  1. I've sanded necks in the past to get the profile I like, this particular neck is nice but it is quite deep, so maybe a bit of sanding might do the job and give me the profile I'm used to 😊
  2. I've thought about sanding the neck but being a Fender type neck, the underside is all one level, so it might look a bit odd if I only sand the heel and not the whole length of the neck, although I think it might be the easier option
  3. The depth of the pocket is too shallow which means the neck is sitting too high, so the bridge saddles would need to be made higher, not lower, and adding a shim would make the neck higher still unfortunately πŸ˜‰
  4. I have a router but I can only follow the existing shape so far because there is no edge on the lower bout side
  5. I purchased a nice P body but the depth of the neck pocket is too shallow, what would be the easiest and safest way to do so? It needs to be increased by around 2mm. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  6. The video is not working for me, I would very much like to hear this πŸ‘
  7. Ok thanks, I might give them a call later today πŸ˜‹
  8. I don't want to relic it, I want a standard respray. Its hectorUK who wants to relic it
  9. Any idea what he would charge for a straightforward spray job where the body is already prepared?
  10. Withdrawn because I will be needing it for some recording
  11. NOW SOLD!!! JAZZ BASS FOR SALE I purchased this bass for a project but I have not got round to starting it, so it's now up for sale.. I believe the body is a Squier, but I'm not sure about the neck, hardware, and electrics. Overall, for the money, the condition is good, it plays well, and sounds great. You are welcome to try it out at my home in Bridgnorth. Collected: Β£130 Shipped: Β£140 Despite the decal, THIS IS NOT A FENDER!!! Edited to add sound sample video Jazz Bass Demo.m4v
  12. Lol, all this fuss over some ghastly coloured silk wrapping? πŸ˜ƒ
  13. I've literally just had a go at removing the wrapping off some old flats that I'm replacing with a craft knife, and it worked a treat. Thanks for the tip rushbo πŸ‘
  14. Not only is it colour of the wraps I dislike, but even without taking a craft knife to them, dust seems to fly off them anyway, especially at the bridge end when you are threading them through 😧
  15. Thanks, I must have missed that thread, I've just read it with interest and it seems I'm not alone in my dislike for silk wrapping. I remember trying some black nylon strings once, I paid quite a bit for them but they had bright gold wrapping which looked hideous over black, they lasted about two days before I removed them. 😫 I think I could live with grey or even black wraps, but not the bright colours unfortunately. Don't the manufacturers realise that the brightly coloured wraps stop a lot of us buying their strings? πŸ€”
  16. Does anyone know of any flats that don't have silk wrapping? I'm sure I will be told that the tone is more important than cosmetics, but I hate brightly coloured wrapping on strings with a passion! 😧
  17. Don't know when you used it last, but they have a new purpose built building with new studios that are really nice and clean. Admittedly, ten year's ago it was a dump, but not now.
  18. Mill Hill Music Complex, Unit 1, Bunns Lane, London, NW7 2AJ Tel: 020 8906 9991 https://millhillmusiccomplex.co.uk I used to rehearse there quite a bit before I moved up to Bridgnorth, Shropshire, and it's not far from Barnet.
  19. Over the past ten years or so, I've owned a couple of 70's Fenders, three American Standards, an American 60th Anniversary precision, and a couple of Fender Roadworns, they all had great necks but the only two basses I use now are my two self-builds where one has a Mighty Mite neck installed, and the other has a Squier VM neck installed, they both feel nice and play great for me. πŸ™‚ But you could be right with my latest build, I've not tried a Hosco neck before so its a bit of a gamble, and if it doesn't feel right to me, then it could end up getting sold. 😐
  20. Thanks for the heads up, I ordered one about an hour ago πŸ‘
  21. I've just compared the templates of a 51/tele neck and a jazz neck and it can be done, but I much prefer the 38mm nut on a jazz which is the reason for I chose a body with a rounded neck pocket, nearly all square heeled necks have a nut width that varies between 42mm and 44mm which I find to wide for me.
  22. The neck pocket is a round heel as per standard Fender dimensions, I could certainly round off the heel of the neck but I was wondering whether the rest of the neck heel would fit, width, depth, etc?
  23. Thanks for the reply Dad, its for a self-build and I'm going to reshape the headstock to a 51/tele shape, so I'm not too bothered about how its finished, I'm really wondering about build quality and playability. πŸ™‚ The main concern I've got with the Fender neck is that the tuner holes are pre-drilled and might not match the tuners I have already purchased. πŸ€”
  24. Has anyone had any experience of Hosco replacement necks? I'm looking for a Jazz bass maple neck and the Hosco's are available for Β£219 and are supposed to be a very accurate copy of a Fender neck, but I could also buy a Genuine Fender MIM neck for not a lot more, so I was wondering how the Hosco compares to a Fender MIM neck?
