz bass that i'd ever seen. He showed me the body a few weeks ago when it turned up and it was all routed for Jazz pickup and bridge configuration. What do youse think?
13. apparently EB's distributor deal in the US won't allow them to ship NEW instruments outside the US (although I've got a couple of emails in my inbox from some US dealers who said they would be prepared to send me a new stingray and mark it used). Although I just ended up buying a used one.
14. Fender Precision Bass - 198(4?) MIJ, excellent condition save for a couple of small impact dints in the lacquer on the bottom edge and a small chip in the lacquer at the neck pocket where I unfortunately and clumsily refitted the neck after checking to see if there were any date marks on the neck and body (there weren't - there were matching stamps on the heel and the pocket though). You all know about Japanese Fenders and how good they are and I suspect this was made during (or just before) the hiatus in USA production pre Corona and that it might even have USA parts (although I've no idea how to authenticate this, so there is an equal possibility that it might not) Strung with Stadium Elites 45-105 and in an excellent condition Hiscox (with the grey furry lining) and the key. I took it to Hiscox after I bought it and got them to replace the cheap rubbishy plastic handle with a nice leather one.
15. paint it yellow! looks like someone drilled a very small hole at the end of the split on the neck to stop it spreading further
16. yeah i've heard of an E13 one which might be worth looking at.
17. eh?! I can read tabs and chord boxes and that gubbins, and I did learn to read a very small amount when I was at school but ten years have passed since I did a GCSE in music. If I want to learn somebody else's songs, I do it by ear (or sometimes look at a tab), but I get more satisfaction composing my own with my band - and surprisingly I still know more theory than the others in our band (who confused me so much by trying to describe a new song as having 4 different time signatures which in actual fact was in 3/4 all the way through) - which is not a lot! I can see that sight reading would be a benefit but I don't think it would improve my playing in the situations I find myself in, nor would it enhance the satisfaction I get from playing bass and guitar.
18. cool - did you ever sell yours? Any others?
19. does anybody know who makes a feedback loop and where i can get one from. I've googled feedback loop and i just get a load of unmusically related cobblers. JA
20. jaysis - you don't by any chance play in a slightly irish influenced band do you? i used to go in the claddagh, spanish arch + spinning wheel when i lived in london.
21.
You can pick up a used MIM Jazz for £275 ish. OLP Tony Levin, Musicman Sub4 or Yamaha BB414 are all excellent used buys.
i found a slightly tatty MIM Jazz for less than £200 which when cleaned up was as good as new. OLPs look good and you should be able to get one of the active yamaha basses (BB614?) used well within your budget but yeah, definitely go into a shop and play as many as you can until you find one you like and even 2 of the same basses aren't necessarily going to be the same
22. i tried a tiny tiny tiny tiny smear of vaseline on the saddles of my tele as it kept breaking strings - i got one tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny smear in the wrong place and it had the effect of deadening the G (they're mega cheap strings so i'm not averse to changing them once a fortnight). on the plus side i haven't broken a string yet!
23. it only needs two - 30w of class A goodness doesn't need fancy buttons and switches to make it sound better you don't need any buttons or switches when you have one of these
24. mine - that's yer lot - and yeah having done a bit of experimenting, i do quite like the ODB-3 although I do have a slightly larger and not quite finished guitar one here
