1.
I do like the look of the switches, but I'm really not so much of a fan of active guitars. Clearly there's a degree of reinvention at work (with this bass), but ultimately it's just a P/J in different clothes; like most gear, don't you just find a bunch of settings you're happy with and stick with those? If I ever landed one of these (probably unlikely), I'd look at just installing a stacked knob plate.
Exactly, as I said, mine will be locked in passive mode with the P pup soloed all the time, but I suppose it is nice to have everything there should I ever need it.
2. Started off with a Carlsbro Stingray 100w combo which I bought off a mate for £50, and used it for my first ever gig, but I realised that apart from sounding awful, I couldn't be heard either, so that went on eBay. I then got an Ashdown ABM 500 EVO II with 1x15 and 2x10 cabs, much more power but it didn't do my back any good, but then I started reading about all the new fangled-tangled new lightweight stuff that was becoming available, so the Ashdown rig ended up on eBay as well and in came a Genz Benz Shuttle 6 with two 2x10 Genz Benz Shuttle cabs which really pleased my back. After a while I thought it was a bit too clean sounding, so traded the head in for a Genz Benz Streamliner, but this time I found it a bit woolly sounding and realised that I actually prefer the cleaner sound of the Shuttle. So the Streamliner went and this time in came a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 and I've never looked back, it's very versatile and cuts through the mix easily, plenty of power and most importantly, it is easy to carry around, the head with all the cables goes in a laptop case which is slung over my shoulder, my bass goes over the other shoulder, and its one cab in each hand. Unfortunately, my back is finally caving in, so I can't manage so well these days. 3. I'm selling off a lot of my basses as I'm not sure how long I'm going to carry on gigging due to health issues, but seeing as I sold THREE last week, I thought it only right to get myself one of these beauties, three out and only one in, even the missus can't moan at that. Anyway, it arrived Tuesday and I gigged it Friday night, for me and I found it amazing, mainly because I love the tone of a precision, but I prefer jazz necks which this has, and most importantly, it played and sounded great!!! The smaller body makes it lighter and it's perfectly balanced which is great for my back, a jazz size neck which is what I like, it has a split P pickup which I will use soloed most of the time, but the jazz pickup is there should I need it, active electrics as well, so all in all, it's got to be just about the most versatile Fender bass out there. And lastly, I think it looks nice especially in olympic white/tort guard which is what I got, and I also managed to get it for £1,099 which is £300 off the regular price almost everywhere.
4.
I think this may be my old one... if so, farqing amazing bass!!!!
If it is your old bass, you are right, it is farqing amazing!!!
5. I've thought about this as well, but I worry a bit about how secure it would be with all that expensive equipment in it?
6. Come and try it for yourself, it really is a great instrument!
7. Me and the guitarist never have any notes or prompts at rehearsals or gigs, we learn the songs properly at home, and turn up knowing the songs in our heads. The vocalist and drummer both have their notes/lyrics in front of them all the time at rehearsals and gigs, and yet they still cock up if they glance elsewhere, even for a few seconds. I honestly think that its a case of, if you have notes and prompts in front of you, then you come to rely on them, in their case, I think they are also just too lazy to learn the songs properly I'm afraid.
8. I respect all your views, and I get all that about you should be more careful and do your homework etc, but I just feel for the people who aren't that clued up, or might have learning difficulties or whatever. I guess it looks like I'm just an over-caring, naive sort of person who hates people being taken advantage of, even if sometimes, it is their own fault.
