1. This is my set up as per my signature There are various bass patches pre programmed or in the free downloadable sound packs, all of which you can tweak to your hearts content. The advantage of the Ultranova to me is that can do much more than just bass sounds ie strings & pads, which I can trigger by foot with the 12 Step. Used ones go for a very reasonable price too!
 2.
Could you use a Keith McMillen foot controller with this?
Would've thought so. I've got a KM 12 Step & can trigger my Ultranova via midi with that. I did need to buy the KM midi expander box too, but that was only £40 or so.
 3. Any clues on the underside of the control plate?
 4. Phwoarr, look at the grain on that! Nice bass - gotta be a keeper that one.
 5. I've had Fenders (of all types). Now got two V7's. Not missing my Fenders at all.....!
 6.
How are they for weight? At over 10lb I had to get rid of my Fender Jazz 5 string, but I do miss it a bit, but know mr shoulder can't bear that weight for any length of time. With active/passive option, does that mean you can carry on playing if the batteries go down?
Just put my standard V7 on the bathroom scales & that reads 10lbs exactly. Yes, if the batteries give up, you can flick to passive & carry on.
 7.
I've been GAS'ing for a sunburst Jazz, so am looking at this thread with interest. Very nice pair, Wilco! Obviously it's not a US bass, but is it more MIM, or Classic Vibe? Gives me an idea as I've played both!
They are a nice pair - always a pleasure to get my hands on them. Oo, er madam! Compared to Fenders? Well, I'm not regretting getting rid of my CIJ Geddy Jazz to pay for the Vintage V7, & the Geddy would be a better bass than a MiM or CV. I've only owned one US Fender, & difficult to do a direct comparison as that was a passive Precision. Do i think the Sire's are lower quality overall compared to that? Not sure that I do....
 8.
Sire Marcus Miller bass guitars must be keepers. They rarely seem to be made available second-hand and my request for a 4-string V7 in the 'Wanted' section hasn't led to a single PM.
I think you're right. Given a lot of these have been sold now, I do regular scans on eBay (not just uk), & very rarely do these come up!
 9.
I kept meaning to try out one of the Steinberger cricket bats to see if it will help my knackered spine, so I'd be interested to hear about any mods that make it more playable. That is surprisingly heavy for its size and shape though, isn't it? I play a Precision Lyte now, which if I remember correctly is 7.4lbs, so about the same as the Steinberger, but it would be good to try something a little different.
I used to have a Steinberger Synapse which on the scales weighed exactly the same as a Fender P I had - both came in at 8.5ilbs. However on the strap, you could definitely feel the Fender but the Synapse felt almost weightless - perfectly balanced I guess. Those Synapse's look a little fragile - until you get your hands on one & realise they are built like brick outhouses too!
 10.
Well I have had the multimeter out today and confirmed it's defo the bridge pup that's dead and not a faulty switch or pot or dry joint. i took the pup out and found the source of the problem, where the coils attach to one of the flying leads the coil wire has snapped. Oddly exactly the same problem with each coil. Now I am negotiations with the eBay seller as I want to get this fixed!
My problem was a dud bridge pick up too. I took it to one of my local guitar shops & from memory, I think they sent it off to Kent Armstrong for repair. It's a bass I miss though - I part exchanged it at Bassgear about three years ago.
 11.
Wider string spacing on the Vintage too right?
The standard V7 5 string is 18mm, & the Vintage V7 fiver is 20mm I believe. Got to say, that is a difference the fingers on my right hand fail to notice! The saddles on the Vintage are grooved, which gives you an element of variance on the spacing on that bass if you so wished.
 12. I used to have one of these - in the same colour too. Very playable & a great tone. I'm just sticking with 5 string basses now, otherwise I'd be all over this. A great bass for someone & glwts.
 13.
Very cool, they really are exceptional instruments ..i have the ash maple v7 and am thinking of getting an alder rosewood vintage what are the tonal differences between your two ?
Not done an all settings the same comparison yet, but would say the Vintage has a tighter tone (not better than the standard, just slightly different) & would put that mainly down to the bridge pickup position
Nice. Seriously tempted myself for the money. Did these not come with a gig-bag then?
For European purchases via Thomann, the gig bag is extra. About £57 (+ postage if you buy it on it's own)
 14. One of these is a bit overdue, but thought it would be better to post them together. A lot of Internet hype around these basses had piqued my interest a few months ago. Fortunately a bass chatter locally to me (Freddie75) put one up for sale, which gave me the opportunity to check one out. I think it took me all of 10 minutes after arriving at Freddie's to agree to buy it at the advertised price...... That was the white standard V7 in the pics below. Not having deep pockets, that left me with just the two basses, the other being my CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz which I'd had for 10 years & had always (perhaps mostly!?!) considered a lifetime keeper. Soon realised that the Fender was now gathering dust & that I was reaching for the V7 every time. Then saw the Vintage V7 advertised. Made the big (for me) decision that the Geddy had to go to pay for one of those, and that turned up last Wednesday after being on order for a few weeks. So what are the differences between the models? V7 has two heavy formvar magnet coil pickups whereas the Vintage V7 has one of those at the bridge & a plain enamel coil pickup at the neck. V7 has 60's pickup spacing vs Vintage which V7 has 70's (difference can be seen in pics) V7 has a heavy duty brass bridge vs the Vintage V7's steel bbot style The bodies & necks across the range come in alder/rosewood or ash/maple variations, so knowing my white V7 was the former, I deliberately chose the latter for the Vintage V7 to add to the above differences. All I can say is the hype is well founded. These basses look great, seem solidly put together, play supremely well & sound awesome - the preamp is full of different tonal possibilities & being 18v, it's very powerful indeed. The only changes I made was to put (ironically) Fender straplocks on both, & turn down the preamp power slightly via a trim pot adjuster in the control plate. A bonus in as much these can be played in either active or passive mode. Also bought a couple of branded gig bags (soft cases) which are at least as good as any other I've seen. These are mid range instruments & the pricing is at the lower end of that range, whilst the quality is at the top end of it. I've owned many a bass, & £1000 on a single instrument is the most I've ever spent. For these two basses & their gig bags I've spent a total of £900, & they are the best basses this modest player has owned....... Very happy indeed!
 15. That'll be my next bass all well & good
 16.
Got my V7-5 yesterday. In the Evening, ve've had a Rehearsal. I have to say, I am very impressed. The Bass came flawless and with a perfect Setup out of the Box. "Made in Indonesia" 4,85 Kg. (Not the lightest, but a good Strap will do the Job..) I have ordered @ Thomann. I ordered on Tuesday, the Bass was delivered on Thursday. A small Card named as "Quality Inspection" was made and signed from a Guy (or a Girl) from Thomann. At the Rehearsal, i've "played" a little bit with the Preamp/Eq, wich is mighty. I still prefer, running it through my Tonebone Bassbone, but using the Mid Control from the Heritage-3. Rest of the V7 EQ was flat. Nontheless, I found, the Heritage 3 Preamp is a good Tool and you easily can dial in a good Sound. Man, I wish 35 Years ago, when I started playing Bass, such Basses @such a Price were available.
That's really not helped my patience........ Lol . What a lovely looking bass. My new one is somewhere between DHL & Parcelforce....
 17. V7 Vintage arrived in stock at Thomann yesterday morning, order has only just been changed to shipped. Patience, patience.........
 18. Blimey mate - surprised to see this up for sale; thought it was 'the one'. These are superb basses & Freddie's a great guy to deal with - have a bump on me fella.
 19. Got a second one on order as per my sig. Annoyingly time seems to have slowed - come on end of month!! :-)
 20. Decided that 5 strings are my thing now & looking to get another, so this has to go to pay for that. It's a 2006 model so 10 years old & I've had it from new. Due to it's age it's got a few minor dings & surface mark near the control plate, but nothing major at all. I've changed the pickups to more punchy Entwistle JBXN's & the tuners are much higher quality Hipshots. Neckplate has a holographic image of Geddy on which is a cool aesthetic touch. The original low quality capacitor as been replaced too. Fender straplocks fitted. The original pickups are included in the sale, as is a Fender Metro gigbag which is only a couple of months old & in 'new' condition. Prefer not to post so collection from Swindon, although happy to drive an hour away to meet up.
 21. Another shout for the Sire MM v7. I hope to buying another when funds allow.
 22. Seen this? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/288559-steinberger-synapse-5-string/
 23.
I also think they have different pick ups, and the bridge pick up has been moved a bit towards the neck for a warmer/vintage tone
I could be wrong, but I think it's the other way as in the bridge pick up is closer to the bridge on the Vintage model. Looks that way when comparing the models on the website & I think I read that somewhere too.
