  1. I’ve heard good things about them, sounded a great gig! Wish I’d caught them up here, maybe next time.
  2. Should be awesome with the 6x10 cab. Guessing it's a 4 ohm job, so you'll be getting all of the 700 watts of loveliness. Let us know how you get on.☺️
  3. My 1001RB11 sounds very similar to it's predecessor, the 700RB11, just more of it! Both not a million miles away from my 800RB either. Nice one, am sure you won't regret it.
  4. Gallien Krueger 1001RB11 ? 700 (loud) watts + 50w horn bi amp. Affordable and only 22lbs in weight.
  5. Medium scale will be fine. Also there is someone (ahem...) selling some Fender acoustic strings that would be perfect for your bass in the ‘Other musical items...’ section on here. Okay, a touch heavier gauge than you specify, but worth a look 😄
  6. Looks like the 1040w is to do with the power consumption, not speaker output. 😊
  7. As someone also mentioned in another thread, different designs can help relieve problems by altering your playing position. I saw one of the basses below at a guitar show a while back, and couldn't believe how it was so playable (and light) for a full scale model. Made by Rees in Cambridge. http://www.rees-electric-guitars.com/index.html
  8. Lucky you - saw her a few years ago in Birmingham, she's still got it. Enjoy!
  9. Fender 7060 Phosphor Bronze wound strings - Medium Scale ( 45-65-80-100 gauges) , Made in the USA. One brand new unopened set and also a spare set ( which have been used but still reasonably fresh, and cut for 2 a side headstock.) Great strings ( think they may be made by D'Addario? ). Only selling as I do not currently have a bass that uses these. Usually sell for between £14 to £20 online, so a bargain at £10 for both sets (incl. UK 2nd class postage) Instrument 4- String Acoustic Bass Scale Length Medium Scale Gauge Range 45 - 100 Gauges 45 , 65 , 80 , 100 Wrap Material Phosphor Bronze Construction Round Wound Hex Core / Round Core Steel Core Standard / Double Ball End Standard Ball End Coated / Non-Coated Non-Coated Fender 4-String Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Bass Guitar Strings 45-100 Medium Scale 7060 Made for the BG-29 and BG-32 acoustic basses, these strings will work great on any 30 scale acoustic bass. 10. If looks were the main criteria, I would never have sold my SVT / 810 rig. I’d probably be crippled by now at my age though of course but it did also sound wonderful. Every time I see / hear one I do get that feeling of regret still.... As Chris says, find something you like soundwise, then assess it’s practicality for gigging and then finally make sure you can get on with the aesthetics.
  11. I’ve used various GK amps for a long time now. Started with the classic 800RB (which I still have and love), then moved onto the later 700 and 1000 RB series of heads. Currently still use the 1000RB into a GK 410 Neo cab for my main gig, and very happy with the sound and reliability. I use a fairly clean sound, and to me it sounds punchy and full. For small gigs I run an MB 800 into a Barefaced Compact cab. The MB sounds great, and as gjones says above, very powerful! In fact I took my little MB200 to a gig in error last year, and it coped very well in a full band set up. For me I prefer the RB range, but the MBs are still fine amps. I’ve had a Mark Bass LM2 , and find the GK MB stuff more ‘musical’ somehow for a class D design. Prior to using GK stuff I had an SVT3 Pro, and whilst I liked the sound I always felt it ran out of steam a bit. Am sure few GK users will ever say that 😊
  12. Don't sell a thing! It was probably one of those gigs where stuff like this happens every now and then, (same as it can sound extra tasty on others). There's every chance it will be an isolated incident and you'll be back loving it next time you're gigging.
  13. Some friends of mine were playing there Mart, The Snake Oil Charmers. Don’t know if you saw them?
  14. Couple of good gigs this week in Milton Keynes and Aylesbury. We have a new lighting guy, so enjoying seeing what he can do to make us look better, not an easy task....
  15. Bit of a late reply I'm afraid, but for anyone else following this I've just bought 10 Duracells for £10.29 off ebay, including 2nd class delivery. Used GoGreen before, verified seller & not knock offs etc. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-Duracell-9V-PP3-Industrial-Procell-Batteries-Smoke-Alarm-LR22-BLOC-MN1604/291381130965?hash=item43d7ab36d5:g:hkUAAOSwblZZEuLD
  16. I seem to remember the bar opening times are governed by flight times though, closing after the last one etc so best check. There is the inevitable Wetherspoons in Yeadon which probably closes around midnight I guess.
  17. There’s always the option of maybe being a bar open at the airport 😂
  18. Forgot to add that Norman, for a small donation to a Cancer charity, will give you a guided tour of the upstairs collection in the shop. Well worth your time and money I think. Mrs CP lured me to Hemswell with the promise of a few guitars. She browsed the antiques while I checked them out. Not a massive selection, but some oddball stuff there (Indian f hole acoustic - 'Hobmer' for example!) as well as some Mex fenders and Epiphones. Café downstairs wasn't bad either, good coffee and millionaires shortbread!!
  19. It’s been there a long time, but you maybe wouldn’t have noticed it amongst all the other antiques shops as the frontage is a bit like one of them. (This is maybe deliberate to keep it as a ‘destination’ for people in the know to go to rather than attract unwanted tourists looking for cheap tat! ) The shop is just a part of what Norman does - he sources a lot of things for films and theatre productions as well as other stuff. A really knowledgeable chap with an amazing collection of significant amps ,instruments and memorabilia.
  20. Went about a month ago, and all seemed well. Got talking with Norman and he showed us his amazing collection of vintage stuff upstairs, along with some great anecdotes about where & how they were obtained etc. An absolutely lovely bloke, but unfortunately people and businesses like this are becoming all too scarce now. I’ll definitely be back to buy something soon. Incidentally ( as you’re not far away), have you heard that the antiques place at Hemswell (just off the A15 at Caenby Corner) now has a room with guitars ? Some strange vintage European jazz acoustics when I was there, along with some other stuff. Few basses but you never know...🙂
  21. I find this mostly happens for me when the shop only sells new stuff. PMT's recent 'no price tags' idea puts me off even more. I'm usually more tempted in shops where they have a fair selection of used/vintage things, like when I recently visited Old Hat Guitars in Horncastle. Tried a few instruments out there, in a friendly and relaxed retail environment. Didn't buy anything that day, but will definitely return soon to see what else they have in.
  22. I've had a really varied few gigs this last week. Started with a tea dance style event for a 50th wedding anniversary in a swish hotel in East Yorkshire. We brought along a great trumpet player / singer who really helped entertain the audience, so we went down really well. Next two nights were with my regular band doing theatres including the great Burnley Mechanics. Sold out crowd, great venue and crew and audience well up for it. Saturday I was with my guitarist partner playing in our acoustic duo at a birthday party in an old vicarage near Leeds. Played in the dining room to all 16 of the guests! Bit odd at first, but lovely people who were loving the cocktail bar provided a lot, so they were all up dancing after desserts and coffee! Then last night (Sunday) it was the duo again, but this time in a great new venue situated on West Pier in Scarborough harbour called The Lookout. Only small, but no problem. Sold out crowd enjoyed food before we played, nice intimate atmosphere with great staff and views over the bay. Finished by 9pm, two more bookings in the diary so happy days.
  23. Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets in Hull on Friday. Absolutely superb gig at a great venue, Jubilee Central. Los Straitjackets are an American band channelling 60's surf / twang sounds but somehow making them sound up to date. They perform in Mexican wrestlers (Lucha Libre) masks throughout! Two guitars, bass and drums, all great players. Their performance was just full of humour but still totally spot on - really entertaining. They also served as the backing band for Nick Lowe, who was on superb form. Nick treated us to a great selection of his songs, from old to new. At 70 he is still in great shape and voice, sounding just superb. Two encores, the last one being a solo version of Elvis Costello's 'Alison' when you could have heard a pin drop - breathtaking stuff. One of the best gigs I've seen in ages, if you get chance to see them on this tour then you won't be disappointed. ( Apologies for the crappy photos!)
