  1. Absolutely. My dilemma is wanting something traditional Fender style, 7 lbs max, P or PJ pickups / passive and not a massive neck. Been using Precision Lyte basses a long time now, and find the neck and weight ideal, although would prefer not having active circuit. Am considering fitting new passive pickups, maybe S.Duncans or similar.
  2. Check your Hartke - US company but probably made in Korea / elsewhere in Asia I believe.
  3. With you on that brother. When first introduced, they were passive but soon morphed into the active model for some reason. Still see the odd one come up s/h occasionally, looks like I may be racing you for one when they do. 😄
  4. Think they still do - the Deluxe Active P-bass Special. Made in Mexico, PJ pickups and a nice bass.
  5. I can just imagine the set list - Baa baa baa, baa Barbara Anne? Nothing compares to ewe? Wooly Bully? Or anything by Rammstein or Ewe B40?
  6. Funnily enough, I thought she does sound like part of the band more than 'the singer out front'. The fact she plays guitar, piano and (on one song) bass only makes me warm to her more. We're probably polar opposites in our tastes - not a big fan of shouting / rapping / chanting stuff, although think we agree on oversinging so there's a start....😂
  7. No problem, good job we're all different etc. 🙂 Definitions of groove, syncopation and cojones are all subjective too of course, and I realise that I'm in quite a small minority on here liking the stuff I do. FWIW Primus do nowt for me (too shouty / overplayed / naff guitar sounds etc) and I frequently have this same debate with our PA engineer who loves 'em, playing their stuff at soundchecks to try to convince me what I'm missing!! Mark me down as dinosaur I guess 🦖
  8. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p07d4sgj/glastonbury-sheryl-crow-live-at-glastonbury For anyone who missed this.
  9. If I had the dosh I'd have it as a spare - there again, they're so reliable I don't really need one! Great amp for someone though.
  10. Great amp and price! I've been using these for nearly ten years now, and mine have never missed a beat or been lacking for tone and volume/headroom. ( I run mine into an 8ohm cab too.) At 22lbs not a back breaker either, perfect compromise between class D portability and old school heavy iron. GLWTS Dave.
  11. Me too! Either anchor my thumb there or on the E string as and when. It’s amazing how soon you get used to it. Great basses, do it!
  12. As a couple of posts have pointed out, a good floor standing fan is essential especially given the recent temperatures in the UK. I use mine a lot, from around March to October generally, and even on setting 1 (of 3) it makes a helluva difference to my wellbeing onstage. Caught the singer trying to angle it more his way the other night though 🤨. Mine is something like this one, best £30 I've spent in along time. https://www.screwfix.com/p/18-floor-fan-220-240v/3939X?tc=SA1&ds_kid=92700038617586210&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1249404&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8bCi772W4wIVq73tCh1lxwb5EAQYBCABEgJdmvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  13. That's the danger with me too! Drinking enough to keep you hydrated but not too much so an hour long set is a problem. We all take water onstage with us, and some get through quite a bit. I just use it for when my mouth gets dry after doing a lot of BV's. Gigging certainly doesn't get any easier as you get older, that's for sure. The main members of my band are all in their 50's and 60's, and although we're no gym bunnies we manage to stay reasonably ok. Our singer did have a heart problem a couple of years ago, but (touch wood) we seem to have got over that setback. With us, it's not just the gigs (2x60 min sets) but also the travelling that can take it's toll. Doing 300 odd miles like we did last weekend in 30+ degrees and then setting up / doing the show / packing down etc makes for long days with little respite. Doesn't help either having The Stones back on tour, with 75 year old Jagger still doing his thing like a man half his age....😄
  14. Isn’t it funny how we differ in our perception of stuff? I watched about ten minutes of JG’s set, and (although to be fair not exactly my type of thing ) couldn’t stand the ‘upright noises’ which to me seemed quite out of tune, with dodgy intonation especially during the solo sections. Or is that how it’s supposed to be? Jeff seemed content to make occasional stabs on the piano and talk over the soloists too, bit strange.
  15. Discipline at rehearsals is key. People messing with new gear, widdling away, on their mobiles, smoking/vaping breaks etc all go towards making things very arduous IME. Being able to talk and express ideas in an open manner is vital to making any material work in performance.
  16. Cheers - just checked it out. Looks good, and even qualifies in my ‘under 7lb’ range. May have to investigate!
  17. Just been watching some of Glasto on catch up and was wowed by Sheryl Crow. Amazing band with guitar tones to die for, and the bass sounded wonderful as well. ( Might have to check out some Reverend basses. ) Ms Crow was fantastic, note perfect and full of energy, and even played bass ( Guild M-85) on one tune too. Wish I’d caught her on recent Uk tour. Saw a bit of Kylie earlier - okay, band great especially the bassist. Mylie Cyrus was better, with Mark Ronson guesting.
  18. As Loz said, Fender Rumble (V3 range) are excellent. Light, sound good and various models with outputs to suit your needs. The 25 watter features aux input and a headphone socket, and should be more than adequate for home practice sessions.
  19. In Edinburgh, Duncanson and Edwards pawnbrokers on Queen Street often have a good selection of used instruments at fair prices.
  20. +1 Really miss having a Ray, but unless I can track down one around the 8 lb mark then they will have to remain a fond memory for me. I thought a USA Sterling may be lighter with the slightly smaller body, but all the ones I’ve had / tried seem to be no lighter for some reason.
  21. Cheap (but not nasty) alternative - Gear4music foam case. Shaped or rectangular, both £39.99. Had mine for 4 years plus now, done every gig with it and still looks new. Lightweight, superb protection even in a van and easy to use.
  22. I’ve just done a 2 hour plus theatre gig, where my usual 7lb active P.Lyte didn’t like some lighting so had to use my spare 8.5 lb passive P-bass. My back and shoulder are now kicking off big time (despite some local IPA), so am hoping tomorrow night’s gig is back to normal. As Chris says above, look after your backs kids. 😕
  23. Same reason I sold mine, although the strap button extender bracket thingy you could fit to them apparently sorted this out. If I could have found one I’d have kept the bass, but I got sick of forever hitting wrong notes while trying to pull the bass back nearer me. 😅
