I have been wanting to post this for a while, I'm in a bit of a dilemma, when i started playing bass some 8 years ago, i found periodically i was never thoroughly happy with the bass i then owned and played, thus resulting in the very pleasurable task of buying, playing, and selling basses until i found "the one", what i liked about that phase was there was always the Honeymoon period to enjoy, the very second you get a new bass in your hands and have no worries about throwing the money at whoever was selling it, take it home, nail those tracks that you never were able to before on the previous bass because "it made you a bad player" but then! like always, sort of similar to having a nagging girlfriend you slowly develop a dislike to her tone and then eventually comes a break up as you suddenly have enough pennies to see what else is out there and no longer have to put up with it all.... sorry love, playing the field is fun... was fun... The point of this is, 2 years ago i found on this very forum my 1988' Warwick Streamer Stage II, and now the hunger for new basses has gone, i have sold every other bass i have owned and i have been a one bass man for sometime now, 2 years.... which isn't as good as it sounds, its like I'm scared to try anything new, for two reasons,

The new bass will be better than the Warwick
The new bass will be worse than the Warwick
Its like cheating.... do i try something new and just hope for the best, if its worse ditch it, but what if its better? I'd never want to ditch the Stage II, What makes it worse is this, i haven't found another bass that i want to own.... anything over 5 strings i don't want to know, even 5 stringers at push can be awkward, Fenders? no deal, i had a terrible one and like a bad meal at a restaurant its put me off for life, New Warwicks have necks i can't play & i really don't want another Warwick except maybe Lex's Casper, Musicman basses just aren't for me either... I'm stuck.....nothing has touched this Warwick. and now the hunger is building up, i think i can except the fact that the Stage II is THE bass for me, my numero uno, and bass for life, but at 23 i can't be tied down like that, i need something to make me want to deviate even just for a little while..... or should i just be happy with it? Perhaps its the buying and selling i miss? anybody else got what i suppose you could call a wife bass? did you have the one and then let another in? How did it go? and are you still with her?

Perhaps not under rated bands but definitely not as discussed as much as they should be; Cake's - Gabe Nelson and poor old Groove God Andrew Levy who has played the "Just The Bassist" card very well for so long. There's my two, Solid as rocks.

Haha i love that poster! "It'll be mint" If i can make it through!.... *im up for my birthday on the saturday from Portsmouth" then i'll bring my '88 Stage II.

Geordie Bassbash? with at least 3 of us Warwick'd up to the eyeballs it'll be too good to miss, i'll have to do some travelling to get back to my homeland but it'll be worth it, as at the moment im a Geordie in Pompey......... but in a year who knows i may have come back to my senses.

It will be very hard for me to ever let my '88 Stage II go, there was a minor low point when Warwickhunt came round to try it to buy it when i really needed money, and i'm so so so happy he left it cause i'll be happily playing this thing until my hands seize up.
i think the forum administrator picking a piece of paper from a hat will be just fine
Sweet dude, lets hope so! Best Of Luck if you're in! at least we can find solace in the fact that a bcer is going to be giving it a new home.

Im in for this. However i fear the "drawing" of the ticket via name in a hat isn't the best way to go about things, how about the names of everybody who's paid is written or printed on the back of 2 decks of playing cards, everycard could be shuffled properly laid face down on a table and then the winner picked at absolute random, it would be easy to film and put on say you tube to keep things above board and legit. I'm not saying that people are going to ever rig this but your going to have to cover all corners, when 99 people who don't win start shouting a fix! As i say i'm in, but when a grand of peoples money is up in the air, keep it professional.
Older than 93.
Amen. If you can't find a pre '93 model and you really don't fancy the new necks then aim your sights for a 2000 or earlier model, like the guy before me posted, the prices on LX's can sometimes be worryingly low.
They're going to see shed-loads more of those Rockbasses now they changed the headstock logo. Some lovely stuff there.
Definitely! put me down for a fortress 5 string! And i'm loving that Zender sig, its like a funkier Rick and a more conservative Ritter, those inlays however will have to grow on me, i'll be buying one regardless, i'll be interested to see the "more affordable" version of it too, it'll probably be a toned down Rockbass version without the daft neck, which inadvertently may be more popular because of it.

I have set myself the new years resolution of learning Jaco Pastorius's Teen Town, i bought a book of his containing a cd of backing tracks, i perhaps wouldn't have bought it if i had known in advance that the backing tracks were to be played by an army of 1980's casio keyboards on acid! But i did buy it, just lucky for me the transcription is spot on, now i have to learn it, however long that will take!
I'll have these mate PM'd
Gone to Ben White pending the usual! I'm very happy to see these guys off to a fellow Warwick player! cheers mate. And Thanks to Mike as always, i'll have to get back to you actually Mike regarding that email i don't think it contained anything, no images, no links, unless i was having a blonde moment, is it possible for you to re link and re send? also more info on that Lakland would be cool i may have a mate interested in that! As for posting more, in between work, the gym, learning Teen Town (haha), and band practice i end up with 15 minutes to check emails and the sort, i know its a total sob story, but if it helps i do check this daily and see how everyone is doing i promise! Take it easy. -
Hey Guys, On my recent festive venture back to Newcastle i popped in to Soundslive and bought what i thought were my usual pack of light gauge Elites Stadium Series Strings, i got back to Portsmouth last night, realised they weren't, but thought heck they can't be much different and re strung my Warwick with them regardless but to horrible results, even though they're only about 0.5 bigger than what i'm used to, playing Light Gauges for the past 6 years makes everything else just seem unplayable, so i took them off after 10 minutes, and slapped the old ones back on. So if anybody fancies these for a fiver let me know and i'll get them sent off to you, please remember they have been cut for a Warwick Streamer Stage II, 34" scale, all cut two inches after the peg so i doubt the G string would reach a Fender 4er, but Warwicks and Stingrays should be fine! I can do Paypal, cheques, whatever suits. Cheers. Ben.

Lovely stuff man! You've had some handsome Warwicks in that collection! looks like a two footed jump in to the bass world, I'm sure my first "good" bass was my 5th, and that would have been a Warwick too!

From one '88 streamer owner to another........ Never put her in the attic again..... or i'll be sending someone round! but seriously

Best of luck with the new A4 mate, i had a Cort Artisan A6 at some point too, think it was a couple of years ago, beautiful tone, fantastically playable, but there was just something about it and it ended up being sold on, in fact no, i think i traded it for a Marcus Miller Sig, either way it went, but definitely not a negative experience.
-
Im also very concerned for the heritage of this bass like, cash converters must have only paid what? £40 tops for that bass? incredible! somewhere, someone is upset.
-
The neck on my 88' stage II is fantastic not to thin but definitely not thick and incredibly playable, however the neck on my corvette double buck was thick and the edges on the fretboard where sharp, but saying that it wasn't terrible, the neck on my streamer lx was a bore, incredibly dry for some weird reason and thick, i played a fna jazzman in a local sound control and i put it straight back, i love love love warwick but that particular model was awfully unplayable, it didn't help that the strings where a good 7mm off the board and loaded with dead strings ! i think what I'm trying to get across is they all differ greatly really, but in general rule the older the warwick the better the neck.
I don't know if this is old news or not even news at all, but Windows music shop in Newcastle have some SX basses and guitars in stock. They have a black scorpion jazz copy and a metallic red jazz copy both £169.
I wonder if the fantastic "I don't work for commission so I'm going to pretend I'm busy and ignore you" customer sales reps of windows will keep me from checking these out tomorrow, i keep on toying with the idea of getting a cheap 5 string Jazz, this could finally be my excuse to follow through! Thanks for the heads up!
Hey Ben. Keep hold of the first strap that is 5" wide... I'll square up when I see you soon or you can pop it in the post. Cheers
John mate, Jake has made a payment for that strap I'm afraid, they have all sold now, alot faster than i'd ever imagined they would! hopefully its still ok to bring the streamer round at some point, I'm thinking next week? best regards, Ben.
