1. I've just got a Steinberger Synapse. I've only had it a couple of days so not much playing yet - get comfortable with aesthetics & practicality, & the rest of it makes a lot of sense indeed. The tones on mine are absolutely fine too. Instrument looks are very subjective. I generally don't have an issue with headless or stick style instruments, but find all Gibson branded basses, single cut instruments & things like Danelectro body styles completely hideous!!
2. As if by destiny, a mint Steinberger Synapse Custom 4 string came up near me on Ebay so I bought it! My Geddy Lee Jazz weighs in at a hefty 10lbs & my P bass at 8.8lbs. Would you Adam & Eve it that the Synapse weighs........ 8.8lbs. Exactly the same as my P!! In the flesh as it were, a surprisingly chunky & solid instrument. So no weight reduction benefit then, but it will no doubt fit in the car & on stage much easier, & in some ways doesn't feel that heavy so perhaps it's better balanced on the strap? Other first impressions;- 1) very fast & buttery neck - very, very easy to play 2) seems well enough screwed together 3) sound seems very much orientated to high mids, so I need to mess around with some EQ to dial that out for my ears 4) every note has a lot of clarity & definition. Initial impressions then, by no means a disappointment & on the surface of it, a very decent bass!
3. So the obvious gain would be ease of transportation - smaller physical size & around 40lbs less weight. Balance that against the likely difference in cost (assuming I got £300 notes for the Hartke), of a £400 outlay. The Hydrive is a great sounding cab with masses of headroom. Can I really get that from a single 12" speaker vs that 4 x 10? I know Barefaced do a months trial, but I thought I'd get the opinions of you good folk first!
4. I should have been clearer in my initial post, I wasn't thinking of the Chapman Stick, more of your Hohner & Steinberger types. Good previous thread Paul S. I had a B2A a few years ago & I liked it, but not tried a B2B. The Steinberger XS looks pretty good mind. New strap hook arrangement, meaty active EMG, piezo bridge & rosewood saddle to warm the tone up a bit - all for £600 new..... Dammit, haven't had GAS for ages.....
5. So, I've just changed my amp head to something lighter & more portable. Likely that when funds allow, the same will happen with my cab. Like many of us, I'm looking to make things a little easier for myself on the transportation front. Then I go & load two 9lbs basses into hefty rectangular cases & lump those around to gigs! Don't get me wrong, those two basses are great & yes, instruments are lighter than amp gear obviously. You'd have thought though, given the currently popularity of backline size reduction, that a trend in smaller intruments might have followed? Steinberger type stick basses being the obvious candidates. I'm a child of the 80's however, so that might be a rose tinted specs type thought which could garner chortles to derision elsewhere!!
6. Two for me; Mainly, of all things, a Fender Highway One Jazz bass (bad ass bridge / posiflex truss rod version) - really regretting off loading that one. Sounded special. Closely followed by a 1980's Aria Pro 2 SB Special 2 which I purchased used in 2010 - sounded great & was probably the easiest & most comfortable bass I've ever played.
7.
Thanks, that the one I'm ordering today (see my post above yours ;-).
Good stuff - you must have posted while I was typing!!
8. Cotswold Bass Guitars have a nice used one for sale if that's of interest. I was seriously considering it, but already have one killer P bass & can't really justify another. http://www.cotswoldbassguitars.co.uk/for-sale.htm
9. I've just had my Ultranova repaired after some clumsiness by me, & the Novation/Focusrite service was equally top notch. So have another big thumbs up from me Novation tech guys! Wilco.
10. Simple Minds Live in the City of Light - still play it loads now
11. New Amp head on the way with Speakon only output makes these surplus to requirements. Great cable & quality jacks. £12 (for both - not each) UK posted only
12. What a really pleasant bloke!! Steve bought my Zoom B3 & made the whole sale a breeze with great comms & a swift payment. Deal with confidence folks - no worries.
13. Thought I'd sold my whole rig locally, but buyer now appears to have a Sterling liquidity problem...! Have decided to keep the cab for now & just sell the head. The pre amp tube has been changed to a top end Gold Lion ECC83/B759 (the original Sovtek is also included in the sale). Like this ; http://www.hotroxuk....-gold-lion.html Spec:- •500 watts of power @ 4 ohms •Classic 12AX7 High Voltage Class-A tube preamp circuit •Bass and Treble Shelving, plus mid-peak EQ controls •Selectable Brite switch for added high frequency response •Selectable limiter switch with LED indicator •Front panel XLR balanced direct output •Rear panel 1/4" effects loop •1/4" output connectors •2-rackspace metal chassis with steel faceplate and handles As you can see from the following photos, the amp is in excellent condition (wouldn't sell anything that could adversely effect my feedback!) £160 collected from Swindon or circa 30 min radius meet up from there (will post UK only for additional £10 - have full original packaging) Would trade for a TC BH550 with cash your way.
14. Will bought my Tascam bass trainer. Very easy transaction & swift payment. Nice one Will - enjoy!
15. Probably the best of its type. In excellent condition - latches are fine & only a few surface scratches. It's one of these:- http://www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk/manufacturer/product.asp?item=boschma-roto-rackmount-flight-case-2u-black-3590-7216 £45 collected from Swindon (although would drive 30 mins to meet up for a handover)
16. Thanks S.P. and you're right - loads of power available which the Hydrive 410 can cope with no problem! Certainly not selling this due to any doubts over it's abilities - I'm also looking to go light weight. I should say lighter weight as the amp & cab are easily transportable by the average person - I've got lower back problems though & I'm not getting any younger, so just trying to make things a little easier for myself! Saying that, someone at work today suggested getting a sack truck to move the cab around which actually isn't a bad idea..... I might yet keep the cab, buy a sack truck & just downsize the head - dunno. Anyway, it's still all up for sale now as advertised, although offers on the head & its case alone will be considered!
17. Better pics added type bump! (NB; although would rather sell as a complete rig, will consider sensible offers for the LH500 together with Boschma case on their own)
18. Cracking multi effects pedal which gets good press pretty much everywhere! I've owned this one from new & it's in excellent condition. In original box, with manual & power supply. £85 UK posted. Wilco.
19. I've owned this set up from new and it is in great condition. The pre amp tube in the LH500 has been changed to a top end Gold Lion ECC83/B759 (the original Sovtek is also included in the sale). The amp is housed in a 2U Boschma abs case which is again included in the sale. Spec:- •500 watts of power @ 4 ohms •Classic 12AX7 High Voltage Class-A tube preamp circuit •Bass and Treble Shelving, plus mid-peak EQ controls •Selectable Brite switch for added high frequency response •Selectable limiter switch with LED indicator •Front panel XLR balanced direct output •Rear panel 1/4" effects loop •1/4" output connectors •2-rackspace metal chassis with steel faceplate and handles The 410 comes with (non branded) black vinyl cover. The cab is easily carried about by one person. Spec:- •Four 10" HyDrive paper/aluminium hybrid cone drivers •Neodymium magnets •1,000 watts power handling •8-ohm cabinet impedance •1" titanium compression driver •High frequency attenuation switch (On,-6dB, Off) •Parallel Twist and Lock and 1/4" inputs •30Hz–17kHz frequency response •Solid plywood cabinet construction •Dual-chamber sealed cabinet design •Perforated steel grill •Inset carry handles •Removable casters included New price for the whole lot would be circa £850. At this stage would rather sell as a complete rig. Collection from Swindon, although prepared to travel an hour or so at no cost to meet up. Think I have all boxes and manuals too. If you're genuinely interested in buying, you're most welcome to come and try it out. Loads of power (never had over 6 on volume control in a rock band) and a superb clean tone. Wilco
20. What's the weight, width at the nut & er......, string spacing please.......!?!?!!
21. That's now a proper bargain!! (Some pics will help your cause though)
22. Recycled post with a different item on type bump! (price above looks confusing & I can't amend - to confirm it's £45 posted)
23. That is bloomin' lovely that is - looks better without the pickguard I reckon. Sod's law this has come up when I'm skintus maximus after the combined costs of buying a car & crimbo.... :-((
