I don't play wrong notes, I play alternative notes!

We are a new band that hope to start gigging in the new year. We have been together about a month now, maturish, and we are already making some good music, we have around fifteen songs sorted at the moment, and are building our song list up pretty quickly. If you know of any vocalists in the Herts/Bucks/Beds/Middx/Essex area, who might fit the bill, then please send me a message. Many thanks.

I used to fill a large car with my rig, now I have my GB Streamliner (in it's bag) on one shoulder, a backpack with bits and pieces on the other shoulder, my American Standard precision in one hand, and my Barefaced Super 12 in the other hand. It's everything I need for any gig that I will ever do, and sounds great!

Why not have two buckets? One for those who wants Mustang Sally played, and one for those who don't want it played, and the one that has the most money in by the end of the gig wins. Then it's either played or not played! That way you should get a bidding war and raise even more money.

I don't know how much you want to spend, but I've been using a [b][i]Roland Micro Bass Cube[/i][/b] for many years now. It tucks away in a cupboard, or behind an armchair quite easily, which means it is always within reach when I want to use it ([i]which is almost every day[/i]). It has a decent array of built-in affects, a drum machine, headphone socket, auxiliary input for your iPod or laptop, can run off batteries, and most importantly, for it's size, it sounds really sweet and is plenty loud enough, and is ideal for pedals and pods etc.. I paid £165 for it new, although I think they are around £195 now, but I would imagine you could probably pick one up second hand for less than £100. If it packed up, I would definitely get another one!

Has anyone got the transciption, or an accurate tab for [i][b]Touch Too Much[/b][/i] by AC/DC? Or are there any AC/DC bass books that includes it, as it's not in the two books that I have found so far. It's not to difficult to play, but I'm finding it quite hard to pick out the whole bass line accurately, as some of it just doesn't seem to cut through the mix very well. Thanks in advance!

I purchased a set of [b]D'Addario EXL160M[/b] [u]medium scale[/u] bass strings by mistake, and did not realise until I went to put them on. They are brand new, still in the box, but obviously the plastic bag that contains the strings has been opened. I want to sell them on for [b]£10[/b] posted, to someone who could do with a brand new set of quality strings on the cheap, but I don't know where to list them. There doesn't appear to be a 'for sale' section for strings or accessories. Perhaps we could do with one? Any help would be appreciated.

Ok guys, I should be getting my [b][i]Barefaced Super Twelve[/i][/b] tomorrow after a ten week wait. My brand new [b][i]Genz Benz Streamliner 900[/i][/b] has been sitting at home, waiting patiently for seven weeks, to be coupled up with it's new partner. I'm hoping it's going to be an orgasmic experience! I think I might start a new thread with my thoughts/review on the new rig, so keep an eye out over the next few days.

If Carlsberg did make basses, I just hope that they would be better than the p*ss water they brew!

Unfortunately, for me, I know that Steely Dan are extremely good at what they do, but I think I would be bored after about 20 minutes. Please go easy on me, it's just my opinion!

Don't know whether this has been done before, but here are the songs I hear most when I go and see a live 'covers' band. Admittedly, they [u]were[/u], and still [u]are[/u] great songs, but do WE still want to keep playing them, and perhaps more importantly, do the PUNTERS still want to keep hearing them? But the point that I was trying to make is, if you are one of these higher-earning bands, that is being run as a money making concern, and paying your dues, then I salute you, and have some sympathy with you, if you are being undercut by bands playing the same venues for less or for free. But if you just take the couple of hundred '[i]spondoolies[/i]' every gig, don't declare it ([i]and that's ok with me too[/i]), just don't moan about other bands playing for less, if you don't do things by the books either!

Chances are, none of the four isolated tracks are actually on the final recording, they are probably takes that have been rejected, which probably explains why they have ended up in the public domain, but I do believe that it is him playing, as there can't be any doubt that the vocals and guitar tracks are genuine. But I suppose we will never know for sure, but I think it does illustrate that it doesn't always take a nice sounding and perfectly played bass to sound good in the mix.

If you really wont play for free ([i]which of coarse is entirely up to you[/i]), and you will only play for money ([i]again, that's entirely up to you[/i]), and I'm definitely not going to criticise anyone who wants to make money out of playing, but I do wonder how many of you realise ([i]although I'm sure you do[/i]), that any form of extra income should be declared to '[i]Her Majesties Inland Robbers[/i]'. I ran a small online shop for a while, and some weeks I might make £30, other weeks I might make about £60/70, and on a good week I might make £100, very similar to the sort of money average band members would make [u]each[/u] from playing your average pub gig, but I hired an accountant to make sure that all was ok with my tax responsibilities. Now please don't get all upset here, but how many of you paid bands are even registered, or paying any dues to the HMIR? The only reason I ask is because just recently, I was offered a place in a band that is gigging at least twice a week, occasionally three times a week, and I would have been taking about £150 - £250 in my hand every week, that's around £7,800 - £13,000 per annum, and the first thing that struck me was that I will have to declare that amount of extra income. Now lets be honest here, many of the bands who are not happy with bands playing for free, will probably be earning at least that amount, and the function bands who charge upwards of £1000 for a wedding of corporate event, will be earning even more. So fine, play for money, but only criticise those who play for small amounts of for free, if we are a threat to your registered business, ie, Registered BAND, if you are not a registered business, then really we are all in the same boat, but do it for different reasons.

Thought I might start a new thread on the subject of John Deacon's bass playing in isolation. On the other thread, I sensed that maybe a few people doubted whether it was any good, or indeed, was it actually him playing at all? I sent the isolated bass track to my band members, and one of the guitarists said, it can't be John Deacon, it's probably just someone playing the bass line in their bedroom. So I downloaded all four isolated tracks from YouTube, Bass, drums, guitars and vocals, and spent some time lining the tracks up in Reaper, I have not altered them in any way, no mixing, nothing! just put them together and rendered them. Listen to the tracks in isolation first, and then listen to them combined. Sorry, but how do you upload mp3's?
