    Many thanks for all the replies guys. I had a band rehearsal last night, so thought I'd reply after seeing how that went. Good news in that it is fundamentally a good bass. My last MiM I referred to had no depth in the sound & this one thankfully does. The neck is very playable & overall the condition is good. Minimal fret wear & virtually no marks ding wise. All in all, as much as could have wanted as the basis for the mods I have planned. It could have done with a bit of a once over before it left the shop though - loose & crackly jack socket & both pots were not tight so both controls wobbled, one noticeably. Sorted those before I went out & polished the frets (they were very matted). With the capacitor used on MiM's, I was expecting a lifeless tone control so no surprises there, but even with virtually dead strings, it sounded good in the rehearsal session. A black standard P bass is hardly gear porn excitement, so I'll only put up one picture. I'll post again when the mods have been done (assuming they go well!!)

    I used to have a 2000 MiM Jazz V. It was total rubbish & although a Fender fan, it put me off MIM basses. However a 2009 MiM standard 4 string P is winging it's way too me & I have distance purchased it. It's coming from a respected bass retail specialist, the sale pics looked good, & from what I can gather on BC, MiM's from 2008 onwards seem to be a lot better quality wise. I am worrying about nothing right? (To be honest, I'm going to mod the crap out of it anyway!!)

    I've just purchased a set of these for a P bass that I'll be getting shortly. I got them for my Geddy Lee & like those a lot. Make other high priced aftermarket pups look a bit of a rip off for the money they go for!

[/quote] With the Badass it's a Highway One not 1 - there were two versions. Certainly the H One has the graphite reinforced neck & no skunk stripe.

    Probably really not worth describing what this is/does on here, as I'm sure you knowledgeable lot will know full well!! But a little background info just in case:- The OC-2 had originally a much lighter non-metallic brown colour and it was labeled "Octaver" instead of Octave. The name changed early 1984 while the darker shade of brown was introduced about a year later. Production moved to Taiwan, 1989 and was modified for the PSA adapter 1997. Specifications •Controls: Octave 1 Level (Oct 1), Octave 2 Level (Oct 2), Direct Level •Connectors: Input, Output, AC Adaptor •Current Draw: 4 mA (DC 9V) •Weight: 400 g (15 oz.) •Recommended AC Adaptor: ACA Series (black label) or PSA Series (silver label) Labels •Black - Made In Japan •Black - Made In Taiwan •Silver - Made In Taiwan The OC-2 was sold from April 1982 to September 2003. The serial number dater here:- http://www.bossarea.com/serial/sndecoder.aspx dates this pedal as manufactured in August 1982, so only 4 months after original launch! As you can see by the pics, it is in superb condition for it's age. No manual, power supply or box. Price includes UK postage.     After stupidly getting rid of a very nice P bass in January when I didn't really need it, I now need one..... Hindsight is a wonderful thing!! The band I am now in is doing some Floyd hence the interest in the RW bass, however I love my Highway One Jazz & am thinking the P version of that therefore might appeal. These would also fit the budget of around £400 - £500 used. I know I am at the mercy of what becomes available used instrument wise, but if one of each came up, which one would you go for & why?     I bought this when I had some volume differences between a couple of basses. I sold those instruments a while ago now, but still held on to this pedal is it proved very useful. It's a great booster, but does more due to the two tone shaping filters:- VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) - mellows out sound VPF (Variable Pre-shape filter) - How/low boost, mids cut. These sound so good, I tended to have them on all the time. Other than the tonal changes, I can only describe it as adding 'polish' to the sound. There is also an active DI out too.     I got the Ibanez from Bass Direct recently. Popped some LaBella's on it, & yes, very good indeed. No knowledge of the Spectorcore, but another +1 for the Ibby.

    Very sad news indeed. Fondly remember getting a TD 4 album vinyl boxset for a Crimbo present in my early teens, & have been a fan ever since. Currently got their 2013 album Finnegan's Wake pretty much on permanent repeat on my iPod. If someone was to put me on the spot & ask "what's your favourite song by any artist ever?", i would answer with TD's Cloudburst Flight. Musical genius for sure. RIP.

    Once had a dabble at fretless with a Cort Curbow - thought that was a shocker of a bass & it put me off for a while. After recently offloading my Precision, I had some spare funds & then spotted this bass for sale at Bass Direct. Looked nice enough at the price to warrant giving fretless playing another go. I've actually had it a week now, and it's got to be said I'm quite taken by it. Nicely thought out design, well built, Piezo bridge, extremely light & comfortable to play & most importantly, superb fretless "mwah"!!

    Most excellent looking bass - great colour combination with pickguard & cool grain pattern too. Looks like a keeper! (but don't we all say that!!)
